Trusting Him Pt. 1

Kingsley was content. It was an odd feeling to feel so full of happiness and peaceful at the same time. Grandma was teasing me, which made everything feel right. Kayda said, “I am happy for you that they will use your true name.” It felt right. Like everything was finally falling into place for me. Kayda scoffed, “Did Stefan really draw mate’s attention?” I replied, “H won’t care.” I knew that for a fact because Melanie talked about the Hackura, Fairies, and Wolves at LENGTH. Hackura didn’t care about past partners. Kayda purred, “But we are being wrapped in a possessive hold right now.” I snorted, “I’m sure that upsets you.” She scoffed, “Say more things about our past. NO! A tour of past partners.” I questioned, “Do you want him to do that?” She screeched in my head and I barely withheld my wince. They got on the subject of Robyn and her mom. Kayda told me, “He can do that, if he wants me to ROAST AND EAT THEM!” I snorted, “So maybe, we don’t do it to him.” She retorted, “His reaction would not be the same as ours.” She might have a point, I just wasn’t going to walk him all over to meet the men I’d had s*x with. That sounded like a horrible idea. I’d probably see some of them anyway, no need to bring him to them sooner. When Hastein got visibly angrier at what Robyn’s mom did. His eyes blazed and I knew from Melanie’s ranting this was about to go to a bad place. Their family was sensitive about things like this because of what happened to his aunt. Kayda scoffed, “Oh, who cares? Let him slaughter them all. We could go and ROAST people.” Again with the roasting. I calmed him down much to my Dragon’s dismay. She grumbled, “You always get in the way of my fun of roasting and eating. It’s rather rude when you think about it. We have a whole realm we could shift in now.” The thought still gave me pause. I could feel myself opening up to showing him though. He was as fearless as Melanie’s file said he was. It also indicated he would be excited about Dragons if I ever wanted to tell him. She said he liked them. Kayda purred, “His stuffed Kayda Dragon is proof of that. Our pet is so smart.” I would tell her that its name was K, but she’d just argue. So, I left her to that delusion she wanted to live in. What was the harm? It’s a stuffed animal's name. Eventually she commented, “I bet Catarina will be scoped up by Hackura people.” I agreed, “For sure. I’m not sure when his time will allow that, but she’s definitely done for now that he knows her name.” That relieved me quite a bit to be honest. It annoyed me that I couldn’t get to her without questions or people noticing. Kayda grumbled, “Because you wouldn’t let me just ROAST and EAT her.” I reasoned, “We didn’t because we didn’t want to possibly give up Robin’s location. You know they would’ve thought that Robin lived if she disappeared.” Kayda muttered, “I could’ve roasted them all then the problem would’ve been solved.” I shot back, “An entire shifter community disappearing would’ve set off people’s radar.” Kayda snorted, “Oh darn, the Hackura would’ve looked into it. Or our pet would’ve created a cover story if she had someone else circulate.” Yeah, because if Melanie ever tried to circulate a cover story literally no one would believe it if they asked her questions. Hastein was briefly on his phone. I hoped he wasn’t going out on a mission soon. I’d have to ask ILYX later. Kayda purred, “He’s talking about hatchlings again. Our nesting needs to hit. Imagine a perfect little hatchling with his face.” Yeah, that was making me want to jump him. Kayda snorted, “Darn. That’s such hardship. JUMP HIM HE TASTES LIKE A STEAK!” I looked at my watch and knew I needed to leave. Not for the first time, I wanted to stay. Kayda offered, “We can come back more often now. I find them all even more tolerable than before when mate is around.” That was a glowing recommendation from my Dragon. Normally she was all these ones look roastable and can move into needs to be roasted territory. Kayda said, “Because most people are in roastable territory until they work their way out. I do not agree with the whole giving people the benefit of the doubt bullshit. Doubt everyone until proven otherwise is my motto.” I dryly replied, “I am aware.” I softened then added, “And it’s served us well when we stayed hidden all these years.” Kayda confidently stated, “I know.” Hastein took us back to the Hackura realm before we got to my place. When he was all over me. Kayda purred, “He’s such a man’s man.” Which thrilled us both. My heart jumped when he mentioned our Hackura bonding ceremony. I’d always been jealous of it, if I was being honest. After being so lonely for so long feeling someone else and their emotions sounded like a dream I’d never have. Kayda said, “Yes, and now we will. Stop thinking and start orgasming.” When someone knocked I was ready to breathe fire. Kayda shouted, “YES! LET ME GET WHOEVER IT IS BECAUSE I CAN SMELL IT’S THE ROASTABLE b***h!” It wasn’t her worst idea. Kayda pleaded, “Give into these feelings we can TOTALLY eat her.” I checked the systems and sure enough it was Harriah. Kayda screeched, “ROAST HER!” I was going to make her wait. Kayda agreed, “Yes, she should suffer before I eat her.” I grabbed my robe and opened the door giving her my nastiest look. I felt the fire in my throat and closed my eyes. She claimed there was an emergency. Kayda snorted, “There is. I’m hungry and she looks like my snack.” The longer she banged on the door the more I was considering giving into Kayda. Once we finished, I quickly got ready and opened the door. Harriah sneered, “Having s*x sessions with yourself is sad.” I snorted, “I wasn’t alone.” She frowned, “I didn’t hear anything.” Kayda said, “She’s a moron. Let me eat her.” I told Harriah, “My place is sound proofed. If you ever come to get me again I will show you another reason I work for a vampire and it’s in my fist.” Kayda shouted, “YES! Get her!” She gasped, “You can’t threaten me.” I retorted, “I just did.” I left her in my dust and got to my car and revved the engine. I’d lose her on the way to the office too. That made me feel just a smidge better. I took off like a shot. Kayda grumbled, “I could breathe fire out the window.” I opened the console and found lighters all over. Kayda purred, “Our pet is the best.” I considered my options. Eventually I told Kayda, “We will ask Josey about this emergency if it’s made up. We punch her in the face and break her fake ass plastic nose.” She muttered, “It’s less than nothing, but I would like more.” I chuckled, “Duly noted.” She huffed in my head. I parked and stalked inside. Josey greeted, “Hey early bird! You’re not supposed to be here for another five minutes.” I asked, “So, there’s no emergency?” Josey answered, “Well, we are required at the castle tonight, but I was going to tell you that when you got in. It was in your employment paperwork that night can be required during our work hours.” I nodded. When Harriah walked in I decked her. The office went deadly quiet. Kayda screeched, “SET HER ON FIRE!” I quelled the fire in my throat. I grabbed her nose, that I had broken, between my index and middle finger while she screamed. Blood poured down her face. I warned, “If you think you can bully and harass me you are quite wrong. I will report this farce to Troy. I’m sure he’ll be having a chat with your employer. Stop coming by my house. If anything comes, JOSEY will tell me because if it’s you again I’ll do what a Vampire would.” Kayda snorted, “No, we will ROAST AND EAT HER LIKE A DRAGON!” She stammered, “What do you mean like a Vampire?” I scoffed, “If a subordinate or younger Vampire did the things you’ve done to me in my few days of employment here you’d be ended.” She screamed, “She threatened to kill me! You all heard her.” Josey said, “I have some wax in my ears from a seasonal cold. I heard her tell you not to mess with her. What about you guys?” Everyone in the office nodded. I noticed one was looking at me with a s**t eating grin. I wondered what a partial Demon was doing here. She did not work here as far as I knew. I scoffed internally at myself because I’d been here once before. He could easily work here. Harriah put her finger in my face declaring, “This isn’t over.” Kayda shouted, “IF SHE GETS AWAY WITH PUTTING THAT IN OUR FACE I WILL RAGE!” I grabbed her finger and broke it. She screamed, “You psycho.” I replied, “Keep that in mind when you try to interrupt me from having s*x with a fake emergency. I’m not to be trifled with, you basic ass catty b***h. I don’t do the mean girls hazing routine. Get over yourself.” Kayda snorted, “Not to be trifled with. I like that sentence. I still want to eat her.” I assured her, “When all is said and done, you can eat her.” Kayda was happily content with that. Harriah sniffled, “Isn’t someone going to help me?” Another secretary said, “You should stop being so clumsy running into doors and tripping. It’s embarrassing.” Huh? Harriah screamed in anger and took off for her office which she slammed. Josey grabbed me and led me to a conference room. She squealed when she closed the door, “That was AMAZING!” I asked, “What’s up with the one girl talking about her tripping?” She winced, “Before Moses got her into this office she was another Vampire's favorite. She didn’t want to be a pet, but she was basically trapped until Moses stepped in.” That sounded like Moses. She added, “Harriah would see her bruises and tell her how embarrassing she was for being so clumsy around the human employees. She was covering for the abusive Vampire. The jackass wouldn’t even give any Vampire blood to heal.” I frowned, “She’s human, that would’ve taken weeks.” She nodded, “It’s why Moses got the other Vampire punished. It took him time because they don’t really care about how humans, or women in general, are treated.” I asked, “How did he do it then?” She grinned, “Well, a few humans that were concerned citizens went to the police and questions started being asked. They couldn’t have that happening.” So Moses had discreetly paid the humans to ask about her. I nodded, “I get it.” Because I really did. Kayda said, “So Moses remains non-roastable. The Vampire with that evil spawn orgasm denying b***h must go.” I agreed, “Most definitely.” I asked, “Who was the woman earlier smiling at me? I’ve never seen him before?” She answered, “Oh, she’s a pet who does errands. She’s been working his way towards the office.” I nodded. Kayda snorted, “Based on our pet’s profile, I’ll bet she works for someone in the allies.” It would be King Aiden Holloran. That was based on Melanie’s profile. I’d ask ILYX to run a probability later after I spoke to the woman. I nodded then asked her, “I had a friend who was an alcoholic, but she’s a Werewolf so we weren’t able to help her. Now though, it’s like she gets sick if she so much as sips it. She gags. Have you heard of a Vampire that can compel Supernaturals.” She whispered, “Don’t say that so loud.” So she had. I frowned, “Sorry, I was just trying to…” She waved her arms and wrote later on a piece of paper. I nodded to her. Now, the question is what that Vampire’s name was and how costly was the service. Josey whispered, “Your friends family much be rich as fuck.” I admitted, “Yeah, they are.” She nodded and we went out onto the floor. I put up my privacy shields and got into my watch. With the shields up no one could hear me. I asked, “ILYX, has Melanie got any Supernatural council documents lately?” He answered, “Lovebug has intercepted some. Here they are.” That’s not what I’d meant. I wanted to know if they knew about the Vampire that could compel people. She was all over their files, but I wondered about the paperwork. Reading it I got a sick feeling. They were after her as the white wolf. Kayda screeched, “THEY WANT TO IMPRISON OUR PET?! I WILL ROAST THEM BUILDING AND ALL!” It wasn’t going to happen. Too many people would stop it from happening. The problem with this was, they were after the white wolf from a rumor. I had always wondered if I’d gone to them if they would’ve protected me. Melanie flipped out when I mentioned that to her. Now, I know why. I pulled up the past Supernatural council documents she’d intercepted and stared at the proof before me. They’d try to contain me and when Kayda and I didn’t become their dancing monkey after torturing me they would try to kill me.” Kayda scoffed, “Unlikely they’d know steel is the only way to hurt me.” Yeah, that did seem to be the case but that would make us more interesting to them. Someone knocked on my privacy screens. I said, “ILYX, put away the documents and computers.” He agreed, “Of course, K.” Maybe I could have his voice changed to Hastein for me personally. Kayda purred, “I like that idea.” I opened my door and the woman I’d wanted to talk to came in. She greeted, “Hello, I’m Chariah. Here’s a delivery for you from the King.” I asked, “You deliver things for the King?” She answered, “I am his third’s pet. I often give the welcome gifts for new people out.” I commented, “What an honor for you.” Chariah grinned, “It’s new for me. I’ve been here for four years.” That was a long time. I hummed, “That’s a long time to be just a pet.” She shrugged, “I’m patient. Are you?” Kayda scoffed, “We are a woman of action. Waiting is my forte, K.” I answered Chariah, “I am within reason. I wouldn’t be doing the same thing for four years, no.” Chariah grinned slyly saying, “Then maybe all this is coming to an end.” Yeah, she was absolutely working for King Aiden. I asked, “Have you ever met a Fairy?” She winked, “Who hasn’t?” Uh huh. The Fairy tattoo on her arm told me she absolutely knew a Fairy and liked them enough to get a tattoo. That was a big deal for a Supernatural. I threw out, “If I mentioned I had a Supernatural friend who appeared compelled not to drink alcohol anymore, would you say that’s possible?” Chariah stared at me and I stared back. Kayda groaned, “Ugh. I was leaning towards not roasting her, but if she continues this stare off she’ll be firmly in the roast column.” As if she heard her, Chariah said, “Until recently I’d say that was all myths perpetuated around as a scare tactic for people in this state. As of a few weeks ago I’d say the person, rather man, you’d want to speak to is around in the shadows. Not one for daylight, obviously.” I snorted, “Vampires can’t be in the daylight.” She asked, “Can’t they? Or some of them, rather. Anyway, if one had that ability they would probably do their best to stay out of everything. Stirring the pot in the background only to see the light of day because it came out a group of Werewolves were compelled and that was celebrated. He probably didn’t attend that though because then his identity could get leaked. Maybe you’ll find a name. I have a gender. Other than that the man is a ghost that haunts the halls of the castle.” Kayda snorted, “Four years and she knows it’s a male that MIGHT live here and be able to do it. I would be flying and roasting everything in sight. That would get me my answers.” True. I asked, “And have you by chance seen a Werewolf by the name of Booker?” Her jaw locked, “Uh huh. He’s on lockdown and in a safehouse these days.” Kayda shouted, “HUNT HIM DOWN AND ROAST HIM!” I asked, “Why would he be in a safe house?” She answered, “He attacked me and my Vampire did not care for his favored pet being attacked. He was allowed to punish him, since the man was already in trouble, and then sent him away. He assured me he wouldn’t bother me ever again. His presence will seldom be required at the castle and my Vampire will be by my side when he is.” Damn it! That meant he’d be all but impossible to find. Kayda snorted, “Unless they have a party.” They did seem to have parties for dumb things. Chariah asked, “So, what are you doing here?” I answered, “Working.” She grinned, “Obviously. Cool watch.” I shot back, “Nice tattoo of Fairy wings on your wrist.” She glanced down and grinned then winked before leaving. I shot off an email to Troy about what went down since he should be here and copied Moses then went on working throughout the day. When darkness fell Moses flashed in. He grinned at me, “Karlee, already making things interesting.” I hugged him which I noted had several people stiffening over. He simply smiled at me. I asked, “Where’s Troy?” He answered, “He’s already speaking with the King over his people being harassed.” Troy was the most cutthroat of Charles’ children so that was going to end badly for Harriah. Moses winked, “Let’s hold over lovely ladies.” I asked, “So, who is holding your eye as of late.” He chuckled, “You’ll meet him in the car.” I snorted, “Uh no. I’ll follow because I want Troy to SALIVATE over my ride.” I unlocked it and he gasped, “NO!” He tossed the keys to Josey, “You drive my car.” He pleaded, “Karlee, light of life…” I laughed and tossed him the keys. Kayda huffed, “I suppose he can drive because he’s amusing.” She paused, then added, “Sometimes.” Lord. Moses turned on the car and yelled, “TO THE BATMOBILE.” Kayda huffed, “We are already in the damn car.” He gunned it and took off. She sighed, “He does drive fast and I do like that.” Most Vampires did. He parked and whistled, “When you’re done with this, I want it.” I laughed, “I have access to several cars. I’m sure you and Troy can duke it out for this one.” He flashed around to my door and opened it. He helped me out then waited for his own car to arrive. Once it did he opened the passenger side and I got a look at his man. I chuckled and nodded to him. He was very much Moses’ type. I held out my hand, “My name is Karlee.” He replied, “I’m Tamar.” I inclined my head and we went in. I heard Troy shouting at someone from the lobby. Several people shot me looks and I was certain they knew since I was the new girl they knew who I was. Moses said, “I’ll just go in there. You guys hang out in the workers' spots. Have a drink and get to know each other.” I chuckled and he flashed away. Tamar said, “GIIIRLLLLLLLL, you are causing a storm on day one? Automatic bestie status for you.” I laughed, “I mean it’s day two and not to be cliche but she started it. I learned a long time ago that if someone starts s**t, you end it.” He squealed and hugged me. Kayda said, “Ok, I don’t hate him either.” I teased, “You big softie.” She gasped, “Take that back! Take it back RIGHT NOW!” I bit my lip but didn’t say anything. She was sputtering now and completely aghast. Josey got us drinks from the bartender. I went for a beer so I could open myself to know it wasn’t tampered with. When a girl wandered over the bar I jolted back. I asked, “Are you ok?” Josey asked, “Who?” She gasped, “Giselle, oh my god.” Giselle whispered, “I need a stiff drink.” The bartender handed her one and mixed in blood I assumed was Vampires. Tamar was silent. I asked, “What on earth happened to you?” She winced, “I was taken by a Vampire upset about all things Ashley Griffen.” Tamar coughed, “You mean Melanie McAlister.” She winced, “Yeah, well he had bets on her fights in the undergrounds. They want her back and he lost a lot of money.” I said, “He can’t hurt you like this.” Josey sighed, “She’s a pet that likes it rough.” I scoffed, “Does she like getting beat to s**t?” Giselle answered, “No.” I looked at the bartender stating, “Then it’s protocol you report this to your King. I’m certain your pet’s dying would end poorly for you.” His eyes flared with anger but he flashed away. They all stared at me like I was crazy. Kayda said, “I may roast them all if they continue looking at us like that.” Giselle said, “Wow, thank you. Not many would do that.” I asked, “Why?” Harriah stalked over. She said, “That’s not how things work here.” Kayda took over and hit her again. She screamed. Tamar whispered, “Oh my god, I love the new girl.” I warned, “Harriah, I told you to stay the hell away from me. Just because people aren’t following the rules doesn’t mean that’s not how it works. Even lower standards, like not killing pets, have to be met. If you kill or beat a pet past what’s acceptable the Vampire Council could get called if it happened enough.”
