My mind felt surprisingly calm. Knowing that Aiden had only been a weak little puppy following the big bad wolf’s orders made him a lot less intimidating to me. I felt nothing while I watched Liz manhandle Sophie. The mate bond with her was officially broken. Now if I can emotionally detach from my own brother, I might come out of this part of the fight relatively unscathed.
My mom and dad both were genial with Brandon and Adiel, but their faces were set like stone. They were pissed, and I’m happy to see it. I don’t know if they’re upset on my behalf or simply at the circumstances, but it felt nice to think that they were mad because of how I’d been mistreated over the past seven years of my life.
