Daisy POV
What was Prince Gavin up to? I knew he was sent here with multiple objectives, one being to tame Trisha, but I was struggling to comprehend his sudden change in behavior. And his sudden lack of control. I had been forced to drop to my knees and submit to him after Trisha took off with Erik, and Gavin had growled loud enough that all supernatural kind within the immediate vicinity either submitted or scattered. I had been his Gamma almost my entire life, and had never seen him this way.
He had always been a gentleman, but he never, ever, complimented a woman. Let alone treated one so tenderly. But then again, this was Trisha we’re talking about. She wouldn’t stand for him treating her any less than a queen.
Speaking of, Trisha was acting out of sorts too. And her arousal had perfumed the air stronger than skunk fumes. Wait. Arousal!? Could that mean…No! It wasn’t possible! Was it? Was Trisha the Prince’s mate!? As the thoughts hit me, I suddenly got an abrupt link from my Alpha.
‘Meet me in the library at the lunch bell. We need to talk.’
‘Yes, Alpha,’ I replied.
I knew this was coming, but I didn’t expect it so soon. Once he found out I was Trisha’s friend, I knew he would want answers. I hadn’t known how to explain to him that I had befriended the Rogue Human, completely by accident. After arguing with Beta Jim about how to go about antagonizing Trisha per Prince Gavin’s orders to test her limits, he had been forcing me to submit for disrespect.
However, he chose to do it publicly and didn’t account for Trisha being in the area. Trisha stood up to him without hesitation, seeing me as a bullied girl in distress, when in fact, I was defying his tactics to bully Trisha. When Trisha began threatening him, Jim made the mistake of telling Trisha she “looked sexy pretending to be a badass.” Trisha didn’t like that one bit and kneed him in the crotch hard as she could.
I’ve never seen our Beta submit, yelp, whine, or crumble to anyone. But he did all of those before Trisha, and I was there to witness it. Then she had helped me up and taken me away as if nothing happened. And that’s how our friendship started and I was allowed to test her in a different manner.
I also learned a great deal about Trisha, well, present day things. She never spoke of her past before state custody and being emancipated. If you brought it up, you could see she suffered some form of PTSD and trauma. So I never pressed her for more. And my aura never even caused a tickle of recognition in her. Never, not even once.
The bell rang and I left history, swiftly making my way to the library. His Highness would not tolerate tardiness. I arrived swiftly and was grateful to arrive seconds before he did. He took me to a desk near the back of the library and sat down across for me.
“You summoned me Alpha Prince?” I said, bowing my head in submission. “Yes. I need you to tell me everything you know about Trisha. Including how you came to be her friend.” I swallowed. I knew he would demand this information from me, but I thought I had more time.
I prayed Trisha would forgive me, because nothing she told me would ever be secret. Not to the Prince, anyway. And I really had come to enjoy her. “Of course your highness. May I have permission to memory cast with you?” I asked. Gavin nodded. We shut our eyes and I opened the mindlink wide, and in a matter of minutes I shared with him every memory I had with Trisha.
I shared all intricate details I knew about her.
Like her favorite color was a mix of silver and blue, she adored homesteads and one day wanted her own, that she found men who were cowboys as well as gentlemen attractive, but refused to date until after college. Her favorite animals were any feline of any size, and wolves. This bit caused Gavin to chuckle.
I shared what she told me of her life in State Custody, and her emancipation. How she preferred living alone than with others because she could never get along. I even shared the sensitive topic of her grandmother-the only thing she’d talk about prior to being in state custody. To Trisha, her grandmother was basically her second mother, or rather, her true mother. She basically raised her up until she died and Trisha discovered her.
Trisha held her in very high regard, and idolized her. No one was allowed to insult or speak ill of her grandmother, or Trisha would flip. I showed him her favorite flower was a lily and that she loved gardens. I shared her strange affinity for shawls and clothes with stripes and flower patterns.
Lastly, I also shared her compassionate side. Her desire for total equality. It was one of the things that drove her to be continuously defiant. Every memory I had, I shared, guarding only one because it also embarrassed me a little. He would know Trisha just as well as I did, including her quirks. Like how her eye twitched when she was annoyed or angry.
After a few moments, we opened our eyes. “I have a new assignment for you, Daisy,” he said and I nodded. As his Gamma, I was prepared for the order to stop being her friend and to be sent away. However, I was shocked at his next words. “You are now Trisha’s Royal Guard.” When I gasped and asked, “Why?” he mindlinked me.
‘Because she is my mate. That info is not to be shared with anyone. I’m only entrusting you with this information, because I need your help.’
Everything made sense now that he confirmed it. Everything clicked into place. And that meant everything would change. I bowed my head once more. “Of course, My Lord. How can I be of assistance?”
“Due to the nature of the situation, I require means to remain within close proximity to Trisha. As such, I need you to help me get her to accept me, as I wait for her to be ready to learn of her role,” I could tell Gavin was struggling to choose his words carefully and I knew he was stressing inconspicuously, the gravity of the situation. He had activated their mate bond.
But he wasn’t forcing a mating or marking on her.
He wanted her to be ready. But in doing so, he would become weaker and his wolf more feral. And the effects on Trisha would be unknown. A regular lycan mating to human and resisting the bond, would result in the human falling ill, sometimes into a coma. If they survived, all their memories were wiped out… and they began a new existence. But the lycan never survived. But to be mated to a Royal…Trisha would likely die.
I nodded. I knew how to get him close to Trisha, but it would require Prince Gavin’s cooperation.
“Very well, Alpha. However, due to the delicate position I am placed in, I must request your permission to address you by first name under the guise of my brother,” I told him, daring to meet his eyes.
To my surprise, his eyes twinkled and he smiled. Less than a day and Trisha had changed him drastically. She was already making the world a better place, and she didn’t even know it. “What did you have in mind?” he asked.
