Hayley Takaani sat in her office, going through some important documents that concerned the renewal and making of new alliances with some packs looking for loops holes that could be used against her pack, and traps she could use against them.
The conditions drawn out in these contracts could be very ridiculous and could turn out to be a trap if it goes unnoticed so she took her time to go through them carefully.
Packs? Yes, packs. She was a werewolf, and werewolves lived in packs. Like most werewolves, she could do what normal human beings couldn't. She had inhumane strength, incredibly fast reflexes hence her love for expensive and fast cars, a lot of stamina, healed faster, could heal people and see their memories if she concentrated hard enough (this was not peculiar to all of her kind), and most of all, she had heightened senses __ the ability she wished she could turn on and off at will.
Her kind didn't really walk among humans, they lived in isolation in places that a human could never find unless taken there by a werewolf. They lived in places that didn't exist in maps but the members of her pack mixed, worked, and lived among humans without exposing their identities as the pack owned a company they ran with humans __ the reason for most of the alliances they got.
Having to deal with humans was already tiring as she had to exercise a lot of self-control in order not to snap them in two. Though it had its perks, her life would have been pretty much easier if she wasn't able to listen in on conversations she wasn't invited to.
Hayley had always felt that the moon goddess had given her quite an unfair life despite being the alpha of a thriving pack _ Storm moon pack.
She was the only child of the former alpha of the pack Alpha Lucian Takaani and his mate Luna Raina Jacobs. They were lost in a fight with rogues as they were trying to protect her thus the mantle of leadership fell to her at 16.
Taking over as the new alpha of the pack was not hitch-free as she had to deal with the guilt of being the cause of her parents' death and opposition that came because she was a girl.
Werewolves are very dominant creatures and they were not about to take orders from a female and a child for that matter so she had to undergo rigorous training and proved herself over and over again before she successfully took over as alpha.
Even now she is 26 and it has been a decade since she took over as alpha, she still had a lot on her plate to handle but never complained as it would be seen as a sign of weakness on her part. Being an unmated alpha female, many male werewolves were eyeing the position of the alpha of her pack so wanted to be her mate.
Lately, the pressure to take a mate had become much as they all told her she needed to put the pack first and ensure its stability when in the real sense, they were all power-hungry. The pack was thriving and stable though it was not the strongest pack, they had a lot of alliances with many other packs, the strongest ones inclusive. The pressure to take a mate was much because all the unmated werewolves some of which found their mates and rejected them, all had their eyes on the pack’s company, Takaani group.
Takaani group, a construction company was founded by the founders of their pack in the human world, and over time, the group thrived and became powerful.
”Alpha Hayley are you in?” Harley turned towards the slightly open door that had a face peeking in _ the owner of the familiar voice. It was her beta and personal assistant Tyler Kennelly. He is her strongest supporter and the person to whom she is most grateful. Back then, she was able to keep her position and maintain the pack thanks to him.
”I know you can smell me just come in” she responded and he walked into her office in the packhouse.
”It’s Hayley when we are alone Tyler,” she said to him smiling ”I’m fed up with all this farce”
”Hayley” Tyler's voice turned dotting.
”This came in from the office today. They need you to sign on it after going through it” Tyler continued as he kept one of the files he was holding on her desk. ”And these” he waved the rest of the files in his hands ”They need you to go through it and give your approval as it would be needed to sign a huge contract tomorrow”.
On hearing tomorrow, Hayley's face changed and Tyler laughed out loud in his musical voice which sounded hypnotic. Reaching across the desk, he tousled her hair.
”Hey,” he said sounding like a big brother
”Everything is going to be fine. I would have given you a hug like old times but Sylvie would have my head. Her pregnancy hormones seem to make her more possessive and I wouldn't dare have her perceive another woman’s scent on me because I would be dead before I explain things to her”. He said smiling when he thought of his pregnant mate.
” it's fine,” Hayley said giving a bitter smile.
”Sylvie is such a sweet person. She suits you though as she always has you in check so you don't go around charming unmated werewolves”. Tyler simply rolled his eyes and walked out of the office.
Running the pack and the company wasn't an easy fit as they were both tasking and required lots of attention. Though her beta who is also her personal assistant had been of great help, there were things that only her could solve. She needed a strong mate to share the burden with her as she would have already broken down had she been human but it wasn't reason enough for her to be in a haste to choose one. She didn't want to make mistakes, so had made up her mind already to wait for her mate. She believed the moon goddess had given her a mate who would surely help her lessen the burden, giving her the comfort and help she desires. She just hopes the moon goddess would help her find him soon.
