With love and blessings, N. **** Aleida Lark put away the last of her thread with a heavy sigh. ‘Do you suppose the parade was really all that?’ Aleida’s co-worker and friend, Sally, sighed dreamily. ‘All those big hunky werewolves giving us a show...’ ‘I doubt that’s what happened.’ Aleida laughed, closing and locking the cabinet. Carefully she hung the old iron key on the hook next to said cabinet and turned to her friend. The girls were the same height at five and a half feet tall, but it was hard to tell most days. Aleida usually slouched, and Sally consistently held her head high in her search for any, and all, available men. ‘It might’ve!’ Sally pouted as she grabbed her umbrella from the stand beside the door and threw Aleida her light summer scarf. ‘I doubt it was anything like what you’ve imagined.’ Aleida teased, draping the scarf around her neck. ‘If they were even remotely shirtless, it was probably because they just shifted back to their human form. They probably just walked through, straight to castle, to finally sign the peace treaty.’ ‘I wonder if shifting hurts them.’ Sally mused as she opened the door and stepped out, umbrella shielding the afternoon sunlight. ‘Or, if they enjoy the pain.’ She smiled with lust filled eyes. ‘You’re incorrigible.’ Aleida giggled, locking the door behind them and rattling it, just to check it had slid into place. But it did make her wonder if the pain she and her fellow vampires experienced during the turning compared to what the werewolves experienced every time they shifted. The two vampires left their little tailoring shop arm in arm under Sally’s umbrella. The two girls had met after their turning and had gotten along so well, the vampire in charge allocated them to work together in the city. Every new vampire is given a job to help with the community for the first 100 years of their new vampiric life, but not every vampire gets to work with their best friend. Sally dragged Aleida towards the main roadway in the city. The roadway was the only way in or out of the castle, and the safest option out of the city. The roadway was the usual four horses wide, and was the only path the city bothered to keep clear. It didn’t matter to Sally that the roadway was entirely out of the girls post work route home, but Aleida didn’t have the heart to insist otherwise. The pair ground to a halt in the centre of the roadway, Sally breathing in the air deeply. After a minute, she slumped, her eyes wide and sad. ‘Not one single nice scent.’ She pouted. Aleida patted her friends’ shoulder reassuringly. ‘Want to go get that croissant now?’ she asked, knowing that her friend will bounce back from this disappointment as soon as the next cute guy walked past. Sally nodded glumly, and Aleida gently took her elbow to steer her away. They were about to step off the roadway, when an enticing smell hit Aleida so hard she stopped in her tracks. ‘Do you smell that?’ she asked her friend. Sally sniffed the air hesitantly, but nothing caught her attention. ‘What is it?’ Sally asked, watching her usually withdrawn friend begin to follow the scent. Sally hurried to keep up with Aleida and keep the umbrella over them. Aleida weaved through the throngs of vampires, occasional human, and even a temporary Elf medicine stall, with a grace and speed Sally often forget she had. Sally herself was clumsy and kept bumping into others, even stubbing her toe on the elfish stall, and was beginning to seriously fall behind when Aleida finally stopped. Sally paused, immediately shielding her friend with the umbrella before realising where they were. ‘The castle gates?’ Sally questioned Aleida, who had a sad, faraway look in her eyes. The pair stood there in silence just long enough for the two guards inside the gate began to get restless. Sally placed one hand on the back of Aleida’s neck reassuringly. ‘Let’s go get that croissant.’ Aleida merely said quietly, turning away and looping her arm through Sally’s once again. **** Aleida finished the day in a haze. The scent she had picked up on had been her mates, she was sure of it. They hadn’t met yet, and she hadn’t believed that you could literally sniff out your mate before ever setting eyes on them. Every nerve in her body was screaming at her to go find her mate, but instead she followed her usual routine with Sally, going to their favourite bakery, returning the shop key and the days earnings to Beatrice, the shop owner, before making it home in time for dinner. With great care, Aleida cooked herself a rare steak and poured herself a glass of wine. Every fibre of her being was screaming at her to go. To find that scent! But something in the back of her mind kept her at home. She lived in a small cottage, only two rooms, on the outskirts of the city that surrounded the towering castle. There was a good chance her mate would notice her scent by the gates and follow it to her home. Besides, she reasoned with herself, if they’re in the castle, they’re probably very important, and will reject her anyway. Why bother getting your hopes up? She knew having a mate who was important enough to have front door access to the castle ... was an overwhelming thought. She liked being alone and left to her own devices, being part of the crowd. To be a part of the vampire royalty, in any way, was not something Aleida ever dreamed of happening for her. ‘It is too much to ask that I get a mate who won’t put me in the spotlight?’ Aleida grumbled into her wine, before finishing the last mouthful. Sighing to herself she cleaned her dishes and put them away. The sun had finally set properly, and the nightly market was beginning to buzz with life a few streets over. Aleida was debating if she wanted to change her clothes before heading there herself, when the sounds of heavy, running feet on the path outside caught her attention. Vampires ran with light feet, but this runner was pounding the ground. Was it a werewolf? She wondered, frozen in place with her head tilted and ears perked. The wolves were not permitted in this part of the city – everyone knew that as part of the peace treaty the wolves were only granted permission to follow the roadway in and out. No detours. Aleida stopped breathing when the heavy runner stopped directly in front of her door. She listened intently, frowning at the wood separating them. It was silent, save for the lively sounds of the night market drifting through the air. The heavy runner was puffing, breathing deeply. ‘Mate.’ Aleida’s eyes widened. They’d found her?! She made a move to open the door, but the heavy runner pounded on it, causing the wood to shake. ‘Mother above, give me a damned second!’ Aleida shouted, jumping across the room to wrench the door open. Before her stood a broad shouldered, six-foot giant with deep black hair and intense hazel eyes. It was all Aleida had time to notice before the giant – her giant – stepped over her threshold and swept her into his arms, nuzzling his cheek against hers and breathing deeply. Aleida found herself automatically nuzzling back and breathing his scent in deeply through her nose. ‘Mate.’ Her giant growled, and began trailing kisses along her bare neck to her jawline. ‘Mate.’ Aleida growled back, earning her a satisfied, humming growl from her giant. He slammed the door closed with his foot and effortlessly spun her around, pushing her against the door and pressing his entire body against hers. Aleida’s body was on fire, her mind consumed by this giant. Her giant. Who had his hands running down the sides of her body, from her shoulders to her thighs and back, while managing to avoid every sensitive area. He still had his face buried in her neck, breathing her in. Aleida’s hands seemed to have a mind of their own as she ran them across his back, down to his hips, up and along the length of his arms. He was perfectly toned and strong. Her giant pulled back long enough to gaze at her with those intense eyes before he placed both hands on either side of her face, and slowly leaned in to kiss her. It was shy, almost hesitant at first, and the moment their lips touched, Aleida felt the mate bond snap into place. It didn’t take long before their kiss grew more insistent, more needing. Aleida lifted her hands to her giants’ pants line, but he growled against her lips, removed his hands from her face, gathered both of her small hands into one of his and stopped kissing her long enough to bring her arms above her head. ‘I want to enjoy you first.’ He breathed into Aleida’s ear, sending shivers of anticipation throughout her body, before kissing her deeply again. His free hand snaked its way under her dress, caressing her thighs. His fingers found her panties, growling with satisfaction when he found them already wet. Aleida couldn’t stop the whimper escaping her lips as he lightly, too lightly, ran his fingers along the outside of her panties. Her giant stopped kissing her, gazing into her eyes again, as his fingers slid underneath the fabric. He cupped her with his palm, feeling how wet she was, and Aleida couldn’t stop the instinctive grind of her hips against his calloused hand. He chuckled lightly, a sound that sent zings of joy through Aleida’s body. ‘So eager for me?’ He breathed. Aleida could only nod. ‘Tell me, you want me.’ Her giant growled. ‘Please, please, keep going. I want you, please-’ Aleida’s rambling begging was cut off when he slid one finger inside her. Just the one, and held it still. ‘Keep going.’ He purred, his pupils wide. Aleida found herself humping her giants’ finger with need, which he stopped by lifting her higher against the door. She whimpered again, but he merely raised one eyebrow. ‘Please, don’t stop. Please, I need you in me, I need you-’ Aleida cut herself off with a moan of pleasure when her giant slid in another finger. Aleida arched her back and her eyes fluttered closed. ‘Don’t close your eyes.’ Her giant spoke each word in time with a thrust from his fingers. His strong fingers. Aleida was gasping, feeling the pleasure build up, she opened her eyes and gazed into her giants’ eyes. He was close enough to kiss her again. ‘c*m for me. c*m for your mate.’ He murmured, his lips capturing hers in a bruising kiss. It was all Aleida needed. She came undone around his fingers, moaning into his lips as he explored her mouth with his tongue. Once she had ridden the wave, her giant kissed her lightly on the lips, withdrew his fingers and gently lowered her onto the ground. While Aleida fixed her panties she watched, transfixed, as her giant tasted her on his fingers. He gave her a predatory smile when he noticed she was watching. ‘What’s your name?’
