Chapter 10: The Witch of the Modern World

Another day, another time for dreams. I always hated going to school because of weird people in school. Why are they weird? Well for one, the whole school is head over heels for the most popular girl in the school and I meant that they are almost worshiping her as an idol or something. For that reason. I became an outcast on our school and I guess I’m the only normal person there.
My name is Alaster Michen and I hope these trashes go and trip themselves.
“You’re such an eyesore!” One of the boys from our class glares at me, “To see you next to the school idol herself!”
Yep, I sit beside the so-called school idol and that is enough to gain the attention of her followers. Such idiots.
“Then shut your damn eyes!” I retorted.
But that only resulted in them beating me. I’m already used to this kind of treatment, in fact, it doesn’t even hurt anymore.
“Let’s just leave him, he’s not worth it” A girl in their group looked at me coldly before they left.
I lied down on the ground whilst looking at the sky.
“School sucks!” I scream.
After laying down for about five minutes, I got up and picked up my backpack.
“Maybe I should beat them up for revenge?” I grin, “Nahhh, it’s not worth it to pick a fight with lunatics”
I can take on those students but I figured that it’s not worth it. If I beat up some of them then more and more annoying insects will just come to me. Imagine making enemies of the whole school, I’m not that stupid.
“Hey? You okay?” I heard Sky’s voice from behind, “Damn, they really won’t stop huh?”
“This is a small price to pay, it will be more troublesome if I pay money instead” I reply.
“What a joker, are you still broke?” He laughs.
This is Sky, a longtime friend of mine. He’s also a normal student like me but unlike me, he’s not an outcast.
“I’m always broke, maybe you can treat me some food?”
“Fine, you broke prick” He laughs again.
We walked together, exiting the school. But the front of the school is crowded and well you know it, it was the most popular girl in the school.
Charlotte Middleton, a sophomore and came from a prestigious family. If I’m correct her mother is the owner and principal of our school, I guess that explains why she’s so popular but I still don’t get it why people like her.
With the big crowd, I was only able to get a glimpse of her but in that glimpse, I saw her looking at me.
“Nahh, that can’t be true” I shake my head.
Don’t tell me I’m turning into these blockheads?
“Let’s take a detour, those people are annoying” Sky’s face turn grumpy.
We took a detour in the parking lot and fortunately, there aren’t any students staying there.
“So, where should we---“ Sky was cut off when he pushed me away.
“Damn… Why—“ My eyes widen.
A huge hole was between Sky and me. Sky was glaring at a girl floating up in the air.
The girl laughs, “My, my, how are you able to dodge that attack? Despite not being a witch?”
Now that I took a good look at the girl, I noticed that she was wearing some sort of witch costume. Is she cosplaying? What the hell is going on?
“Hey! You a cosplayer or something!? The hell you want with us!?” I point at the girl.
“Oh? I didn’t notice you there” She looks at me, “Well, I should clean you up too”
I looked at Sky and before I knew it, he was already carrying me while running away.
“What are you doing!? Are you a kidnapper?” I blurt out.
“Shut up! As if we can do something about that monster!” He replies, “I still don’t want to die yet!”
“Then drop me off!”
He drops me off and catches up his breath.
“What is that girl?” I looked around, “Wait, why there isn’t anyone here?”
“Damn…” Sky mutters while catching his breath.
The girl managed to follow us and began throwing small balls of fire towards Sky. I immediately pushed him out of the way and I closed my eyes, expecting the impact. But, it never came and when I opened my eyes, a girl is in front of me.
She turns around and I realized immediately her face, it’s none other than Charlotte. Her blue eyes shone together with the fire behind her, it was a beautiful sight. She gives me a concerned look then looks at the girl.
“Cease this!” She glares at the girl, “I won’t tolerate these kinds of things in my territory”
The girl looks surprised but reverts back to her smugly look.
“Look here, I was given orders to take back the other one at all costs” She gives Charlotte a fake smile, “Now get out of my way”
“I don’t care about your objective or orders but killing an innocent person is…” She pauses for a moment, “Unforgivable”
“Alaster! Get out of here!”
“I’m sorry… I’m leaving this to you!” I stood up and went to Sky, “Hey, are you okay?”
“Damn, that was a hard push” He says while caressing his head.
“My bad, I should have pushed you harder” I give him an evil smile and I offer my hand.
“What an evil man you are” He accepts my hand and looks at Charlotte, “Why the hell is she here?”
“I don’t know but it looks like she’s saving our a*s”
The moment I turned to the two of them, they started blasting the area around them.
“You two won’t get away!” The girl starts to create huge balls of fire in her side.
“I doubt that” Charlotte makes much larger fireballs in her side.
I began sweating from the heat of Charlotte’s fireball.
“Damn, so this is not a dream after all?” I wipe my sweat off.
“Of course not, if this was a dream I’d tell you to wake up” Sky replies.
We decided to get out of the school but when we reached the gate, we bumped into an invisible wall. I tried to push it but nothing happened.
“Now what? An invisible wall? This only happens in movies!” I exclaim.
“Dude, if this is a movie then we’ll be the side characters who’ll die!” He turns around, “Can’t you tell your protector to be lenient?”
“As if! I barely know the person and I don’t even know why she’s protecting us!”
Then a c***k appeared in the sky and an ominous feeling began to wash over us. It seems like the two girls also felt it and stopped fighting.
“This…” Sky’s eye widen, “I’m sorry, I need to go!”
Before I can say more, he suddenly disappeared without a trace.
“Now! Look at what you done!” The girl yells at Charlotte, “The possible enemy is gone!”
“Shut it, as if I would let you go on your own way” She calmly replies.
The girl was pissed at Charlotte and she grins.
“Maybe I should clean up that nobody after all--” Her voice was stone cold.
Before the girl could finish her sentence, Charlotte was already holding her neck and choking her.
“I already warned you but it looks like you like to push your luck” She tightens her grip, “Killing you won’t change anything after all”
When I heard her say those words, I felt shivers all over my body.
The girl tried to speak but it seems like Charlotte’s grip is no joke. The c***k in the sky began to spread and even the invisible wall behind me also began to have a c***k.
“Hmph, you’re quite a lucky one indeed. We’ll continue this next time” She lets go of her and lands in front of me, “Let’s go, Alaster”
She grabs my hand and we ran into the building. The sky suddenly broke like a mirror and people appeared out of nowhere.
“W-what?” I look around confusedly, “What just happened?”
“You don’t need to know… Yet” She looks at me, “Please don’t get caught up in this mess”
“What mess? I don’t understand” I give her a questioning look, “Why is the school idol a witch or some sort of being with magic?”
“It seems that your friend is involved behind the scenes, it’s best if you don’t hang around him anymore”
“You can’t tell me what to do”
She didn’t answer and gently looks at me.
“If that’s the case then I just simply need to protect you” She walks to my side, “I just need to be with you all the time”
“WHAAAAAT?!”
And just like that, I had a crazy encounter and now, the most popular girl in the school is now walking with me on the way home.
“Hey, look. Let’s just split ways here” I scratch my head.
“No” She answers without care.
“If the students from our school see us together…” I look down.
“Is that a bad thing?” She stops walking and stares at me.
“Well, you’re a popular student and I’m just a nobody. Seeing the two of us like this can ruin your reputation” I face her, “Besides, I doubt that what happened earlier will happen again”
“Reputation? I don’t have such a thing” She gives me a questioning look, “But… You’re wrong about being a nobody. You’re something important to me and to everyone”
I give her a weird look, “That kinda felt like you’re telling me that I’m some sort of a hero”
I laughed, “I never wanted to be a hero nor dreamed of becoming one, it’s just too troublesome”
“We’ll see about that soon enough…” She says and we continue walking.
We finally reached my house and she bids her farewell.
“Wait!” I suddenly call her out, “Thank you. I forgot to thank you earlier”
She smiles, “It’s my pleasure. By the way, I’m picking you up tomorrow morning”
“Huh?”
She turns around and begins to walk.
What does she mean picking me up? Are we going to school tomorrow together? Oh, god I’m gonna get killed by those blockheads! But, thinking about it, what happened to Sky?
I went inside, changed my clothes, and laid down on the bed.
Should I text him or…? Nahhh, I can just ask him at school. This day sure is crazy, to think that I would live to see someone using magic in real life. I wonder if I could also do that? It would be cool conjuring fireballs just like that girl.
My eyelids began to feel heavy and a wave of exhaustion strikes me. In a matter of seconds, I fell asleep.
The ominous feeling is back and now, it’s much worse than before. This time I can feel the despair and hopelessness washing over me, why does it feel so familiar?
Am I dreaming now?
I suddenly heard a familiar voice.
“Follow the light…The light will guide you…”
What light? There’s nothing here at all.
“She will soon come to claim her legacy once again”
She? Who is she?
“The one who rules the land and feared by the sky”
What the hell is that?
I kept asking questions but I received no visible answer.
“Beware, the being who wears a mask”
After hearing those words, I began to see a figure in the darkness. She was wearing a black dress, her eyes are shining red and she was showing no expression. She slowly began to fade and another figure began to appear in the darkness. This one was wearing ragged clothes, her hazel eyes are shining too and has the same expression as the one before.
I don’t understand, is this some sort of prophecy or something?
“Beware…Beware…”
The darkness began to consume me and everything turned dark.
