The drive home was a quiet one with the song coming out from the stereo the only thing that helped warm the atmosphere.
Hayley sat in silence at the back seat of the black Maybach Exelero looking bothered as she looked out of her windows that she had turned down into the seemingly unending rows of trees. The cold wind hit her face, sending her well-groomed hair flying, but helped to clear her mind a bit.
Tyler knew something was on her mind but choose to stay silent. There were times people really want to get their thoughts together and sort their problems themselves and Hayley was always like that.
Hayley was a stubborn person who hated people pitying her or sticking their heads into her personal problems. She always wanted to solve her problems herself but she knew her limits too. She knew when things were out of control and she needed help.
Tyler knows this about her too so he kept quiet. Sticking his head uninvited could earn him a punch and he needed to be in good condition to take care of his mate and perform his duties as beta.
Immediately they came back to the packhouse, Hayley sent out orders through the pack’s mind link that she didn't want to be disturbed. Leaving things in the hands of her beta to handle, she went straight to her living quarters. The pack owned a construction company so they lived in quite luxurious houses.
Hayley lay on her queen size comfortable bed that usually brought sleep to her eyes each time her head hit the pillow forcing herself to sleep but couldn't. After tossing and turning for 45 minutes without success, she stood and went to her bar to get a bottle of her good old friend __ Vodka. She wanted to be drowned in it not that it would her anyway.
Her mind kept wandering back to when he walked into the conference room. The young man with black hair that looked like it was well taken care of than that of a woman, was quite tall as he was a good 6.2 inches tall, he wasn't muscular neither was he lanky. He looked like he exercised a little just to keep himself that way. When he was checking her out, his black orbs which looked like they held a lot of secrets drew her in, as it seemed they could see right through her soul. The more she didn't want to recall the scene, the more it kept coming back to her.
Through the meeting, it took a lot of self-restraint for her to sit still and not go over to be in his arms. She had been so angry when he walked in that she wasn't paying attention to her surrounding so she didn't pay attention to the scent that got her wolf jumping in circles. But when she did, she nearly went crazy. The scent was nothing out of the ordinary but it seemed to be calling out to her. He smelt of woods, sweat, and something spicy that she was yet to place a name on. The smell of woods calmed her down immediately that she began calling out to him to start the presentation but his spicy smell drove her insane. He was perfect but she wouldn't just have it. He was human.
Lucy her wolf did not want to speak to her and she was tired of trying to make her see reasons why they could not accept him. He was human, he would get hurt. The thought of him getting hurt got her apprehensive. Raising the bottle of vodka to her lips, she drank directly from it not bothering with glass as she tried to calm her nerves down. She would stay away from him and also made a mental note to send people to protect him from the sides.
”What is going on?” she thought
”What is the moon goddess up to?”
”Why did he have to be human?”
She needed a strong mate who was going to help her shoulder responsibilities, not a weak human. Many questions were just swirling around her mind and her emotions were a wreck.
She would not deny the fact that she was attracted to him, he was her mate after all. But he was human, they would not accept him.
She already had a lot of things to deal with because she was a female alpha and she didn't want to add dealing with a human mate to the list. She would protect him and one effective way of doing that was staying away from him she decided and Lucy whined once more in her head.

Jared sat in a quiet corner in a bar downtown drinking, it was well past working hours but today he didn't seem to mind. Women kept giving him inviting smiles but it didn't trip him as he was not into women but somehow, from time to time images of his boss flashed in his mind.
Ever since he walked out of the conference room as the new manager of the marketing team, he felt hollow it was as though he just missed something and it was getting on his nerves.
”I am now the new manager and it's great news” he kept telling himself in an attempt to chase the gloom that seemed to hover over him as he chugged down half of the whiskey in front of him. It made him sick, he knew he was going to have a terrible hangover the next day, but he preferred it to the hollow he was feeling. He just understood why despite knowing how bad a hangover can be, people still chose to get drunk and live in the moment.
He didn't know how long he sat there drinking, but he saw Seth pulled him up and drag him out of the bar.
”Waoh! It's Seth” he said drunk and smiled like an innocent child that was caught in a bad act.
”I definitely didn't take more than one bottle”
”Ahhhn! It was in celebration I am now the new manager of the marketing team” Jared continued to a surprised Seth who quickly dismissed what he was saying as drunk talking as he felt Jared wouldn't celebrate something as important as that without inviting him.
”Yes you definitely didn't drink more than one bottle yet you reek of alcohol and you can barely walk straight. So much for someone with high alcohol holding capacity” He answered instead.
”It’s called high alcohol tolerance”
”Okay” Seth answered rolling his eyes.
”I took only one bottle”
”I know you did”
”I’m serious”
”I believe you”
”You don't sound like you do”
”I definitely do”
”Hmmm” Jared pouted and then glared at him.
”I am not going home” He continued when they were already in front of his door.
”Fine fine this is the door of the bar, go back and continue drinking” Seth said opening the door and pushing him inside the house.
