Tyler sat on the couch in the small but cozy and tastefully furnished house his parents owned cuddling his mate. His eyes were full of so much love as he watched his parents entertain themselves with the bundle in their arms.
”Isn't my darling grandson so cute?” His mother said to her husband giggling like a child.
”Of course he is, whose grandson is he? look at those eyes and see the way his nose is positioned, they look just like mine. He will grow into a fine young man. You know you married a man with great gene right?”
”Or more like I took pity on you”
”Hey pumpkin,” Tyler's mother said to her grandson who seemed to entertain himself with her long brown hair.
”Listen don't turn out to be like your grandfather, or else you won't be popular among women”
”Hey mum what are you saying to my child he’s too young to hear that” Tyler chipped in
”Oh shut up (she rolled her eyes) I was only telling the truth, I practically saved your father. Besides, I raised you and you turned out just fine.”
”Sure, sure but don't start talking to my son about ladies”
”Look your son is a grown man now. He is even teaching his mother what and what not to say to his son” His mother said once more to her husband trying to keep a serious face but ended up making everyone laugh.
Looking at the mate that fit perfectly into his arms, and ’his bundle of joy’ that busied himself with his mother's hair, Tyler felt so satisfied.
Jayden was just like him when he was much younger, he loved his mother's hair too and enjoyed playing with it. His mother had once gotten a trim and he cried himself to sleep refusing to eat as though he had lost his favorite toy. When it grew back, his mother never cut it again and always wore it long so her hair was reaching just beneath her waist.
When Sylvie was pregnant with Jayden, he hated himself and promised not to get her pregnant again especially during the fight with the rogues.
Werewolves usually had their pups at 7 months but since werewolves were still half-human, there were possibilities that the pup could be had late. Jayden had stayed extra 3 months in the womb and during those extra months, it wasn't easy for either him or Sylvie.
During the fight, he cursed himself for bringing her back from his parents’ place as he was so scared for her life that it got him distracted a few times which earned him injures. He knew Sylvie felt his pain as he also felt her anxiety so tried to get his act together (the mating bond made mates capable of feeling each other's strong emotions). When the fight ended, before going to report to the alpha, he went looking for her and trapped her in a bone-crushing hug as far as her bump could let them, letting her know he was okay so she could calm down and then took her to their living quarters to settle her into bed before leaving for the alpha’s office but not without assigning someone to watch her.
After his talk with the alpha, that same night, she entered labour. It wasn't an easy birth for Sylvie as it was her first issue. She was in labour for 3 days. Hayley had even entered the birthing room on the second day to absorb some of her pain which helped to lessen her screaming that day. When he stopped hearing his mate’s scream on the third day, he had become agitated thinking something went wrong and was about badging into the birthing room when he heard Jayden’s cry for the first time and knew his son had been born. He had refused to be present while she birthed their pup. As he could already feel her pain, and he didn't trust himself to be able to watch it too.
Looking towards the door of the birthing room that separated him from his mate, he saw Raina walk towards him, holding a bundle in her arms which she carefully placed in his arms. When he held him for the first time and the pup smiled at him, he suddenly shivered rooted to the spot as he seemed to enter a dream-like state. Raina's voice calling out to him telling him his mate wanted to see him brought him back to his senses. He walked into the room with their son in his arms and placed a kiss on her forehead when she demanded to hold him in her arms. Looking at how his mate smiled down at their pup, he suddenly experienced a miracle and the most beautiful of them all. Everything seemed to make sense and he realized that it was worth the wait. All the hesitations he had flew out of the window and he felt that a second child wouldn't be so bad.
Suddenly, the thoughts of Hayley missing out on the happiness he felt, got him feeling guilty and distracted as he didn't realize his mate was calling him.
”Mother” Sylvie called
”Your son seems to be distracted a lot lately. Ever since I had Jayden, he keeps zoning out like this from time to time that you have to tap him to get his attention. I have asked over and over again to know what the problem is but he always says it's nothing. Help me talk to him, perhaps there is something am not getting right, I know things have been a little different since we had Jayden but we could always talk things over right?”
”Hmm, Son? would you mind telling me what the problem is?” Tyler's father asked
”It’s nothing dad”
”You say it's nothing and yet you get distracted frequently. Is there something you think you should tell us?” his mother chipped in.
”Nothing mum”
”Young man?” Tyler's father called out his tone a notch higher sounding like the beta he was.
”Dad there's nothing wrong. I love my family as it is and want nothing less”
”Then what's wrong? Do you have any problems helping Hayley run the pack?”
”No Dad”
”Then what?”
”Dad”
”Yes?”
”Hayley has found her mate,” Tyler said after much hesitation.
”That’s great news then, when are they getting mated?”
”That’s the problem, he is human”
”What’s wrong with being human? Wait” Tyler's father paused as the meaning of what Tyler said dawned on him.
”Human?” Tyler's parents and his mate who had been quiet chorused
”Yes and that's the problem. She didn't even approach him and ever since Lucy had been mad at her and has refused to speak with her. During that fight with the rogues, she couldn't even shift”
”Hmmm”
”Now listen son, ” Tyler's father spoke up after several minutes of silence.
”Though getting her to be mated to another strong werewolf looks like the best option, you should also recall that those wolves seeking to be mated to her are not without an ulterior motive. And no matter how much I think of it, I think she should be with her mate.”
”But... Shhhhh” His father interrupted him
”In as much as the arrangement seems stupid, and looks like a suicide mission, I don't think the moon goddess would do something so meaningless. Let's trust her one more time, and see what she's up to.”
”Dad it's... Think of how happy you are and what would happen if the pack and company fall into the wrong hands. Make your choice after that. Come up to the study let's have some father-son bonding time and let the women do their thing”.

”Hayley, we need to talk,” Tyler said to Hayley when he walked into the pack office and met her sitting on her desk. It had been a week since he spoke with his family and agreed that the best thing for everyone was for Hayley to accept and be with her real mate. But, when he brought the topic up before her, she started avoiding him and began making preparations to get mated to another.
”Hayley, you can't keep avoiding me or manufacturing things for me to do so that we don't talk about this. Because, no matter how much you try, I would still find a way to make you hear what I have to say.”
”Tyler I'm busy can we talk about this later, I have a lot on my plate right now,” Hayley said a frown creasing her features.
”Look Hayley, you keep pushing this back and I'm afraid that if I keep listening to you, we would never have this talk.”
”Tyler you keep pissing me off recently seems like you have a lot of free time on your hands? Should I allocate more work to you? Shouldn't you be spending more time bonding with your mate and son?”
”Yes Hayley I want to be with my family right now but each time I do, I feel guilty. I feel guilty each time I think that you would never get to experience how happy and complete I feel right now.”
”Every couple, destined mates or not have issues so It is whom I choose, and present to the pack as my mate that would be seen as my mate. I should have chosen a mate a long time ago I simply trying to set the records straight.”
”Yes, you are right. But, it is also whom you choose, and present to the pack as your mate and alpha that would determine if the pack and company stay afloat or goes down. The right person for this job who wouldn't betray you is your one true mate. He may be human and not capable of doing much for now, but he is our safest option”.
”No! he is a disaster waiting to happen. We are attacked always, though we have always won, the attacks never ceased. Think of what would happen if they find out we have a weak spot? Then taking over this pack and the company would become an easy feat”
”Hayley, the moon goddess would never do something like this if she didn't have other plans. He could be the alpha we have been waiting for”
”He apparently is the doom that has been trying to befall us in human flesh”
”Okay let's be frank either way, a disaster could happen,” Tyler said
”Your true mate could bring disaster, Your chosen mate could bring disaster too. Don't you think it's better to choose the safer route? Since the moon goddess has destined a disaster whatever option you choose. Choosing the person she chose for you, perhaps, there could be a leeway for us to weather the storm when it comes. Hey, the disasters have already begun, you have lost connection with your wolf. In as much as you are an alpha, you will be strong for the time being but, what happens if you are never able to connect with her again because of your choices? What would happen if the pack finds out? What would happen if your chosen mate has an ulterior motive and finds out your inability to connect with your wolf? There is just one thing I know will happen and it's doom. Though getting mated to another strong werewolf looks like the best option, you should also recall that those wolves seeking to be mated to you, are not without an ulterior motive. And no matter how much I think of it, you would easily be overthrown or even killed”.
”Fine, you are right but how am I supposed to protect him, his death could mean mine too”
”Aren’t you protecting him already? Despite not wanting him”
”Once he becomes aware of our world, that won’t be enough to keep him safe”
”I do agree with you but, the safest place he can be, is by your side and alpha? (he paused) this pack will keep him safe”
”Tyler how I am supposed to tell him that I am his mate and make him understand what it means. He has a life, and if my going to disrupt it, I want it to be a mutual decision. Do I just shift in front of him and say ’hi I'm a wolf and you are my mate’ how I'm I even going to convince him if he thinks I am crazy or some sort of monster?”
”You had someone do a background check on me him right?”
”Yes, he lives a pretty boring life. Aside from work, he spends his time in the library”
”Did you find out what he reads about?”
”Nahh it's just some books so I didn't bother to”
”You should have though then, you won't be worrying over him thinking you are crazy or a monster”.
