Getting a Leg Up Pt. 2

Our experiences shape us. Her family could’ve given her love, but they didn’t. To her, her brothers still tried on the Demon side. They saw her and they were amused by her. Melanie must have described her relationship and she could see herself in them. Jason turning on Melanie, even though it didn’t happen, was what she struggled with. She idolized the sibling bond. She was also projecting her anger at her family on them which wasn’t fair, but I also knew they didn’t care. Jason smirked at her and even Tristan smiled. They liked that their sister had someone so ready to be on her side. She would thaw and un-bristle with them. Her family was another matter. I would be talking to them about where their place was in her life with Gabe. I couldn’t get over how right this all felt. Like the missing pieces we never were there in our family was now glaringly obvious. We needed all these women and men in our lives. I should’ve seen it. Aunt Haley sent me the emotion we were kept from realizing it and circumvented by goddesses. Which pissed us both off. I felt the emotions Kingsley was grappling with that she was the one with the big family instead of someone looking in. I quickly took her home. I was shocked by her request to get my family together. Pride thrummed in me. Instantly took out my phone. Aunt Haley answered, “Hastein.” I said, “I need you to charm my island so no one could see or hear anything that happens.” She replied, “Done.” I called Jocelyn next. She answered, “Hastein.” I said, “Put out a notice and get guards clearing the area near my island. No one is to leave the mainland for the next four hours.” Kingsley made a choked noise. Sending me the emotion that it wouldn’t take that long. I wasn’t going to risk it either way. Jocelyn laughed, “You know I love flexing that power as your secretary. I’m on it. Consider it done.” I hung up knowing it would be. Aunt Haley sent me the feeling she was done. I called my dad. He replied, “So, your Aunt feels smug and happy.” I replied, “I asked her to do a charm on my island. I need you to gather my brothers and their mates with mom on my island.” I sent my brothers that emotion. He agreed, “Alright. What’s going on?” I winked at Kingsley, “You’ll see.” I hung up. She snorted, “I feel like you’re really playing this up.” I opened a portal to Alexander’s island. I pulled her through. I yanked her into a kiss. I whispered, “I’m so proud of you for wanting to show them what you are. They will be so impressed. I’m pretty sure my brothers are locking in guesses with the hellion triplets for what you are.” She winced, “They won’t be right. No one ever guesses” I agreed, “They won’t be, but my Aunt probably strongly suspects at this point. You do know if you have cousins she will scream, beg, and plead for them to shift if they exist. Given they’ll be pink.” She managed a laugh, “That could be funny, and Kayda could probably make them shift for her.” Kayda felt absolutely confident that she could. She whispered, “Are you going to ride on my back?” I answered, “If you want. I can portal there too.” She pulled me close, “I want you with me.” I cupped her face, “There is no where I’d rather be.” A tear dropped from her eyes and I caught it. I said, “We don’t have to do this.” She winced, “What if I scare them?” I laughed, “We are Hackura, Cupcake.” She grinned, “That sounded like a challenge. I bet if they heard Kayda screech before they saw her it would give them pause.” I threw my head back and laughed. I told her, “You do this however you want.” My mom sent the feeling they were ready and waiting. I asked, “Are you ready for this?” She shifted in Kayda and knelt down. I climbed on and told her, “They will love you. They might fall over like Alexander, but they will love you.” Someone was absolutely going down. She’d just shifted for my cousin. She was going for shock and awe now. She launched into the sky. Nearing my island she let loose a screech that had me laughing. My family bonds were panicked and my dad was ready to fight. I sent them the emotion that it was fine. Damn. I could link and shout at the ones in the pack to calm down, but this was a little funny. I knew the second my dad figured it out. His shock and disbelief gave way to something to do with Aiden. He knew Aiden had been looking for Dragons. Kayda picked up speed and flew above them. I felt her concern. I sent her all the love in the bond. I watched Arvid and Alvin hit their knees. Brenton would’ve but Caius kept him upright. Wilder, Wren, and Weston fist pumped in the air like they’d won the lottery even though I knew they didn’t guess she was a Dragon. Gideon and Griffith were gaping up at me while Presley simply started to run in Kayda’s direction. I yanked on my bond with Gabe to have him pick him up. He snatched him up while Angelique looked so excited she might actually piss her damn pants. Everest and Luca were clapping which made me smile. Arvid managed to yell, “HASTEIN IS ON HER BACK!” Gabe shot him an incredulous look like it was the dumbest thing he could’ve shouted. Angelique let loose a squealing shriek of excitement. I caught my dad’s eyes and winked. I felt all their pride in my mate. I told her, “They are so proud of you.” My other connections not on this island pinged with concern. I even felt Cousin Benny poking in. I sent them all the feeling it was fine. Benny immediately relaxed, but Grandpa Titus did not. I saw my mom on the phone and knew she’d handle it. I felt a begrudging acceptance in all bond’s except my Aunt’s. She was happy for me. Kayda landed in front of my family. I went for a fun dismount and jumped off. I felt Kayda’s panic then she chuffed realizing she’d worried for nothing. I smirked at my family saying, “So, my mate’s a dragon.” Kingsley felt amused in the bond. Grandpa Titus faded in to add, “You skipped one detail, H. She’s a Royal dragon, a Princess.” Ok, so I guess one more person knew. Which meant Grandma Veronica would find out fast. I admitted, “I know. I told K when we find her family Aunt Haley will beg her cousins to shift because Duchesses are pink.” Mom said, “I mean, if you had a girl she would be pink too.” It wouldn’t happen and to be honest I was disappointed. A little girl with her mom’s blonde hair with pink tips was something I desperately wanted and never would have. My emotions confused my mate enough that she shifted back. I handed her my shirt. I could feel her nerves on my tongue. I didn’t have to ask who was going to break this tension. I knew exactly who it would be and she proved me right. Angelique squealed, “GIRLFRIEND! I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU DIDN’T TELL ME YOU WERE A DRAGON!” Kingsley blushed, “I didn’t usually tell people. Melanie came across me in Dragon form and Kayda and I adored her from the onset.” Hugo sent me his shock and I gestured out with both my hands. Dad walked to Kingsley and me. He said, “You are amazing. I know you’re just getting your memories back, but I know this; your family better have a damn good reason for why they did this. If they don’t, we will make them pay. I promise that to you. I’m sure it’s strange I already consider you a daughter to me, but I do.” They really better ha. All my brother’s echoed that sentiment. Louis was ready to kill them with me right now. Dad hugged her saying, “I’m so incredibly proud of you for making it in the earthly realm without being spotted. I know Melanie set up some place for you with Paige, but that was in recent years. You have been hiding, and quite stealthily so, for decades. You are incredible and this realm is honored you will be our Queen one day. I’m honored you are my son’s other half. My boy has never smiled this much in his life.” I sent her all my pride then playfully punched my dad in the arm. Dad praised, “You’re incredible.” She whispered, “Thank you.” Mom added, “I’m sure it was very hard for you to hide your nature, but our people will never give up your secret. They can find out in your time when you’re ready. As my husband said, we will get answers for your memories. If we don’t like those answers then those people will never see you again. We will see to it. There’s a chance they did it for you, though.” She paused then added, “As a mother, I can’t imagine making those choices; I know that if I did it would be to save my child. There’s no greater force on earth than a parent doing something to protect their child. We will find out what happened to you and help you navigate it either way.” mom cupped her face. A tear slid silently down Kingsley's cheek and I felt Kayda’s horror. Mom pulled her in for a hug. Dad and my brothers sent me their feelings that we would protect my mate at all costs. I was a little worried about the upcoming fight we’d have. I knew we’d win, but I worried someone would get their hands on my mate. She was MINE and I would rip the Supernatural Council to pieces if they thought to touch her. I felt his slight fear about all this, and I knew what it was. I linked him, “I’m glad you joined Black Mountain finally so I can say this. We will protect her. We have Gunner and Melanie to monitor everything. The second Gunner figures out her code he’ll have what she does. Then they’ll take over the world.” I wasn’t even surprised that he found out I joined. I replied laughing, “If that isn’t the truth. I’m pissed at her family. I don’t think I can be nice to them.” He assured me, “You don’t have to be. I can be diplomatic and you can be pissed off.” I grinned at him as he clapped me on the back. We’d have Kingsley’s six in our own ways. I winked at my triplet brothers. I would release them to do their worst on her family. They all high fived. Hugo shouted, “A DRAGON?! Our sister is a DRAGON! We are going to have Dragon nephews. Think of the chaos we can cause!” I snorted, “You mean my children and mate can cause chaos. Not you.” Hugo waved, “Semantics.” Angelique cackled, “I’m going to get up to such trouble with your kids.” Kingsley’s eyes widened. We heard a yell. Kingsley asked, “Uhh what happened?” I answered, “It’s New Years in our realm.” We’d spent a decent amount of time at the Conner’s house for the belated Christmas for Melanie. She gasped, “Don’t you have some big parade?” I nodded, “Yes.” She balked, “But you’re all here.” Grandpa said, “My wife is there along with all my children except Bjourn. Haley even popped in to distract everyone from the fact we weren’t there.” She admitted, “How fast time moves here is a mind fuck.” Louis cackled, “Says the Dragon.” She jolted and their eyes met before we all busted up into laughter. Kingsley asked, “Where are the Conners spending New Years?” I answered, “Faerie.” She winked, “Who’s ready to hear about how Melanie sets that party ablaze?” I grinned and the delight rang around all our bonds. I admitted, “That will be a lot of fun.” I told my family, “Glad you know. Grandpa, you were supposed to wait.” He rolled his eyes. I teased, “Such a lack of patience you displayed.” He retorted, “I’m retired. Having patience is your dad’s job. Well, and yours.” Dad bellowed out a laugh. I dragged Kingsley into my house here and slammed my lips on hers. We spent our time there until anger barreled into me so strongly I jumped away from Kingsley as she shifted. She shifted back, eyes wide. She shouted, “Oh my god, are you ok?!” I grabbed her, “I’m fine. I knew it hit our bond and got out of the way.” I quickly opened a portal and ran through to my parents. Dad said, “It’s not Alexander.” Kingsley shouted, “MELANIE IS THAT MAD? Oh god. So many people are dead. Or dying.” Angelique’s hands lit on fire. She said, “Let’s go f**k up Faerie then.” I was all for that plan. A portal was opened and we ran through it together. Aunt Haley popped in and my eyes were literally drawn to Melanie. She was lit up as if she was a literal light. A beacon to guide anyone to her. Kingsley’s shock echoed in our bond. I shouted, “What the s**t?” Melanie’s answer was to scream and throw her hands out. A seemingly innocent gesture of anger except that bolts of electricity shot out from her damn fingertips. Aunt Haley declared, “I’m going on the record and saying Melanie got the ability to make it f*****g rain from Alexander.” No sooner had she said that then the rain became a pounding storm. Exsis practically shrieked, “Ok. Why does she look like a glow stick?” It was actually interesting watching him panic. Usually the Fairies were the one with the knowledge they gave in pieces about the promised siblings. Now, Alexander’s mate was making his voice squeak. Kingsley teasingly smacked my arm, but I was too gleeful to do anything but smile. Aiylee popped next to Exsis and kissed him hard. Aunt Haley asked, “The f**k is glow stick?” That made Kingsley and I laugh along with several other people. Angelique asked, “But do I get to set anyone on fire?” Maybe. Uncle Eric had stepped away demanding answers on how to get Melanie to stop glowing. I linked my dad, “What happened?” He replied, “You know what I do.” I linked EJ, “Who made her mad? And dear god, why did they make her mad?” He replied, “Alexander felt pain for a second before the bond lit up with anger and there is dried blood on his arm.” I groaned, “So if he bleeds she lights up LIKE A GLOW STICK?! Can our lives get more complicated?” He bellowed, “Why would you say that? Yes. Of course it can. Now, it’s practically guaranteed to do so.” He was right that was a rookie mistake to ask that question. EJ used his pushing power. To my shock, Melanie snarled at him. Elise put her hands on EJ’s arm. He asked, “Ladybug?” Kingsley said, “I think she wants them to suffer more.” I shot her a look. She said, “Ok, maybe Freya told Kayda those exact words.” That sounded about right. Melanie stalked over to a fairy that was burned and had a bloody nose. She picked him up and slammed him into a tree. She told him, “I will ask you once….How many of you are there.” He cringed, “Too many for you to take.” Did he not see all of us standing here? That was insulting. Kingsley scoffed beside me. Freya and Melanie’s voices combined as they shouted, “I’m a goddess. There is NOTHING and NO ONE that is too much for me to take. TELL ME HOW MANY?!” Oh god. Angelique tried to cover her laugh then gave up. She said, “So, we thought we had plans to contain angry Melanie, but we do NOT have plans to contain angry GODDESS Melanie with a wolf. We’re screwed.” Aiden popped in and talked to his daughter and son in law. It had to be a mind f**k that his son in law was a lifelong friend of his. Not a problem I would have. Thank Aesir. Eventually Aunt Haley repeated, “Again, what the f**k is a glow stick?!” No one answered her. Aiden asked, “Sister, can you stop making it rain?” Aunt Haley scoffed, “Oh, I didn’t make it start.” Aiden looked at Alexander who simply pointed at Melanie. This was the strangest game of not it playing out in front of me. Aiden sighed, “Well, I see. Sister, do something about it.” Aunt Haley made it stop raining. Kingsley whispered, “Uhh bad call.” Melanie growled and the rain started pelting us much harder than before. Aunt Haley shrugged saying, “I mean we can keep doing that, but she’s really f*****g emotional right now. She might bring hail next time. Just let her come back to herself.” I thought hail was a Water power. Maybe it was because she was a goddess? Kingsley blew out a breath when Melanie ripped the guys vocal cords out. He dropped to the ground clutching his throat as he died. I asked, “Did you teach her that?” She winked, “I taught her how to do it more effectively.” I kissed her hard. I heard Melanie scream, “HOW MANY?!” then pulled back. The woman said, “Fifty. The goblins were supposed to be a distraction, but they didn’t last long enough. We hoped if we took out the mates of the King and Crown Princess they would be devastated.” A truly and utterly stupid plan. Since Aunt Haley would just pull us. Melanie snarled, “And the fact that the King’s sister is the best healer in all of Faerie’s history didn’t factor into your plan? Or the fact that my mate is the second best? BULLSHIT!” That was a good point. Kingsley groaned, “Please all gods and goddess do NOT let that woman insult Melanie’s Xander.” Angelique snickered, “Nooooo. Where is your sense of fun, K! Let them insult him. It’s always funny what she does in reply.” Kingsley replied, “I’m pretty sure I had hearing damage after she shrieked at the last guy.” Angelique cackled, “I know. Wasn’t it great?” We did not have the same definition of great. Ours weren’t even in the same damn realm or stratosphere. Kingsley shook her head. While I made what felt like the millionth mental note to have her read me the report. Aunt Haley popped over to help Melanie. EJ went to Alexander who really didn’t seem to register much and his bond was just filled with Melanie’s rage. EJ could probably better determine his actual feelings as his twin. EJ commented, “You appear to be in shock.” Alexander replied dryly, “As our cousin pointed out, my mate looks like a glow stick. LOOK at her eyes.” EJ said, “Yes, I see that.” I chimed in, “We all see that.” Grandpa Titus asked, “Are you alright, Alexander?” He replied, “It wasn’t my anger you felt. She was so angry that it went through our connection then out through mine. It wasn’t even that bad. It was a graze.” This was about a graze? He took a shot? Not even a shot?! A GRAZE?! She was going to get glow stick pissed over a graze. f**k. Kingsley snorted, “Men.” Angelique said, “Seconded.” I turned to them both while Kingsley rolled her eyes at me. Alexander asked, “What?” Angelique tilted her head. She said, “K, I think he’s serious.” Kingsley answered, “He is. They all don’t get it.” I could practically taste that Alexander was near losing it levels. I urged, “Then explain it to us please, babe.” Kingsley sighed, “Melanie has sworn to never see anyone she loves get shot again. You getting shot is like the worst case scenario. I’m sure she flashed back to that night.” f**k us all. I couldn’t make sure no one she loved wasn’t shot at. It happened not infrequently. Uncle Eric rejoined us lamenting his phone conversation. “Dylan is NEVER going to shut up about missing this, but he said in order for Melanie to calm down you need to touch her or she’s going to go off and electrocute trees and the surrounding area.” He was looking at Alexander. Angelique whispered, “Obvious. That answer was so obvious.” Kingsley playfully shoved her. Uncle Eric continued, “Which he of course is on board for.” Alexander didn’t need to be told twice. Her glow dimmed with his arms around her, but I could still feel her rage. Kingsley said, “He needs to lay one on her.” Angelique cooed, “Yes, the macking to end all macs.” I shook my head. Aunt Haley announced, “I have the names, brother. Let’s go kick some f*****g ass.” Aiden snorted, “Let’s.” Melanie growled, “We are coming.” Did she think that wasn’t an option? This was Faerie. They were going to scream about this forever. Aiden smiled, “I mean having a mate of my nephew’s lit up like a light bulb can’t hurt. Plus, it’s fun.” Fun wasn’t the word I’d use. EJ grabbed onto me and I grabbed Kingsley. We were popped back into the party. Kingsley was ready to move in with Melanie and Angelique let her hands lit on fire. Maximus wiggled his eyebrows then stood beside her. Gabe winked at him. Trouble makers ALL of them. Kingsley rubbed my back. Aiden projected his voice, “We already know who you are, but I will give you a chance to kneel now. You betrayed the crown. You went against the promised siblings. You allowed goblins into the realm, you worked with our enemy the ring, and you tried to kill the Queen and Future King.” Gasps echoed around the party. One came forward and begged, “Mercy my King! Please.” I wouldn’t give it to him if Aiden did. Angelique snickered, “Detonation in T minus less than one second.” I didn’t need to ask who had no mercy and zero control of a newly unlocked power. Bolts shot out of Melanie’s fingertips and hit him dead center mass. The man was dead before he hit the ground. She snarled, “There’s your mercy.” I linked Uncle Eric, “I could get behind that kind of mercy.” He jolted then shouted, “YOU JOINED THE PACK AND DIDN’T TELL ME?!” I teased, “Wasn’t this a fun way to find out?” He shot me an incredulous look. The Fairy’s, including my Aunt, were using their powers to deal with this. Aiylee questioned one, “Why? You know you can’t overthrow us. We are the prophesized family.” Excellent Question. The man looked up and said, “Long live the O’Toole’s.” Uncle Eric snarled down the pack link. I shot my dad a look. I asked, “They are alive?” He said, “Apparently.” Great. Couldn't any of the Holloran’s do ANYTHING right? Kill the whole family line. It was the ONLY thing they did right before Aiden took over. Well, Fenilton probably did some good BUT MOSTLY it was killing the O’Toole’s.
