Sydney Hills Hayley’s secretary stood in front of her office fidgeting as she adjusted her clothes for the umpteenth time before knocking and walking in as she had received a call from her in the middle of the night telling her to report to her office immediately she came to work.
Although her boss didn't seem like a bad person to her, she was pretty strict. She didn't tolerate any form of mistake or slacking. Offenders usually lost their jobs immediately. She didn't always report to work but knows about everything that goes down in the company which earned her the nickname Witch. So on the days she shows up, it was usually for important meetings and everyone walked on eggshells around the company.
Hayley sat in her office in the company going through proposals that were submitted by other construction companies in hopes of co-operating with them on a contract that was awarded her company by the government. It was a large contract they couldn't pull off on their own so they needed to co-operate with other companies for it to go smoothly.
Her secretary was standing at her door, she smelt her. After about five minutes of standing there, she knocked and walked in
”Good morning Ms.Takaani, you sent for me”
”Oh yes Sydney”
”I don't see any contract prepared for the collaboration with Hallow constructions” Hayley continued after a pause. ”I thought they were the best fit for this project? I remember giving explicit instructions to had a contract drawn and have them contacted”
”You did”
”And then what happened?” Hayley asked anger visible in her features. She was an alpha and was used to being obeyed.
”As per your instructions, I had a contract drawn... Then why isn't it on my desk? in as much as this project would bring us a lot of money, it is a ticking time bomb one mistake and we would have a lot on our plate to deal with”. Hayley interrupted her still trying to hold her anger in. Dealing with humans sometimes was like a self-control class for her because if she should lash out, one wrong move and she would keep the person in the ER for a few months.
”But because they are our biggest rivals, before contacting them I had someone search to find out their moves for the past 3 months since the government awarded us the contract and I found out that they bought a lot of underhand construction materials from the black market at a cheap price perhaps in anticipation of the collaboration between us as they had already figured out that we would contact them so I decided against it and had the marketing department do a market survey and cost estimates to pick out the next possible options”.
”And how is the survey coming along?” Harley asked now visible calm
”The manager of the marketing department said that he is handling the survey himself since it is for an important project he promised to get back to me today before the meeting”.
”Good. Quick thinking I will have the bursary team increase your end of the year bonus”
”Thank you Ms. Takaani” Syndey smiled.
”One more thing, have the manager of the marketing department join the meeting and give the details of the survey himself, I want to hear every bit of it”
”Yes Ms. Takaani”
”You can leave now”.

The conference room was very quiet yet the atmosphere around it was suffocating as though there was a fireplace that had been lit the air conditioner in the room did nothing as the people in the room were visible sweating yet none dared to raise their hands to wipe the sweat.
Jared was scared when he was suddenly summoned into the conference room as a thousand and one reasons why he would be summoned rushed through his mind. Was he about you lose his job? Had he made a mistake in the survey he submitted to the manager earlier he remembered him saying it was needed in a meeting with the big boss. It hadn't been up to three years since he got his job and was already about to lose it.
He walked into the conference room and tensed up the more when he saw how suffocating the atmosphere was and the manager who stood near the projector which displayed the survey he did fidgeting.
Looking around the office, his eyes landed on her she was wearing an oxblood two-piece suit that had shorts for bottoms over a black long-sleeved tee-shirt that was not buttoned to the top giving a generous view of her cleavage. Her straight black hair was scooped to her right shoulder as it lets one see her neck and silver dangling earrings that were almost reaching her shoulder. He saw her lips move but didn't register what she said as he thought of how her painted red lips would feel against his.
”Mr. Black?” Jared came back to his senses hearing her call his name.
”Mr. Black?” Hayley called out again
”Yes Ms. Takaani”
”Who did the market survey and cost estimates?” hearing her question, his original fear came rushing back.
”I did” he answered trying not to seem afraid when he was shaking like a leaf inside.
”Could you please do the presentation? Let us know why you chose more than one company”.
Jared took the remote control from the hands of the manager and passed a few slides to show a slide having different graphs on it.
”From the graphs here, you can see that over the last four years, Divo steels and Hallway constructions have been competing with each other and till date, no one is inferior to the other be it in their production rate, quality of their products, or their efficiency. Though Hallow constructions is far above them,(he scrolled to another slide) we can see that for the past two years, their production rate has dropped consequently due to clients pulling out of deals with them. Some of the clients who canceled their contracts with Hallow constructions signed new deals with either Divo steels or Hallway constructions. So it would be long before Divo and Hallway top Hollow constructions on the chart”.
”Why didn't you pick one from the two of them?” a director asked
”That’s because it would be pointless. I was thinking that we would contact both of them as I learned they submitted proposals in hopes of being able to cooperate with us, tell them they are both fit for the collaboration but we would be going with the company that would more cost-efficient. We would tell them what we require and have them draw up proposals. When they are done, we would go with the company that saves us more expenses and is still able to deliver”.
”Fine let's go with that”. Hayley said and stood up indicating the end of the meeting. Getting to the door, she stopped and turned to the manager
”Takaani no longer needs you. Pack up and leave. Mr. Black here would be taking over from you.”
”Gentlemen do you have any issue with this?” she said referring to the men who were still sitting while watching Jared seemed so surprised and the manager who was already looking pale.
”Mr. Kennelly, prepare my car” she called out closing the door behind her when she heard no objections.
