Shadow of the Past – Chapter 1: The Bridge of Regret
The rain poured down relentlessly, drenching everything in sight. Marry watched the storm around her, feeling like the world itself was crying with her. And then she saw him.
A boy, quiet, sitting on the cold wet ground, his eyes fixed on the earth. The icy drops of rain slid down his face, unable to hide the tears streaming beneath. His voice was soft, almost a whisper, but heavy with pain.
"Why are you crying? Everything… everything is finally over. You got what you wanted, didn’t you? So, what about me?" His deep, raspy voice trembled.
"You found your happiness, but what about me?" he shouted suddenly, the words slicing through the storm.
He paused, a broken silence surrounding him, before he looked at the girl lying in his arms—a girl who had exhaled her last breath, peaceful yet gone from this world. Her body bore wounds, bandages covering her fragile frame.
He kissed her forehead softly, then raised his gaze to Marry, who was sobbing uncontrollably. A faint, sad smile crossed his face, as if her tears mirrored his own agony.
"You should be smiling. Today, you got what you wanted."
Marry choked on her words. “Please… listen to me… it was my mistake—”
"Enough." he cut her off sharply. "Stop this acting. Go, celebrate… she’s gone. You left me alone. And Miss Marry William… never think you will be happy after today. You’ll never be happy. For the rest of your life… you will cry, just like me."
He stood, dragging her gaze to the hospital rooftop where the lifeless girl lay.
"I can’t live without you for even a minute." His voice cracked.
Then, without a word, he jumped—Marry’s scream lost in the roar of the storm.
The world fell silent. Only the pounding of hearts remained, echoing in the emptiness.
A shadow appeared in the mirror—a girl opening her eyes. She was back in a room, lying on a bed, alone. Her gaze wandered around the room. The calendar caught her eye—2045.
“The same dream… why hasn’t it moved forward? One day… this dream will take my life,” she whispered to herself.
The room was quiet, except for the ticking of the clock, growing louder, filling the silence. Marry opened her eyes, checking the time—3 a.m. Her eyes drifted to the empty side of the bed.
“You’re not here again… what mistake of mine is this?”
She rose, walked to the window, looking up at the sky. The silence was suffocating, yet the calm was strangely heavy on her chest. Who could she turn to? Who could understand her pain?
The wind howled outside, carrying the rain, as Marry stared at the dark sky, her heart pounding with questions… and fear.
