A Night's Stand

Chapter4

“What was all that ruckus outside Hope?” Linda asked curiously. She had been peeping from the window.

“Mel, you won’t believe it if I tell you my first day at work was the most hectic day ever in my life. In fact, today has to be the worst day of my life,” Hope let out while trying to control her tears.

“What happened my love?” Linda asked, as she sat Hope down and wiped off her tears.

Hope then narrated how Harry left the hotel before she even woke up and how she discovered that Harry is the CEO of Express.. She also tells Linda about how Eugene, the company’s managing director nearly r***d her in his car.

“That’s just too much, you have to report him,” Linda insisted.

“Report him to who? when he and Harry are basically cut from the same cloth.”

“There has to be something you could do Hope, you can’t let Eugene get away with what he did.”

“Linda that’s enough. I don’t want to talk about it anymore, I just want to have my bath and go to bed to prepare for the next day.

Linda couldn’t look for any other way to convince Hope to report Eugene so all she could do was to offer to make her dinner.

“Good morning,” Hope greeted Yolanda inside the elevator. “How are you doing, girl?” Yolanda asked.

“Oh, I’m doing well. Sorry to bother but can you tell me about Eugene, our manager?”

“Girl! You know how I told you about how Mr. Tyson is a flirt? Eugene is worse, don’t tell anyone but he was on probation last three months for sexually harassing one of our female staff.” Yolanda said.

Just as Yolanda was about to explain in detail, the elevator opens and to their greatest surprise, it was Eugene at the other side of the door.

“Good morning sir,” Yolanda greeted.

“Aren’t you going to greet me, Hope?” Eugene asked Hope with a wicked smile on his face.

“Good morning. Please can you step aside for me, I need to get to my desk,” Hope said to Eugene while avoiding eye contact. He was standing in front of her basically sparing her enough space for comfort. Yolanda noticed the awkward chemistry going on between the both of them but acted like she didn’t see anything.

Eugene eventually moved away and let Hope pass. Hope told Yolanda goodbye and that they’ll talk later.

“Good morning boss,” Hope said to Harry as she got into his office. “How are you doing, Hope? It seems like you left the office as soon as the time for closure reached.” Harry said.

“Yeah, I did, any problem with that sir?”

“Of course not Hope. I saw the rain and I wanted to offer to take you home,” he said to her with a smile.

“I wished he offered that sooner. At least if he did, I wouldn’t have gotten into the deranged Eugene’s car,” Hope said to herself.

“I don’t need you to take me home sir. I thought we had already agreed on keeping our relationship as official as possible, and I don’t think taking me home would sound official,” Hope let out.

Harry then realized that Hope had a point and that wouldn’t be very official of them. “Yeah I'm sorry my bad,” he said to her.

Hope began to tell him his schedule for the week. Just as they were talking Eugene walked into the office and asked Hope to leave.

“What could Eugene possibly want to tell Harry?” Hope thought to herself just as she walked out of the office. She met Yolanda in the hallway and went to ask her to continue their conversation in the elevator.

It turns out that Eugene had assaulted a staff but the company ended up firing the girl instead of him. They just gave him a month’s probation.

“That’s so sad Yolanda.”

“Tell me about it. Imagine how we all felt for the girl after she got fired. Women are really at the receiving end,” Yolanda said while taking an excuse to go continue her work.

A few minutes later, Eugene came out of the office with Harry following behind him.

“Hope, see me,” Harry called out using his hands to signal her to come. As Hope stood up to go to the office, she and Eugene passed each other and gave themselves the stink eye.

“You wanted to see me, boss?” Hope asked.

“Yes. Now tell me what your relationship with Eugene is,” Harry asked looking so sternly.

“What could Eugene have told Harry now?” Hope asked herself

“I don’t understand the question, sir”

“I’m asking because he just came into my office to tell me to fire you for no reason, and I'm just trying to understand what made him want you gone.”

Now Hope was surprised as to how low Eugene could go just because she didn’t agree to sleep with him. At that point Hope was contemplating resigning from the job because of all the drama that came with it, starting with the whole s*x thing with Harry,without knowing he was her boss and now fighting against harassment from the company’s manager who the company apparently supports.

“Hope? Did you hear my question?”

“Oh sorry sir, the thing is I don’t know what I did to him. Ever since he saw me yesterday he’s been giving me the stink eye.” Hope mentioned.

Before Hope was able to say anything else, the two began to hear loud noises from the reception.

“What could that possibly be?” Harry asked Hope as if they were not in the same place.

They both left the office to go and check the reception. Getting there they met the police, Yolanda, and some other workers arguing with the police.

Harry and Hope then went to meet the police to ask what the problem was.

“Afternoon officer. May I ask what the cause of this disturbance is?” Harry said to the officers.

“We are here for the arrest of a staff of yours sir,” One of the officers replied.

“And who is that?” Harry asked.

“Eugene Micah sir.”
