Lucy clapped her hands together brightly.
“Well,” she said, her voice cutting cleanly through the tension hanging over the road, “this morning just got interesting.”
For a moment, nobody moved.
Then Alpha Julian exhaled slowly through his nose, the controlled breath of a wolf whose quiet morning had just been completely derailed.
“This conversation,” he said evenly, “is not happening in the middle of my town.”
Only then did I notice how many people had stopped to watch.
A mechanic had paused halfway under a truck, one arm still braced against the frame. Two women outside the bakery stood frozen mid-conversation, openly staring now. Even the children near the water pump had gone quiet while an older woman ushered them closer with a sharp, warning look.
