Kashe skipped over, “I’m all over it.” Dawson asked, “She texted you too?” Kashe winked, “She knows I’ll handle shit.” Aunt Haley kissed him deeply. Then spoke rapid Elvian which had Arwen replying. Aunt Haley glared at everyone but me then popped out sending me her feelings to stay safe.
Uncle Benjamin faded in and portals opened. Hugo and Arvid came through with my cousin Spencer. I asked, “Is everyone coming?” Grandpa Remington spoke from behind me, “Possibly.” I snorted, “Did Grandpa Rob and Grandpa Titus come too?” They both answered, “Yup.” I looked around then finally said, “Grandma Veronica, come on out.” She faded in with her sisters and brothers.
Uncle Eric laughed, “I see Haley wasn’t messing around.” Cayden came through with a decent portion of the army. I admitted, “This is a lot of people when we don’t know where we are going?” Aiden laughed, “I do.” I pointed out, “You don’t know where he lives and Haley tried to pop to the children and was sent back. Harshly.”
Aiden winked, “Yes, but I have read more than Haley has. She tried to pop to the children. I do not intend to do so. Aiylee.” She told him, “None of our paths alter on this one. Hers does though.” She pointed at Arwen. Arwen asked, “What does that mean?” She shrugged, “This path is important to you. That’s what I know.”
I asked, “So, where are we going?” He answered, “Dane Hills of course.” Grandma Veronica said, “In Leicester?” He winked, “Yup.” Our group held on and he popped us there. I literally caught a chill. I asked, “Why if the Black Annis man killed the Fairy Rules were they not King?” Aiden answered, “A non-Fairy blood cannot sit on our throne. He did it for the partial children they handed over to him.”
I asked, “For what?” He said, “Their skin. Black Annius, enjoy tasting flesh. Humans will die when they rip it off their flesh with their iron claws, but supernaturals heal. I thought this group was long since dead.” I hadn’t even heard of them. I wondered if my Grandpa or dad had. I asked, “Are any good?” Aiden answered, “For the Large part, they are evil. There will be good in any group.” The wind hit his back so hard he stumbled.
I asked, “Does Arion not agree?” He admitted, “No.” Then I was going with Arion and not people who saw the good in people. Eating flesh was bad. They couldn't be a big group though or we’d have caught onto them.
We came to a cave hidden by a massive waterfall. Despite the area being beautiful, I felt ill. This whole place made me want to throw up. We moved quietly and quickly. I kept Arwen with me because if this was about this thing thinking he could kill her, he was wrong. When we came into the cave Arwen froze.
A squawk sounded behind us. We turned and I saw a Griffin. It had a collar around it’s through probably preventing it from shifting back and its wings were clipped. Arwen went to the Griffin. She whispered, “My Magical, you poor thing.” Aiden snapped his fingers and the collar fell off. The Griffen flapped its wings and squawked before it raced into the mouth of the cave. I said, “I guess we need to tell the Griffin’s we found one of theirs.” I took off after Arwen.
As we ran Aiden told us all, “I know you can all hear me. DO NOT call my sister when you see the state of these people. Let me get our healers in here first.” Why? Because their flesh was ripped off? She’d seen that done to people in our realm. She’d done it herself even. I would see what we were about to and then make a judgment call about it.
The Griffen was eating someone. Aiden announced, “It won’t be the one we want. I’d guess there are three more hiding before we get into the true part of the lair.” Uncle Eric shifted and sniffed the air. He took off to a corner where the creepiest thing I’d ever since in my life came at him. Dawson shot it in the head before Thor pounced on it.
I looked at him, but he was running to my Uncle. He did have explicit instructions. Cayden ordered members to stay back with them. Lucinda popped in front of us and blew up three spots. A cackle sounded and she winked before she blew that area up and body parts flew around like rain.
Aiden ordered, “Let’s go.” He popped in front with the Fairies, but I was going to see this through goddamn it. I pulled the weapon my Grandpa had put on my back and ran as fast I could. I came upon an even more terrifying site.
The Black Annis was standing over Andrei with his claws about to rip into him. His teeth were razor sharp points that looked like a million vampire fangs. His eyes were glowing white and his hair was greasy and unkempt. His nose was long and curled over his mouth. He cackled, “Fairy King came to avenge his long King. Too bad he dies today, just like those before him.” So he looked and sounded like a raving lunatic.
Andrei was shaking in fear as tears dripped down his face. I raised my weapon, “You’ll never make it to the Fairy King.” He cackled like a madman, “Your flesh will taste so good. I can smell how good it is. You’d last forever, wouldn’t you? You’re stronger than those partials I’ve been fed off. Your power radiates through this cave. I must have your skin.”
Aiylee was moving to the other children behind him, getting them to a Maddox who had gone with her and opened a portal. I taunted him, “So come get me.” He jumped at me with his iron claws raised. Too bad for him since my Aunt had mated with my Uncle Eric, I’d trained with wolves in both human and wolf form.
I dodged and struck at his outstretched hands and cut one off. He screamed in pain, but it was off. It didn’t sound like it had before. I went on alert as those behind me restrained him. He’d been standing with Andrei and jumped at me. That’s when I noticed the uneven space near where Andrei was.
I ripped the trap door open and yanked him out. I gritted my teeth as the iron claws ripped into me. Lucinda blew his hands off as he gnashed his teeth at me. He screamed, “NEVER CAUGHT! ALWAYS BETTER! I WILL EAT YOUR FLESH!” I punched him in the mouth knocking out his teeth. Aiden complimented, “Good catch.”
I snorted, “You knew and were going to handle him on your own.” He grinned, “No, I was going to say where he was when you weren’t so close to him.” I questioned, “Is there a special way to kill them?” He answered, “Of course. You did see the animals with them, right? Lucinda blew one up, and the animals ripped them to pieces.”
To my absolute shock, Aiden grabbed the man’s dirty hair and ripped the Black Annis’ head clean off using my hold as opposition.” He told me, “You’ll want to rip the rest of him up.” I handed the body over, “It seems more important to you. I gave a man my word about his little boy.” I turned, “Andrei.” He burst into tears.
I looked for wounds on him, but other than some defensive wounds he didn’t have any. He cried, “Mi-a ucis-o pe mama. Apoi a spus că carnea nu este suficient de bună pentru el. Mi-e dor de tatăl meu și de mama mea vitregă. vreau să merg acasă (He killed my mom. Then he said he flesh wasn't good enough for him. I miss my dad and my stepmom. I want to go home).”
I assured him, “You’ll go home.” I petted his hair like my own mother used to do when I was upset. It seemed to calm him. Aiden released some magic then called in his healers. When I spotted the children I was horrified.
I said, “Haley will be needed.” He ground out, “I’ll call her, just not right now. I need them to look better first.” I asked, “Why?” He looked at me, “You do not want the answer to that question.” I ground my teeth, “You are saying this has been done to her. That’s why she doesn’t like seeing people flayed?!”
He replied, “I did not say that and they were not flayed.” I gritted my teeth knowing he was being evasive. Knowing that he’d seen something and my Aunt had looked like those children. He was protecting her from a flashback as much as he could. Their healers could help and I agreed it was the right call. Even though she could have one anyway.
Arwen helped carry in a man who’d managed to shift back. He joked, “I’m not quite used to legs yet.” I asked, “How long were you in that form?” He winced, “ Fifty years.” He admitted, “I’m a bit of a wandering spirit for our kind. I was traveling through here and thought the lore was just lore. Then I heard the town talking about another kid taken. I just wanted to check it out. They must have known I was here because they got that magical collar that wouldn’t let me shift around me. I did kill two of those fuckers before they did it though.”
I opened a portal to theirs in Romania. Soldiers on their side came through and Arwen went with me. She must have communicated back to them. I still had Andrei in my arms. My Grandpa said, “Your Aunt will offer to take his memories if he wishes.” I nodded knowing that was true. He sent me his feelings to return quickly, and I sent my agreement.
I walked through the portal. Arwen touched me and brought me through. We got on the carper. I said, “You might want to…” She spoke in Elvian. We started moving and the Griffin nearly fell off. I barely grabbed him in time. I finished, “Warn your Magical.” She blushed, “I am terribly sorry.”
He shrugged, “I like it. This realm is stunning.” He took in everything around him, open eyed in awe. I couldn't imagine being stuck in Griffin form for so long and watching all the bad things happen he had. It was going to weigh on him. I told him, “I’m sure my Aunt will be giving you a call.” He chuckled, “So her mate said over his shoulder as he told the guard he didn't have to shoot him in the head before he reached him and ran off after you. He’s quite protective. So many of you are. It’s fascinating.”
We arrived at the house. The guards visibly gasped seeing Andrei. They quickly let us in. The Duchess screamed, “ANDREI! YOU FOUND HIM! CONALL COME QUICK OUR BOY IS HOME!” Her Magical came running out of the kitchen wearing an apron. He must have been cooking her food.
She took Andrei from me and spoke to him in Elvian. God damn not knowing this damn language. Conall hugged them both and Andrei clung to them. I did catch on that he was crying about their mother as they all rocked each other. I nodded to Arwen and turned to go.
Conall yelled, “WAIT!” I turned, “Yes.” He dropped to a knee, “I, Duke Conall Faslous, swear a boon to…” He trailed off. I replied, “Crown Prince Hastein Cambridge.” He faltered and several people gasped. Arwen muttered, “I knew he was Royal, but I did not see that coming.” Conall gulped, “Crown Prince Hastein Cambridge now to the end of my days. Should I die, a member of my family shall honor this boon.”
I said, “I accept your boon and passage of it through your family, and grant that to my future children as well should I not call it in.” He nodded and stood. Andrei asked, “Is he like super important or something?” Everyone laughed.
I told him, ‘“Everyone is important to someone. Your parents were very worried for you.” He cried, “He buried my mom while I couldn't move.” He’d drugged him then. I told him, “Your mom’s body is here and I’m sure you’ll be taken to see her.” Andrei grabbed Conall by the back of the shirt and pulled him back into their hug. Arwen escorted me out of the realm and I opened a portal to go back and figure out what hell else was in that damn cave.
ELVES ARE ON SCENE! Lincoln is ready and willing to get to Hastein at all times. MORE YULE CATS (please note this group is NOT the Royal Clouder K met) TJ got to ride one. Haley was NOT impressed with the Elf Queen. Were you? Hastein was all over this case and quickly figured it all out. The Elves get around on magic carpets in their realm :) that's fun! Black Annius' arrived and EXITED the universe quite swiftly. Did you see that twist coming with him and being invovled with the O'Toole's? GRIFFIN'S ARE ON SCENE! And we have a boon given. Gosh, I can think of such a handy reason to call it in later in this book. Can't you? ;)
