Chapter 12: The Tragedy Brought by the Misfortune

1567 Words
“Alaster, how did you know that girl will come here?” Charlotte asks me while looking at the floating girl, “Of all things we can encounter…” “Hey! Witch of c*****e! Let’s take this monster down!” The girl started creating balls of fire. The other girls also did the same, but Charlotte ignored them. “You damn witch! Are you afraid!?” The girl yells at her, “Fine, we’ll just do this ourselves!” Charlotte kept being silent and is observing the girl who is omitting a monstrous killing intent. They launched the attack and all of their attacks were combined then it exploded. However, the girl came out unscathed. “How pathetic” The mysterious girl began to speak, “I expected something more from this world but it looks like your struggles will be futile” She raised her hand and suddenly, the area around us was engulfed with flames. Charlotte used his cloak to cover for me and surprisingly, we also are unscathed. “You fool! We are fire witches! We are immune to our designated element!” “Is that so? Then how about the fire from the netherworld?” Charlotte’s eyes widened and she suddenly carried me away as fast as she could. The fire changed color and it began to feel… different. Instead of the usual hot sensation that a fire is emitting, it began emitting something more painful. “Mental and spiritual attack…” Charlotte whispers, “How unlucky for them, even ashes from those witches won’t remain” I looked at the girls who were left at the fire and Charlotte was right. They were gone and there is not even a trace at all. The mysterious girl looked at us and coldly smiled. “I can sense that you’re no ordinary and perhaps, a unique one” She begins to talk, “Now, what will you choose? Will you die mercilessly? Or will you struggle until you die?” “I wasn’t planning on dying here today and I just got a friend. Then I will choose to fight and kill you!” Charlotte suddenly was engulfed in black flames. “How admirable, is that your friend?” She looks at me, “How cute, I wonder if he can survive for a minute?” Charlotte didn’t reply to her remark and rushed into her directly instead. But, the feeling of dread is back.. Before I could even blink, Charlotte is already flying away from the mysterious girl. She slowly approaches me and her hand slowly reaches out for my neck. This feeling… It’s facing death itself and it’s happening very slowly as if it would take forever to reach me. But, before the hand could reach me, it was stopped by someone. “Arya, leave the innocent people alone” It was Sky and he’s glaring at the girl whom he called Arya. “DON’T.GET.IN.MY.WAY” She threatens. Sky didn’t budge at all and his grip on her arm becomes stronger. The girl closed her eyes and lets out a sigh. “Fine, I will let this go. However, this will be the last time. In honor of your sister” She retracts her arm and Sky lets go, “This will be the last time brother, the next we will meet, there is only me” She disappears into thin air and Sky falls down to his knees. “Where’s that monster?” Charlotte approaches us while holding her broken arm. “She… Arya… “ Sky silently answers. The sky once again was shattered like a mirror. I tended to Charlotte’s broken arm and she takes out a piece of paper from her pocket. “We need to go back to the headquarters” Charlotte looks at Sky, “That involves you as well” “I know, this is something we need to talk about” Sky replies. The paper began to shine and a bright light envelops us. When the light subsides, we found ourselves in another place. “Good thing you three are back” We are greeted by the owner of the school, Charlotte’s mother, “Lisa, attend to Charlotte’s injury” A girl in the corner of the room bows and left. “Now, while we are waiting. Tell me how you two managed to drag this innocent bystander?” Charlotte’s mother looks at me, “I believe this is the first time we met, I am Sofia Middleton and as you know it, Charlotte’s mother” “P-please to meet you” “I never intended to involve Alaster in this mess!” Sky answers, “If only you controlled your witches!” Mrs. Sofia harshly glared at Sky but he didn’t flinch at all. “Those witches died because you didn’t cooperate with us immediately” “How the hell would I cooperate with someone who’s willing to kill an innocent just to capture me?” They continued arguing and I began to feel mixed emotions. The sight of someone dying is new to me and that’s the first time I saw something that terrible. I’m even pretty surprised at myself how I managed not to break down earlier. I may think that I’m a fearless person but after seeing those kinds of things, I began to see myself as small as an ant in a huge world. “Can’t you two just shut it!?” I yell at them, “Those people died and all you do is argue?!” The room became silent for a moment and that silence is broken when the girl the owner ordered earlier came back to the room with some tools. “Mother, Alaster’s right. You too, Sky, but we need to consider what we will do from here on now” Charlotte added, “Sky, tell us what you know” Sky stopped for a second and lets out a sigh. “As you know it, I’m one of the people who ‘reincarnated’ from another world. We gained our memories through time but it was a surprise when something came along when we also reincarnated” Sky starts “What is that?” Charlotte asks. “Fal-Hel, in this world’s language it’s simply magic similar to those witches use but much more complicated and only those who are exposed to the origin can use them. Everyone who reincarnated is exposed to that power and people of this world can’t use them” “What is your relationship with that ‘thing’?” “She.. is my sister from my past life. I don’t know what happened to her but right now, she can singlehandedly create chaos and destroy whatever she wants. She wasn’t like this before!” “Then, maybe it has something to do with a grudge?” Mrs. Sofia asks, “I won’t believe that she’s acting like this for no reason at all” “I do too, but the princess of the Dargon kingdom and everyone else related to the faction of the princess is currently monitoring her. However, that is the only thing they can do because even they can’t hold a candle against her” Sky continues, “I can only propose one thing at this point to stop her” “What can you propose and how much time do we have?” “A year at most and I can contact other factions and create an alliance against Arya” “Alliance? How is that gonna help us? You said it yourself, that person can singlehandedly destroy countries” Mrs. Sofia widens her eyes, “Don’t tell me your planning to create a weapon against her?” Sky nods, “Yes, that will be the plan, but once we started it Arya will chase us to the end of the world. We need to properly plan this first before we go further.” “What kind of weapon do you have in mind?” “A weapon forged by both the past and present for the hope of future. A being similar powerful as Arya” “I will think about this, for now, stay close” Mrs. Sofia takes a deep breath, “As for Alaster, please stay close to Charlotte for now. We don’t have time to waste now” And with that, she lets us go together with Sky. “So, what’s your name back then?” I ask him, trying to change the silence. “Sebastian Van Laurent, I’m an assassin back then” He looks up, “I suddenly remembered something…” “What is it?” “I think it’s better if we didn’t remember our pasts. That way, maybe she could have a peaceful life” “Is she really gone?” I stop on my track, “I mean, is that girl, not your sister anymore?” “Honestly, I don’t know. But I’m still hoping that she’s still there. A part of me strongly hopes so…” He also stops, “I don’t know what happened to her but I think something is trying to convert her or trying to take over” “That weapon… You mean to kill her?” “…If needed then it must be done but I doubt that she will go down easily” “After all, she’s your sister, right?”
