8 Audrey’s afternoon appointments didn’t go well. She had three scheduled. The first client became agitated by the scent of roses. Instead of moving forward with the therapy, they backtracked to previously learned behaviors to intercept his rising annoyance. Her second session ended early when the patient demanded the presence of his lawyer before he would answer any of her questions. The final appointment finished sourly with the patient saying what she believed Dr. Ellis wanted to hear, then mumbled exact details on how she would kill the next person who touched her. Audrey stood in her office doorway and watched the guard lead the patient back to her room. She returned to her desk to make her notes and prepare for the next day.
