With a rush of relief, she heard the key in the door. Olivia stood to greet her sisters, who looked flustered. “Where’ve you been? We’ve only got an hour or so left to get ready.” “Don’t ask, Livvy,” replied Evelyn, “we’ve had the worst day ever.” “Let’s get a move on, then,” said Georgia, throwing her bag on her bed. Olivia wanted to ask why they’d had such a bad day, but her sisters were in such a rush she didn’t bother. She also wanted to tell them, especially Georgia, about her first kiss with Jamal too; instead she joined them in prepping for their night out. It was annoying, having to duck out of the way of the washing, which was drying on a makeshift washing line made of string tacked to the walls with nails.
