Hayley wore a red A-line, button, Tea-length dress she paired with nude coloured cut-out heels and a matching mini bag. She had her hair in a low bun and the silver dangles she wore, swung beautifully when she walked to the corner where the table she had reserved for two was. She was a wreck of nerves, so she chose the red outfit and held her hair up in a bun as she always felt more confident when she worn red clothes and held her hair in a bun.
Jared had helped the company successfully round off the project the government had awarded them. Being out of options on how to talk to him, she used the opportunity to invite him to a ’celebratory’ dinner. If she was going to attempt making any progress tonight, she needed all the confidence she could get to be able to talk to him.
Sitting at the table close to the floor-to-ceiling glass window on the second floor of a posh restaurant that gave a full view of the city, she looked outside trying to calm her nerves.
It was evening, the whole city was so beautiful and alive bustling with life as though the sun was still high in the sky. It gave a glow that could only be seen in the night but she didn't seem to find it entertaining as she kept on thinking of how best to talk to Jared about who she was and what him being her mate meant.
She found herself wishing that she was running through the woods surrounding herself with nature and his scent that always seemed to calm her down.
”Hello?” Hayley spoke when her phone buzzed silently
”Have you looked into it?” She asked. When Tyler made mention of what her mate usually read, she had gotten curious as to how what he read was going to help make things easier for her and had gotten one of the warriors she sent to guard him to look into it.
”Yes alpha”
”What has he been reading about?”
”Mythical creatures alpha”
”Okay, just make sure...” she was about saying something when she smelt Jared and cut the call as she didn't want him to think she was some sort of p*****t who was monitoring him.
Hayley watched Jared walk to the receptionist and heard him ask for the reservation she made under her name thanks to her heightened hearing and saw the receptionist point him in the right direction while trying to flirt with him at the same time and she was suddenly glad he was into men. Hayley had to admit, her mate was gorgeous.
”She is so clueless. If only she knows that he isn't even noticing all she's doing” Hayley found herself saying aloud.
Watching their little exchange, Hayley considered what the warrior had just told her over the phone and decided to be straightforward with him since he had been reading and researching about mythical creatures for a long time, it means a part of him believes that they exist.
”Ms. Taakani” Jared greeted before sitting down
”Mate” Lucy purred immediately Jared spoke
”You finally speak for the first time in a long time, thanks for taking your sweet time. We could have lost our pack you know” Hayley said to her wolf
”Good evening Mr. Black” Hayley greeted Jared.
”Mate, mark him”
”Lucy, I don't wanna deal with you right now before our mate begins to think we are mad,” Lucy said trying to shut her wolf off at the back of her mind quite pleased to hear her speak again.
”Hmmnp. No mate, no Lucy”
”Silly wolf,” Hayley said to her wolf smiling
”It’s quite a private dinner” Jared said
”I’m afraid so, I hope you don't feel uncomfortable about it?”
”Sincerely I do. I was thinking it was going to be team dinner.”
”Hahahaha” Hayley laughed surprising Jared ”You are quite outspoken aren't you?”
”I guess so”
”It’s fine, thanks to you, we were able to smoothly finish off a huge project so I wanted to thank you specially for that. It was quite a tricky project”
”I guess you can say that”
”Let's order, shall we?”
”Sure”
”What are your hobbies? That's if you don't mind answering” Hayley asked halfway through the meal
”Reading. I frequent the library a lot”
”How do you manage?”
”Manage?”
”With work and all that?”
”It’s already a part of my life, so I don't think twice about it”
”Ohh. Any specific area of interest or you just read randomly?”
”Myths”
”I’m lost”
”I enjoy reading books that have to do with mythical creatures to be exact and a little bit of history.”
”Not many people are interested in those though since they are thought not to exist.”
”How did you become interested in them?”
”I read this book about them while I was in college and since then, it stuck”
”Do you believe the creatures are real?” Hayley asked testing the waters
”Yes, but I have my doubts” Jared answered after some minutes
”I happen to be interested in those too. Which of them do you have the most interest in?” Hayley asked taking a sip of her wine.
”Werewolves”
”Hmmm, what do you think of them?” Hayley asked not being able to take her eyes away from him as she engaged him in a conversation. He had dressed quite casually for someone who had a dinner ’date’ with his boss but with his height and face that looked like that of a celebrity, he managed to make his dressing look formal.
When he spoke, she loved the way his black orbs danced as though they were trying to give more meaning to what he was saying while his face had thousands of expressions that had her spellbound that she just wanted him to keep talking.
Lucy was doing her own thing acting like she never left. Since Hayley had told her not to make them look like they are crazy in front of their mate, she resorted to conjuring up images of them and their mate that had Hayley flushing red. Gratefully, her food was a bit spicy. She hoped Jared would probably think she looked that way because of the food. With Lucy acting crazy, Hayley had to make conscious effort to pay attention to him and disregard her wolf when he started talking about his interest in werewolves.
”I think their lives are too easy” Hayley who was happy to hear him say he was most interested in werewolves suddenly had a bad feeling.
”If the myths about them are true, then they would be the creatures I hate the most. Their lives are pretty much planned out and the world didn't just work that way. They lack ambitions and don't have to work hard for anything. The society and life, in general, is much messier and complicated than that.
What else would a person want when from a young age they already know their place in life and what the future is going to look like. Like who wouldn't give anything to know what the future would look like? Things like whom one would take orders from and whom one would give orders to? Werewolves didn't have to date different people to find the person they want to spend the rest of their lives with, unlike humans who have to and might still end up breaking up after finding them. For a young alpha, he doesn't need to struggle hard to find his place in the pack unlike in the real world where people worked for what they want. Even those born into rich families still work hard to keep what they have.
For crying out loud, even an abusive alpha still gets to keep his position since he can keep his pack under control as they cannot defy him; everyone cowers at an alpha's command. Betas know it's only the alpha above them while humans cannot possibly count the number of people above them, the ladder is too long to climb”. Hayley watched in awe as Jared listed out the things he didn't like in werewolves speechless.
”I’m so sorry, I seem to have bored you with my long talk” Jared apologized when he saw the look on Hayley’s face.
”Not exactly, I wanna hear everything single thing that goes on in your mind. Everything you think about werewolves tops the list.”
”I don't think I have any order thing to say Ms. Taakani I suddenly started rattling off when you asked because no one has ever asked me about it”.
”What if some of what you said isn't true? Especially the part where you said they didn't work hard for anything and a young alpha, doesn't need to struggle hard to find his place in the pack. I think they have their share of problems”
”Hahaha, unless you have proof” Jared laughed
”Hmmm, do you really want proof?”
”Yes”
”Do you mind going for a ride with me?”
”Probably”
”Hahaha” Hayley laughed at how he said what was actually on his mind without minding
”Let’s go somewhere I have proof to show you there about something I found out. Werewolves might actually be in existence. And, they are not as horrible as you think they are.”
Since she had invited him over to talk about what she was, she wanted to get over and done with it.
