“Get up quickly, Chris. Lassiel wants to come in and take a look. I’ll tidy up the table first, and you can clean up after you get up. Throw your socks to the back of the house. If Lassiel smells anything, I won’t spare you,” Ron said, fussing over Chris while hurriedly throwing some unsightly things into the trash.
“Do I need to avoid this? I’ve almost recovered, and you said I could leave here in a few days. Should I leave now?” Chris asked, putting aside his joking demeanor upon hearing that someone else was coming.
“No need. Lassiel already knows you’re here with me. Perhaps she might need Lassiel’s help for you to leave Lance,” Ron explained, finally seeing the room in a more orderly state. He opened the door and made a very polite gesture to invite Lassiel in.
Although Ron had been at the Mage Guild for over three months, this was the first time Lassiel had visited his room and laboratory. After a cursory glance at the strange laboratory, she saw Chris standing there, looking awkward. She smiled at Chris and greeted him.
Standing before the elegantly poised Lassiel, Chris looked at his shabby clothes and worn-out armor, feeling like a country bumpkin. He tried to stand in what he thought was the most proper posture and performed a knight’s salute. “Noble and beautiful Miss Mage, please forgive my current unsightly appearance. I cannot stand before you in the splendid manner of a knight. Nevertheless, I am honored to meet you. You may call me Chris.”
“I am Lassiel, a mid-level mage at the Mage Guild of Lance,” Lassiel maintained her smile. “I may have disturbed you by coming here, but I am genuinely interested in Ron’s laboratory. I just came to take a look. Perhaps it will be helpful for my magical practice.”
The power of a beautiful woman was truly undeniable. Even Chris, who had never lost a verbal sparring match with Ron, was now becoming tongue-tied. “How could it be a disturbance? Everything here has become noble because of your arrival. Ron! Look at you still standing there daydreaming. Hurry up and show Miss Lassiel your inexplicable things!”
After carefully examining Ron’s magical items that were beyond the scope of magic, Lassiel began to fiddle with the crystal ornament. “I don’t think we have truly understood you, Ron. You have great magical potential. If you persevere, you will become an extraordinary mage.”
“I don’t care about becoming someone in the future, Lassiel. Let’s talk about Chris’s situation, shall we? I heard that you will be traveling with Master Lake the day after tomorrow. Can you help take Chris out of Lance? The city’s defense forces are searching for him on behalf of the Radiant Knights,” Ron explained Chris’s identity and his enmity with the Radiant Knights to Lassiel.
“That can be arranged. The day after tomorrow, you can accompany us as our escort out of the city,” Lassiel said to Chris. “I will provide you with a set of heavy armor, and the face shield will prevent others from recognizing you.”
After inquiring through Ron, it was confirmed that Chris’s escaped companions had left Lance. With Chris’s current strength, it was impossible for him to rescue them from the Radiant Knights. Therefore, for now, it was best for Chris to safely leave Lance.
“Ron, let’s go see Lake now and also discuss Chris’s situation with him. After all, we need his approval for such matters,” Lassiel said.
When they met Master Lake, he was entertaining a guest. The guest was sitting face to face with the Master, and upon seeing Lassiel and Ron enter, he did not stand up. He just glanced at them and nodded slightly. A dignified air emanated from him. After the Master’s introduction, Ron learned that the guest was Kur, the commander of the Imperial Guard of Emperor Adist II of the Leld Empire. His status was not to be underestimated. He had come to escort Master Lake.
After exchanging greetings with Kur, Lassiel handed the wand that Ron had made, which was neither here nor there, to the Master. “Lake, I think you probably don’t know about your apprentice’s current abilities. Take a look at this wand. It’s Ron’s creation. I believe Ron has already begun to grasp the power of magic.”
Over the past few days, Ron had been improving his wand. He had used metal wire to create a simple step-up transformer. The energy crystal in the wand now stored high-voltage energy through the transformer. Ron had replaced the two batteries inside the wand with a charged small crystal, which could emit pulses. Since Ron could already emit energy himself, he didn’t need the pulse emission device, but he kept it for emergencies when he couldn’t meditate and needed to instantly cast a spell.
Lake touched the large crystal at the top of the wand, feeling the charged energy inside. “A very strange electrical power. It’s very powerful and constantly fluctuating, unlike any power I’ve seen before.”
“Natural lightning is direct current, but the energy stored in this crystal is alternating current, so it’s bound to fluctuate,” Ron thought to himself, but he didn’t dare to say it out loud, in case the Master asked him to explain.
