Bound by Blood

The steady, rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor echoed through the quiet room. The faint scent of antiseptic hung in the air, but Sienna barely noticed. Her mind was racing at full speed, spiraling into a vortex of conflict. What should I do? Her heart pounded violently against her ribs. This baby... it was conceived through horror and betrayal. Those bastards took everything from me. Wouldn't it be better to erase this stain from my life? She placed a trembling hand over her stomach. Yet, beneath the fear, a terrifying truth anchored itself in her heart: This baby is alive. It wasn't just a thought; it was a realization that shook her to her core. Though it came to me through a nightmare, it is still mine. My blood. My child. She recalled Ethan’s words from earlier. If she chose to undergo the transformation, she could rewrite the baby's destiny. She could give her child a new bloodline, a father unconnected to the monsters in her past. Was changing the baby's lineage not better than taking its life? If I become a werewolf, can I still live normally? Doubts lingered. She had known Ethan for years at university and had never once suspected his true nature. If he could navigate the human world so seamlessly, perhaps she could too. Exhaustion finally dragged her spiraling thoughts down into the darkness of sleep. In the depths of her dreams, a tearful child’s voice called out from the shadows: "Mom! Don't leave me! Please, Mom... I promise I'll be good!" Sienna's breath hitched as a little boy clung desperately to her leg, his tiny fingers grasping her pants as if she were his only anchor in the void. She reached down, trying to see his face, but he kept his head buried against her. A wave of profound sorrow and desperate love washed over her chest. "Who... who are you?" she whispered, reaching out to cradle his small head. Before her fingers could touch him, the dream shattered. Sienna jolted awake, her hospital gown clinging to her damp skin. Her chest heaved, her heart hammering wildly as the monitor's beeping spiked into a frenzied rhythm. The door burst open, and Ethan rushed inside, his sharp eyes scanning her panicked form. "Sienna! What happened?" He stepped close to the bed, his voice instantly softening. "Breathe. I'm right here. You're safe." For a long moment, Sienna stared at him, trying to steady her ragged breath. Once the lingering terror of the dream began to fade, she voiced the question that had been weighing heavily on her mind. "If I become a werewolf..." she asked carefully, her voice raspy, "do I have to marry the one who turns me and my baby?" Ethan immediately shook his head. "No. Absolutely not. You will become part of the pack, but nothing more is forced upon you. You'll follow pack laws and ancient traditions, but your personal life remains yours. It’s not as rigid as you might think." She hesitated, searching his face. "Is there an option to choose who acts as the father?" Ethan was taken aback by the question, but answered plainly. "For your baby, there is no other option but me. In our bloodline, only my father and I possess the Alpha strength required to perform the transformation ritual. And... I don't want your child to be turned by my father and legally become my sibling." Sienna let out a weak, breathy laugh. "I'm sorry, that was a poorly phrased question. Right now, I'm nowhere near ready for any romantic relationship after what happened to me. I just wanted clarity. You are one of my closest friends, Ethan, and I don't want to ruin your future. If you marry someone in the future, having me and my child bound to you might become a burden." Ethan sighed softly, looking at her with absolute sincerity. "You're overthinking. Werewolf customs differ from human ones. I will be your child's father in name and bloodline to protect you both, but nothing more. And even though you will be under my lineage, I promise I will never impose my will upon you. That is my oath as your friend." Sienna searched his dark eyes, finding only genuine warmth and unwavering devotion. Taking a deep, resolute breath, she made her choice. "Then... I want to save my baby." A reassuring smile touched Ethan's lips. "Then that's all that matters." Moments later, the door opened, and Dr. Selene Raynor walked into the room. Her golden eyes met Sienna's with quiet reverence. "Hello, Sienna," Selene greeted warmly. "Since you have made your decision, we must act immediately. Your body is growing weaker by the hour." Selene paused, her expression turning solemn. "I must ask you one last time. Are you absolutely certain? The blood ritual will alter your very soul. You will cease to be human. There is no turning back." Sienna swallowed hard, but her gaze didn't waver. "I am certain." "Very well," Selene nodded. "I strongly advise that we put you under heavy sedation. The transformation is excruciating. Your bones will fracture and reform to accommodate Alpha blood. Given your weakened state, you will likely black out from the pain anyway." Sienna shook her head firmly. "No. I want to be awake. I need to feel every second of it. I need to remember what I endured to save my child." Selene stared at her in quiet awe before bowing her head. "Brace yourself then." Selene stepped forward, securing Sienna's wrists and ankles with padded leather restraints to prevent her from injuring herself during the convulsions. She then turned to her son. "Ethan. You understand the weight of this? Once the bite is given, her soul and her child's lineage are bound to yours forever." Ethan met his mother's gaze with steadfast resolve. "I understand." "Then begin," Selene instructed. "Bite her above the heart. Execute the blood oath." Ethan stepped close to the bed, leaning over Sienna. His gaze locked onto hers. "Are you ready?" Sienna clenched her fists against the leather straps, taking a sharp breath. "Do it." Leaning down, Ethan pressed his lips against her cold skin for a fleeting second before his Alpha fangs extended, plunging deep into the soft flesh just above her collarbone. The coppery taste of her blood filled his mouth, met by the surge of his own powerful Alpha blood transferring into her veins. Instantly, Sienna’s body buckled violently against the restraints. Searing, liquid fire exploded through her veins, burning her from the inside out. Every bone in her body felt as though it were being shattered, ground to dust, and rebuilt in a blinding flash of agony. A strangled, breathless scream tore from her throat before the sheer intensity of the pain dragged her down into complete darkness.
