NATHAN
His workload is already taking a massive impact on his life. Then there's his father and grandfather who will stop at nothing to see him married,
His phone rings, and he curses as he sees his grandfather's name flashing on the screen
“Good day grandpa,” I reluctantly say
"I'm at the door" I can already sense trouble
"Come in" I tell him and he enters
“Listen here Nathan, no one will beg to take your inheritance and no one will force you to do anything you would rather not do. But look, I will give my legacy to your brother if you do not get married this month, that I promise you. I gave you six months to get married, but you broke up with Stephanie instead” I sigh.
There is something that people don't understand.
“Grandpa Steph broke up with me,” I tell him, though I know he's still going to blame me.
“Because you forced her to!” he puts the phone away from his ears.
“Okay, that's not why I called. You have to meet your fiancée tomorrow for lunch, don't be late. I'll send you the details” he says like it's the most normal thing in the world.
Who the f**k gets a fiancée without knowing.
“What do you mean my fiancée last time I checked I'm very much single and enjoying my bachelor life” he quizzes his grandfather who is not even fazed by his horrified reaction.
“Oh enjoy it while it lasts,”
“We got a wife for you since you couldn't, we always have to do everything for. Don't worry, she's desperate for safety, so she has no problem with marrying you at all,” I frown.
“Desperate?”
“You see, her father angered some people in our world, they're threatening her life, her bother's and her mother's. And turns out the people respect us well enough, so they wouldn't harm my grandson's wife” I nod
“I'll be there” I tell him
He nods and walks out. My life is a joke.
“Sir your one o'clock meetings with the directors is about to start” Judy says
It never ends for me hey.
“That new girl, did she take uncle Davidson's office?” she nods.
“I can't go to that meeting, let her go,” I tell Judy and proceed to my laptop.
“Okay, I'll inform her” she turns to leave,
“Wait I'll go” I grab the file from her and walk to her office, but my mood certainly degrades when I find it purple and pink! I breathe in and out before ranting.
“What the hell is going on here!?” I think I startled her because she bounced up looking very frightened,
“Don't you know how to knock?” She adjusted to sleeping back on her purple couch.
“Little Miss, I asked you a question!” I snapped at her
“Goodness gracious! I decorated my office, to my liking, is that a crime?” She shouts back.
Is it wrong if I say I like it when she's feisty
“Didn't you hear what I said? No colors!” I shout at the top of my voice, but she folds her hands unfazed by my anger
“You talked, I listened. I never said I'd act on your ridiculous rules. I want my office like this.” I keep quiet, which is very foreign because I always have something to say.
“Do you have a problem with it?” She questions me,
“Yes, I do.” I clenched my jaws.
“You'll learn to leave it” she smirked at me. This stupid girl is doing this on purpose.
“The whole building can hear you guys?” just appeared and said.
“He started it!” she exclaims and strolls out.
I'm sitting opposite to her, she's eating Chinese food, and I was having the salad. The way she's devouring her meal makes me want to taste what she's having, but I have to eat healthy, so I just watch her.
“Is your food good?” She looks at me, and I see her mouth moving, but I can't make up a word of what she said.
“Yes” if what she said didn't inquire a yes, then I'm finished!
“But you haven't touched it,” she says.
“I'm not actually hungry” she nods.
By the time the directors arrived, she gas two plates of whatever she was eating.
“That's okay Mr. Miller, we'll do it that way” I say to the old man
“No we won't”
“Don't be dramatic right now!” I hiss
“I'm not” she shrugged.
“Construction World is and will always be a thriving company that has been going for years, from this price, we'll get profit yes but the kind of profit which is suitable for Construction World given the kind of quality we give so No we're not going to build with that price. It's either you use these price or look elsewhere and also see if they can build that mall in that period of time” they all looked at her amused.
And I just stare at her, fascinated and amused by the way she carries herself in a business transaction, how she makes multiple skilled men eat in the palm of her hand.
“Wow! Gentlemen, I think she has a point. Construction World is the only company we can work hand in hand with, without them, we're doomed.” I smile inwardly,
“She's better than Stephanie. You chose well. When are you proposing to her?” she looks at me baffled, and I do the same.
“There is nothing going on between us, we're just colleges”
“Don't lie to us young man we're old enough, we see a relationship when we look at one” they all laughed except us.
We're definitely not dating, but we can't convince them otherwise.
“Let us get together firsthand discuss the funds, then we'll get back to you” we all shake hands and they leave.
“So was I dramatic enough for you” see asks me.
“I'm not going to praise you for doing your job” I say sternly.
“It's called motivating your workers, but I know you're too proud to admit that I did well. And seriously, we have to improve the finance department. Things are going south, we need to stop them from even looking that direction.” I did.
“Walk next to me! Walk next to me!” I pull her close to me, and she fights being in my embrace.
And wait for the mystery of fate, why did I have to meet Steph here today? The Heavens are really not in my favor
“Nathaniel.” Stephanie hugs me, I don't hug her back, but I keep my little woman just besides me,
“It's so good to see you. How are you” she says, beaming with happiness?
“I'm fine” I reply.
“Who is she?” she looks at…
Wait, I don't know her name.
“My girlfriend, babe meet Steph, my ex-girlfriend” she frowns but smiles after a while.
“Since when?” my eyes widen
“About two months now” I feel my temperature rising, lying is certainly not a cool thing
“What's her name?” Now I wish the earth would open up and swallow me,
“her name?” That I don't know, I pinched her slightly, but it seems she had no intentions of helping me.
“Yes baby my name” she says now she's happy presently that I don't know her name at a time like this,
“Argh her name isn't necessary because I call her my flower” I bluntly lie to Steph.
“But you hate flowers” I clear my throat.
“I love them now, I'd really love to catch up with you, but we need to go to the office. We're rushing so if you don't mind”
“okay sure bye.” she waves, and we make out our holding hands.
I'm quite surprised and happy my not so friendly COO and fake girlfriend cooperated.
“Don't think I'm enjoying holding hands with you, I'm saving your ass from being embarrassed.” I chuckle,
“I know that. I also don't want to hold your hand”.
“I'm glad we have an understanding”
“Why did you say I'm your girlfriend?” there she goes again with her never-ending questions.
“I wanted to see her hurt, it was good” I smirk when I remember the look in her face.
“Why? She was hurt. And she looked at you with soft eyes, from my opinion she still loves you” I rolled my eyes…
“Yeah right”
“Why do you want to hurt her?”
“it's none of your business, okay? Just stay out of it. You helped me. It's cool I appreciate that, but don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong ” I focus on the road.
“You know, I loved the part where you didn't know my name. God must just keep me alive to see you sweating like that. Ungrateful jerk!” she curses at me and slams my car door very hard as soon we reach the office.
