CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
~DAPHNE~
I stood still for a moment, feeling dazed. What an iconic exit. I suddenly remembered I was supposed to meet up with Phoebe for swimming lessons and I walked out of the office.
I’ve always wanted to learn to swim, but mum and dad never let me. They were always so overprotective for reasons best known to them. I suddenly got a text and I paused. It was from my brother, Dominique.
“Dylan’s surgery went well and he’s doing okay,”
I exhaled in relief. Thank goodness nothing bad happened to him.
I opened the door that led to the swimming pool and walked in. I was greeted with the view of a massive blue pool—looking clean like a professional pool. Kennedy had previously shown me around when I first came into Majesty Academy but looking at it again made me feel excited.
I felt blessed to have the opportunity to be here. I walked by the empty pool, admiring the still water.
“I wonder where the life guards are,” I muttered to myself. Suddenly, I felt the door jam behind me. I turned around in shock and could see Yolanda and Yasmine walking towards me, an evil smirk on their faces.
“Well…well…well,” Yolanda walked up to me with folded arms. Yasmine was trailing behind closely, her hands behind her.
“It’s the boyfriend stealer,” Yasmine echoed behind her. I watched in horror as she revealed what she was holding behind—a baseball bat.
I slowly began to move back, my legs shaking with fear. I hit the wall and I froze, not knowing what to do to get out of the situation.
They stopped a few inches away from me, an evil smile plastered on their faces.
“You’re really bold, scholarship girl, and quite clever too. My plan was to lock you up in the storage room but somehow, Laken was in there before you. I don’t know how you managed to do it so that you two will get stuck together—alone,”
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about!” My lips quivered.
“Shut it you slut!” Yasmine spat. “We know you somehow made sure Laken was in there with you so you would seduce him like the cheap w***e you are!”
“What?” I shook my head in confusion. “You locked me in there yourself. I didn’t even know I was going to be locked in. Plus I’m claustrophobic so—“
“Shut it!” Yolanda screamed. “The sound of your voice makes my skin crawl. I hate you so much! I wish you would suffer painfully,”
I looked at her in astonishment. Her eyes were filled with hate as she spoke to me. I began to wonder if she had met me previously and had an issue with me. She’s not even Laken’s girlfriend—at least that’s what he said.
I took in a deep breath before speaking, making sure to maintain eye contact with both of them.
“Look, I don’t know why you dislike me so much but let’s make peace and move on. I just—“
Pow! I felt a hard slap on my face, followed by a ringing sensation in my ear. I could swear I saw stars from how loud the slap was. I held my hot cheeks in shock as I felt pain radiate all the way to my ears.
“Who do you think you are to make negotiations over here?” Yolanda thundered, her jaw clenched, fist tight—nose blowing hot air.
I blinked hard as I stared at her. I didn’t know what to say because I was short on words.
“You are beneath me, scholarship girl. I am a beta’s daughter, fit for someone like Laken. You are a dirty random b***h picked from the slum. I mean, you can’t even afford your own fees,”
I didn’t expect it but somehow, their words stung me. I was reminded of where I came from and the fact that I had nobody. My brothers didn’t care about me. Maybe Dylan did a little bit, but he was bedded in the hospital with cancer spreading in his veins. With Dominique and Derek in charge, I’m as good as alone.
“That’s right,” Yasmine’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts. “You know he’s with Yolanda, yet you shamelessly throw yourself at him!”
“Well, that’s rich coming from you!” I mumbled under my breath.
“You b***h!” Yasmine grabbed my hair roughly and shoved my head against the wall. “How dare you talk back. It’s about time we show you the stuff we’re made of,”
“Let me go!” I struggled to yank her hands off me but her grip on my hair tightened. Yolanda joined her and they both began to pull my hair and curse at me.
“Ouch! That hurts!” I cried out in pain. It felt like my hair was being uprooted from my head.
“That’s what I love to hear!” Yasmine laughed over me. “I love to see you in agony. It’s like dopamine to my veins,”
She let out a loud evil laughter.
“Please—“ I cried out. I was starting to feel heat inside of me and I didn’t understand it. The heat flowed all the way to my head and I gnashed my teeth, shutting my eyes close.
I suddenly heard a grunt and I opened my eyes. Yasmine and Yolanda were on the floor, cursing under their breath as they struggled to stand.
“You b***h! Why did your hair suddenly burn us and push us to the ground?” Yolanda jumped up and charged at me with Yasmine following behind.
“What? I don’t understand what you’re saying,” I blurted out and touched my hair but it felt normal. I was so confused and disturbed. What is going on here?
“Your hair—it sent us flying backward. How did you do that?”
I blinked, still confused. I had shut my eyes and didn’t see anything happen so I wasn’t sure what Yasmine was yapping about.
“Enough talking! It’s about time we teach this b***h a lesson!”
Before I could react, they both grabbed me and began to hit me with the baseball. I screamed in pain but they didn’t care about that. They suddenly stopped and before I could sigh in relief, Yasmine dragged my hands while Yolanda dragged my legs towards the pool. My eyes widened in horror at what they were about to do.
“Please! Please let me go!” I cried out helplessly as I struggled underneath their grip but they didn’t listen to me.
“Please—“ I screamed in fear as I was so close to the pool that I could touch the water.
“Shut it b***h!” This will teach you!” Yasmine yelled and together with her sister, they threw me into the pool. I gasped for air as I struggled to stay afloat.
“Help me!” I cried out as my hands flapped helplessly in the water. My legs couldn’t touch the floor of the pool because of how deep it was and I tried pushing my body up to stay afloat but nothing was working. I began to panic and it made everything worse. I could see Yasmine and Yolanda laughing as they watched me drown.
“That would teach you b***h! Let’s go, Yasmine,”
I watched in horror as they walked out on me. Nobody is coming to save me. I was starting to get tired from the struggling and I shut my eyes. Perhaps, it’s time for me to let go. There’s no use in delaying the inevitable.
A tear dropped out of my eyes as I let myself go. I began to sink further into the pool till I felt darkness around me.
