Chapter 6 Resonance

1060 Words
The master gestured for Ron to sit across from him. “Magic elements are intangible yet real. You cannot see their existence, but you can feel it. You can even consider them as living entities. If you can resonate with them, it means you have found the path of meditation. Meditation is a process of cultivating the mind. Without achieving a certain state of mind, success is unattainable. Practice meditation diligently these days. Once you can feel the magic within you, you will be ready to learn the Fireball spell. If you have any questions during this time, come find me. Return to your room and practice. I need to prepare for the journey in ten days.” The master’s understanding and approach to magic were not entirely the same as Lazel’s, but in just a few words, Ron gained a deeper understanding. After Ron left, Master Lake slowly rose from his seat, his cloudy eyes beginning to brighten. He murmured to himself, “Three dukes simultaneously seeking independence. It seems that the continent’s turmoil is about to begin again.” He turned and disappeared into his room. After wandering around the guild, Ron returned to his room. Chris, alert, picked up his sword, but upon seeing it was only Ron, he lowered it. Ron opened a box he was carrying and took out some bread and a bottle of ale, offering it to Chris. “Can you satisfy my curiosity and tell me why they are looking for you?” After eating and drinking, Chris explained, “I am the vice leader of the Iron Blood Mercenaries. Our group offended Lord O’Fein of the Radiant Knights due to a mission. As a result, they used absolute force to storm our headquarters and capture our leader, Nis, to the city of Lance. I and seven other strong members of the Iron Blood Mercenaries attempted to rescue Nis, but we failed and suffered heavy losses. After dispersing, I escaped here. You know the rest.” “I sympathize with your unfortunate situation. However, you can rest assured that I will not hand you over to them. If you trust me, you can stay here for a few more days. Now, I need to start working,” Ron said. He then used a hand-cranked generator to charge several larger crystals and began to tinker with the strange “magic array” on the desk that had puzzled Chris. Ron’s mind was constantly pondering new ideas. “The essence of magic elements and light must have a significant difference. To study the difference between the crystals and the crystals I have studied before, I must cut the crystals. Lazel said that no force can cut a crystal smoothly, unless it is divine. If this simple laser emitter can resonate magic elements like light, and ordinary light can be amplified and resonated into a laser, what will happen with magic elements through amplification and resonance? At the very least, it should be able to cut the crystal, right?” Ron’s mind was filled with new thoughts. “In theory, it should work. At least these crystals and gems can be used as a medium for magic elements, not just light.” After turning off the switch, Ron removed the “wand” from his waist, removed the charged crystal from the wand, and then connected the two metal wires from the pulse device inside the wand to the fire crystal at the end of the device. He pressed the switch. The fire crystal emitted a magical wave, erupting and passing through the ruby, emitting a faint red light directly onto the crystal placed diagonally in front. This crystal enhanced the fire light and reflected it to the opposite crystal, creating a resonance. As the resonance intensified, the red light passing through the opposite crystal became stronger, eventually turning into a dazzling red light. With a “pop,” the red light pierced through the wall. “Success!” Ron’s heart was trembling. He picked up a clip and slowly approached the red light. The crystal was easily cut in half. Chris couldn’t believe his eyes. He hadn’t blinked once, watching Ron effortlessly cut a crystal in half using the “magic array” without any magic symbols. He was in disbelief. “My goodness! This young wizard can actually cut a crystal in half! What an incredible power! What a peculiar magic array!” His perception of Ron had completely changed. Initially, he saw Ron’s attire and thought of him as a mere apprentice, but now, Chris saw Ron as a magical genius. He even thought Ron was a grand wizard, not knowing that Ron couldn’t even cast a Fireball spell. After turning off the switch, Ron removed his “wand,” replaced it with a newly charged crystal, and then examined the two cut crystals. He thought to himself, “It’s too late today. I’ll study it tomorrow. I need to research quickly. Once I understand the principle of storing magic in crystals, I will be able to meditate and access my own magic.” Turning around, Ron saw Chris staring blankly at the two crystals in his hands. Ron smiled and tossed the crystals to him. “Feel free to look at them tonight. I’ll need them for research tomorrow.” He was in a particularly good mood and rummaged through the cabinet on the desk, pulling out a pack of cigarettes he had brought with him to this world. He lit one and took a puff, squinting his eyes. This was the most precious thing. Every puff meant one less. Seeing Chris staring at him as if in a daze, Ron said, “It’s late. Get some rest. You’re a patient. Take the bed.” He then found a blanket and lay down on the couch. Chris sat up straight. Ron had already helped him a lot, and he couldn’t take his bed. “Ron, you should sleep in your own bed. As a swordsman, I’m used to sleeping in any environment. I can’t take your bed.” Ron lay on the chair, blowing smoke rings. “No need. Just make do for tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll find you a more comfortable place to sleep.” Chris had nothing more to say. He lay down and soon fell into a deep sleep.
