Vivica’s POV
“You are my… mate, Jason. What are you doing with her?!” I demanded, the words tumbling out in a mess of shock and rage.
The hall erupted into whispers. Snickers followed, rippling through the crowd as their gazes settled on me.
Like I was insane.
In seconds, they circled us—me, Jason, and Betty.
Celia slipped up beside me, her fingers curling around mine as she tried to pull me back. “Viv, let’s go,” she whispered.
I shook her off. I wasn’t backing down.
Jason didn’t move. His face remained the same—calm, unreadable—as if I wasn’t even speaking to him.
Betty, however, stepped forward, a smug smile spreading across her face.
“What did you just say?” she asked.
“I’m not talking to you. Stay out of this,” I snapped, dismissing her before turning back to Jason.
“You promised we’d be together—whether the pack approved or not. So what are you doing with her?!” My voice cracked. “Why did you give her a ring?!”
Tears streamed freely down my face.
Jason chuckled—a low, guttural sound that made my chest tighten.
Then he stepped closer.
“I don’t owe you any explanation, Vivica.”
“No… you do,” I said, slower now, even though every word hurt. “You owe me an explanation. You waited all these years for me to get my wolf… just to turn around and choose her?” My trembling finger pointed at Betty.
Betty threw her head back and laughed.
“He was waiting for me, not you, dumbass.”
“What?!” I staggered slightly.
“She’s right,” Jason said flatly. “Now step back into the crowd and stop interrupting the party.”
His words struck like lightning—sharp, suffocating.
“Have you been toying with me all this time?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” A crooked grin tugged at his lips. “Who in their right mind would want anything to do with you?”
The words cut deeper than I expected.
Still… something lingered.
I swallowed hard. “If my father hadn’t been labeled a traitor… would you have—”
“No!” he thundered, cutting me off. “I would still choose Betty. Over and over again. She is the ideal woman for me—the perfect Luna for Red-Bone.”
My lips pressed together. My vision blurred.
And then…
He dealt the final blow.
Jason pulled Betty to his side, his gaze softening as he looked at her. When he turned back to me, it was gone—replaced with something cold.
“You are unfit to be my mate, Hale,” he said. “I sever whatever bond that exists between us.”
Something inside me snapped.
Pain tore through my chest, sharp and suffocating. It burned through bone, through blood—until I couldn’t breathe.
I staggered.
The bond broke. A scream ripped out of me, and my knees hit the ground. No one moved. No one cared.
They just watched, without the slightest glint of empathy.
The moment Jason discarded me, the crowd surged closer. Like flies to a corpse.
“She really thought she had a chance with the Alpha.”
Laughter exploded.
“Ostracize her!” someone shouted.
The word spread like fire.
“Ostracize her!”
“Ostracize her!”
Suddenly, the air shifted. The laughter died down.
Silence fell. Heavy. Sudden.
Heavy footsteps echoed through the hall.
“It’s Alpha Adrian,” someone whispered.
Adrian Danegan?
My thoughts scrambled.
Before I could look up, a pair of sleek black boots stopped in front of me.
My heart hammered wildly.
That same pull, that same heat crawling through my veins. My wolf stirred—alive, alert. What kind of cruel joke was this? I slowly lifted my head. Hazel eyes met mine—deep, sharp, flecked with gold.
“You feel it too, don’t you?” Adrian’s voice was low as he crouched in front of me.
I couldn’t speak. But I nodded.
He extended his hand. “Then come with me.”
I stared at it, hesitation clawing at me. Was this escape… or another trap?
At this point it didn’t matter. Anything was better than this. My hand trembled as I reached for his.
“Don’t you dare!” Jason’s voice sliced through the hall.
I froze, then I turned.
His eyes burned with anger—but beneath it… something flickered. Regret? It was gone just as quickly.
“You belong to this pack!” he growled. “You will serve and cater to my people until your last breath. That is the only way to atone for your father’s sins!”
“Not on my watch,” Adrian drawled.
The calm in his voice was more dangerous than yelling.
Jason’s fists clenched, but he didn’t move.
“Let the w***e go, my love,” Betty chimed sweetly. “She’s useless to this pack anyway. Alpha Adrian will definitely regret this.”
Adrian’s gaze drifted to her. Cold. Ruthless.
“Say one more word,” his voice dropped, smooth and lethal, “and I’ll have your head served on a platter.”
Her smile faltered. She clutched onto Jason tight, knuckles whitening.
He turned back to me, hands settling on my shoulders.
The bond sparked again—but this time, warm, soothing, alive, and not excruciating.
Not destructive either. It just simply felt—right.
He felt it too. I saw it in his eyes.
Adrian helped me to my feet, his movements careful.
“Let’s go home,” he murmured, brushing a strand of hair from my face.
My chest tightened at the word home.
He offered his hand again. This time, I didn’t hesitate. I took it.
We moved toward the exit. The crowd parted instantly. No one dared stand in his way. Behind us, Jason’s face wrung with humiliation.
“Guards!” he roared. “Seize her!”
His men stepped forward, instantly halting in their tracks when Adrian’s gaze landed on them, pinning them in place.
One by one, they stepped back. Trembling.
“You useless cowards!” Jason bellowed before lunging at Adrian.
Adrian gently shoved me aside. Celia caught me.
Jason’s fist flew—straight for Adrian’s jaw—but Adrian caught it mid-air.
He twisted it.
Jason let out a hoarse cry, stumbling back in defeat.
Still, he attacked again—this time, with a low kick.
Adrian didn’t flinch. He simply lifted his leg and brought it down hard. The cracking of bone shattered the hall, followed by Jason’s scream.
Adrian raised his hand, claws flashing, ready to strike one last time.
“Stop!” I cried.
He froze.
“I don’t want more problems,” I said, breath trembling. “Let’s just… leave.”
Jason scrambled backward, fear flickering in his eyes.
Adrian stood over him—untouchable, like a god of damnation. Then he turned to me.
“Let’s go home.”
Something about the way he said it made my stomach twist.
And this time—I followed without looking back.
