Chapter 7

1060 Words
It has been six months since Jared took over as the new manager of the marketing team, but ’celebrating’ on his own cost him more than he had bargained for as it turned out to be something he had to apologize to Seth over and over again for. He had gone to drink to get his boss off his mind but it turned out he told Seth he went to celebrate getting promoted while drunk and Seth made him regret it. ”Damned Whiskey” he swore Trying to find a balance between his new position and messy love life was like hell for him and he didn't want to go through it again. He had even sworn not to drink again. Fortunately, Seth made up two months ago and since then, he had been doing everything he could to make it up to him. He even made it a point to call Seth twice each day while at work to tell him he loved him and how lucky he was to have him in his life. Words of affirmation simply did the trick when it came to Seth. His phone buzzed, and saw it was a reminder he had set checking it, he called his lover immediately. For him, it was Seth first, then work ”Hey dear” Jared’s voice rang out sweetly when the call he placed on Seth got connected. ”Hi” Seth greeted ”Are you set?” ”Yes” ”I just wanted to tell you that you are my lucky charm. I'm so sorry I won't be around for your book launch, but I promise to make it up to you. Go out with friends, bills on me, I love you” ”Thanks Jared”. Being the manager of the marketing team meant more work for him as he had the clean-up after the mess the former manager made. It was a crucial position as he now handled more vital and important projects of the company. So lately, he had buried himself in a lot of work since his mind kept drifting to the boss. What better way was there to get your mind off things other than burying yourself in work. He had taken up a lot of projects to work on, divided his team into groups with different assignments, and had the different groups report back to him weekly. That way, while he was working on other things, he was still kept abreast with the progress of the work the groups were handling so things were relatively more organized in the marketing department as the projects they were handling were coming up well. At first, his subordinates thought he was taking on more projects to prove he was qualified for the position but on the long run, they realize he was qualified for the position but just chose to do things his way. A light knock was heard on the door and his assistant walked in carrying some files. ”Sir,” she said to Jared making him lift his head from his laptop that he had been occupied with. ”These files came from the higher-ups, we were told to carry on as planned that no changes were needed. The P.A said the boss wants you to draw out plans and carry out a market survey for the bidding of the new estate project the government wants to build and have the proposal manager work with us on creating a suitable proposal we can submit for the contract”. ”And these” she handed over a flash drive to him. ”Is the compilation of this week’s review from the team members”. ”That’s fine. Have the different people heading the groups meet up with me after the lunch break to discuss this” ”Today’s meeting takes place in my office”. *** Hayley had not set her eyes on Jared since that day six months ago. Sometimes, she regretted making him the manager of the marketing team on impulse that day not because he was not going a good job he actually took on a lot of projects and they were coming up fine. He had this way of making things fall in place. But she regretted it because she had put him in a position where they had to come in contact often. She directly avoided meeting with him so much that Tyler had noticed because each time, Jared had something to report to her, she gave instructions to her secretary to have him relate the issue to her personal assistant who would get it across to her but thankfully, Tyler had never brought up the topic of why she avoided Jared so much. Being an alpha sure had its perks. Even though she avoided him, she had done a background check on him and had people protecting him. Lucy had not still spoken to her but she whined a lot when they found out he had a lover, a male lover at that. Even though Hayley was irritable for the first few weeks she found out, along the line, she began to convince herself that it was a good thing that he wasn't into women that way, if one day, out of sheer stupidity she approached him, he wouldn't bulge because humans didn't feel the mate bond. She knew this because she is not the first to be mated to a human from her pack. Those who give had to woo their mates before they fell for them too. But each time he was intimate with his lover, because of the mate bond, she felt it and it hurt her badly. If she had not met him, the mate bond would not have been initiated and he could do his business without her feeling it but she had met him and the bond was initiated the only options left now are either mating another or consummating their bond. She did not want the latter while her wolf was too weak for the former coupled with the fact potential mate were leeches. Instead of getting worried over the mate bond, she buried herself in her work trying to devise a means of keeping him further away from her. Right now, she was working on opening a new branch in another country where she intends to make him the branch manager that way they could be oceans apart. He could get on with his life and perhaps her wolf would heal faster and they could be mated to another. Problem solved, everyone would be safe.
