Chris- "There's more, your mother isn't dead, she was taken away."
"What?"
"I thought my mother died in the battle field, years ago."
"No Stella, while I was hiding I've find out she was taken to prison because she was a traitor. "
"But that's not true, my mother wouldn't. "
" It's not true of course. "
"Then who took her?" I asked.
“The High King, to the Hallow moon prison."
My blood ran cold.
There was only one man who held that title.
Austin's father.
The retired king.
The man everyone believed had disappeared from politics.
The man who had supposedly surrendered his crown years ago.
I looked toward Bloodmoonlight.
Suddenly, Austin's betrayal seemed insignificant.
There was a much bigger game being played.
And my mother had been a prisoner all along.
I turned toward Ronan.
“We're going to the Hollow Moon Prison.”
He nodded.
“I'll come with you.”
I looked at Luke.
He met my gaze.
“So will I.”
My wolf stirred.
Our mate.
I clenched my fists.
Not now.
There were more important things.
My mother was alive.
And somewhere in the mountains, he was waiting for me.
I sheathed my sword.
“Prepare the warriors.”
Luke nodded.
Chrisl stepped closer.
“Stella.”
I turned.
His eyes met mine.
“You need to know something before we go.”
“What?”
He hesitated.
“Your mother wasn't taken because he was a traitor.”
“I know.”
“No.”
His voice became serious.
“She was taken because she discovered what your wolf truly is.”
I felt the blood drain from my face.
“What is my wolf?”
Chris stared into my eyes.
“She isn't merely the Silver Wolf.”
He took a breath.
“She is the last bloodline of the Moon Queen.”
My heart stopped.
And somewhere deep inside me, my wolf whispered:
It's time to remember.
The words followed me long after Kael finished speaking.
The last bloodline of the Moon Queen.
I stood on the ridge overlooking the battlefield, unable to move.
We had won.
Yet I felt no victory.
My mother was alive.
My husband had betrayed me.
Luke is my true mate.
And now I was supposedly descended from an ancient queen whose blood could change the balance of the entire werewolf world.
It was too much.
I turned toward Chris.
“What is the Moon Queen?”
He studied me carefully.
“You truly don't remember?”
“No.”
His expression saddened.
“Your father wanted to protect you from the truth.”
“Then tell me
Luke stepped closer.
“Chris, perhaps we should wait until we're somewhere safe.”
“No.”
I shook my head.
“I've spent my entire life being protected from the truth.”
I looked directly at Chris.
“I'm done.”
He nodded.
“The Moon Queen was the first ruler of the united wolf territories.”
I frowned.
“I thought the kingdoms had always been separate.”
“They were.”
“Then what happened?”
“War.”
Chris looked toward the mountains.
“Centuries ago, the wolves were divided into hundreds of packs. They fought over land, bloodlines, and power. The Moon Queen united them.”
“What happened to her?”
“She disappeared.”
“Died?”
“No one knows.”
Luke folded his arms.
“And what does that have to do with Stella?”
Chris looked at me.
“Her descendants inherited a rare ability.”
I waited.
“They can command the ancient wolves.”
My eyebrows drew together.
“Command them?”
“Not like an Alpha commands a pack.”
His voice became quieter.
“Their blood can awaken dormant wolf magic.”
I felt a strange warmth beneath my skin.
Chris continued.
“Your wolf isn't simply powerful because you're a skilled warrior. She's powerful because she's carrying something ancient.”
I remembered the first time my wolf had awakened.
The first time she had spoken to me.
The first time I'd felt her strength.
I'd always assumed it was because I was strong.
Now I wasn't sure.
“What happens if someone else gets my blood?”
Chris's expression became grim.
“They could use it to awaken the Moonstone.”
I stared at him.
“What is the Moonstone?”
“The source of the ancient wolves' power.”
Luke's face hardened.
“And Austin's family wants it.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“To control every wolf kingdom.”
Silence settled over us.
Suddenly, my mother's disappearance made sense.
The accusations.
The political pressure.
Austin's strange interest in my bloodline.
His insistence that I stop training.
His obsession with keeping me inside the palace.
He hadn't wanted a gentle wife.
He had wanted a powerless one.
I looked at my hands.
All those years, I had thought I was becoming weaker because I stopped fighting.
Perhaps that was exactly what they wanted.
I looked at Chris.
“Did Austin know?”
Chris hesitated.
“Yes.”
My heart tightened.
“How much?”
“He knew you belonged to the Silver Wolf bloodline.”
“And the Moon Queen?”
“I don't know.”
I laughed bitterly.
“Everyone seems to know more about me than I do.”
Luke reached for my hand.
I allowed him to take it.
His fingers closed gently around mine.
“You know enough now.”
I looked at him.
He gave me a reassuring smile.
“We'll uncover the rest together.”
"Mate."
My wolf stirred.
That Night
We camped inside the ruins of an old fortress near the northern mountains.
The warriors slept around the fire.
Mara was curled beneath a blanket.
Luke sat across from me, sharpening his sword.
Chris stood alone near the edge of the ruins, watching the darkness.
I couldn't sleep.
My mind kept returning to Austin.
Not because I missed him.
Because I wanted to understand.
How could someone claim to love me while secretly planning my destruction?
I finally stood.
Luke looked up.
“Where are you going?”
“Walking.”
“I'll come.”
“You don't have to.”
“I know.”
He stood anyway.
We walked toward the forest.
For several minutes, neither of us spoke.
Then I asked:
“Do you hate him?”
Luke didn't need to ask who I meant.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because he hurt you.”
I looked at him.
“That's not a reason.”
“It is for me.”
I smiled faintly.
“You're still the same.”
“How?”
“You always wanted to protect me.”
“I still do.”
“But I don't need protecting.”
“I know.”
“Then why?”
He stopped walking.
“Because loving someone doesn't stop just because they don't need you.”
My heart tightened.
He stepped closer.
“I don't want to control you.”
“I know.”
“I don't want to own you.”
“I know.”
“I just want to stand beside you.”
I looked into his eyes.
“You deserve someone who can give you a peaceful life.”
He smiled sadly.
“I don't want peace.”
“No?”
“I want you.”
My heart pounded.
He reached toward my face but stopped before touching me.
“Tell me to walk away.”
I couldn't.
“Stella.”
I closed my eyes.
“I can't.”
His hand gently touched my cheek.
I leaned into it before I could stop myself.
My wolf stirred.
My whole body heated.
"I want you to be mine tonight. "
"Luke..."
" Stella you know I don't have patience, but I waited for you to be mine for five years, now I can't let you go my whole body wants you."
I stared into his eyes, I wanted to stop him, but my body didn't.
My wolf yearned for him to touch me.
My whole body reacted to his touch like something I've never felt before.
I wanted him so bad, and I couldn't stop it.
His finger went up to my lower lip and touched it.
He then bite his lower lip and pulled me closer to him.
Our bodies pressed in one another.
I could feel his warmth.
He leaned closer to my face and our lips touch.
The kiss started slowly.
Then it pased up, our tongues met.
We continued until both of us became breathless.
We then stopped and looked at each other's eyes, both breathing heavily.
He the whispered to my ears.
"My Tent is closer."
He then looked to my eyes for approval.
I didn't utter any words, but my eyes and head that nodded said it all.
He then smiled and lifted me up from the ground.
I gasps.
