“We’d be honoured if you’d join our team, Jamal,” said Shaw. “We interviewed twelve candidates, and you were by far the best fit, so the job’s yours, if you want it?”
Jamal couldn’t believe his ears. He’d been their top candidate out of twelve professional chefs? Was he being serious? The interview had gone really well, but he’d not thought it had gone that well, not well enough to beat eleven other chefs, anyway. The kitchen trial had been the best part of the interview; he’d followed the instructions to the letter, and had befriended the head chef, his future boss, which had obviously not hindered his chances.
