Chapter Two Lilian stood there in shock as she never expected the wedding to take a turn to be hers. She hesitated and then said “What are you doing, Floyd?” The crowd stood in amusement and watched the great proposal. Lilian felt fear grip her as she looked at the crowd waiting for her to give an answer. She thought to herself ‘if she refused the proposal his reputation would be tarnished and if she agreed, it would be quite dangerous.” Torn between two decisions, she must immediately make her choice as Floyd was a few steps away from her waiting for an answer. “Yes, let's get married.” Lilian didn't know when the words left her lips. She was happy but felt miserable too. She had a one-night stand with Floyd. Now she was getting married to him, despite the fact that she was never the supposed bride. They continued the ceremony with Lilian at the altar looking deep into Floyd's eyes with uncertainty. She couldn't stop herself from thinking of why he decided to do such a thing and knew his reputation was at stake. The priest quietly asked Lilian “What's your name?” “Lilian” she responded with a very soft tone. “Lilian, do you take this man to be your lawful-wedded husband?” Lilian took a pause as her mind reeled for a moment. “What was she getting herself into?” Floyd walked closer to her as he whispered into her ears, “I am waiting.” She immediately looked at the priest and said “Yes I do.” They were both pronounced husband and wife and were asked to seal it with a kiss. Floyd gave Lilian a kiss that made her remember the events of last night. It sent signals all over her body. She didn't know him, but he was romantic enough to keep her for a lifetime. Just when they thought the wedding was over, Cindy went to the wedding venue in her flamboyant wedding dress. She really couldn't understand why a stranger was holding hands with Floyd by the altar instead of her. “What's going on here?” Cindy shouted with a tone blazing with anger. Everyone in the hall went still as they heard her speak. No one really had the perfect words to say to her. “Poor thing!” A woman among the crowd murmured. “Alright, I guess I am late. Can we now conduct the wedding now that I have arrived?” Cindy gestures to the priest at the altar as she speaks to him. “The wedding has been conducted, Mr Floyd is now married to his chosen wife, Mrs Lilian Smith. Lilian could feel her heart drop to her stomach, as she saw the rage in Cindy's eyes. “Floyd, you did what?” Cindy was off balance. Floyd stood there feeling blameless and less concerned as she continued ranting and creating a show for the crowd and press that were at the wedding. “You both would pay dearly for this, I swear.” She cussed as she gestured her finger towards Floyd and Lilian. Lilian could feel a sense of regret gush all over her as she saw how paranoid Cindy was. No one would ever want an event such as this at their dream wedding, so she could totally understand. Floyd realized the look on Lilian's face, it was obvious she was sad about the whole display. He walked forward and asked “Where is the security? Kindly walk this young lady out of the hall, she is becoming a nuisance.” “Floyd, you are definitely going to regret this. What you have just cost me, you both would obviously pay for this.” Cindy uttered as the security held her and moved her out of the hall. Floyd waited till she was out of sight as he echoed “Nothing has happened here, let's go to eat, drink and be merry.” He stretched forth his hand towards Lilian as they entered into the reception with guests mingling and laughing. Lilian felt like she was still caught up with the events with Cindy, still trying to process all that had happened on the day. Floyd led her to the head table, where they were greeted by his family and friends. Lilian could see the serious look on his mother's face like she wasn't happy and Floyd didn't seem to notice, or maybe he just didn't care. As they were done greeting, they went to sit down to eat. Lilian couldn't help but feel like she was living in a dream. She had just married a stranger who wasn't meant to be her husband, and now she was sitting at a reception with his family and friends like everything was fine. Floyd soon realized how overwhelmed she was. He smiled and squeezed her hand. "I understand. It's a lot to take in. You will be fine." Lilian found his words comforting and as the reception continued, she began to feel more at ease within herself. She even managed to laugh and joke with Floyd's friends, who sat a bit closer to them. But just as things were starting to feel normal, Lilian saw a figure standing at the edge of the room. It was a woman and no one other than Cindy. She found her way back to the wedding. Lilian's heart began to race in fear of realizing it was Cindy and no one else seemed to notice she was there except her and that made her more scared. Cindy was standing hidden close to the doorway, her eyes fixed on Lilian with a look of pure hatred. She called an usher and asked that she give a message to Lilian when she was offered a drink. Lilian's heart was racing as she looked around, trying to see what was happening. She felt Cindy was up to something and no one was to be trusted. The usher approached Lilian with the letter and Lilian excused herself to open it. "You'll never be happy." She read the message and her eyes met with Cindy's, and she knew that this was just the beginning.
