CHAPTER 2: THE OMEGA WITH MY SCENT

1107 Words
KAEL’S POV Mate? The word slammed into me like a curse Impossible My wolf growled violently. Pacing in a direction towards the girl. I hated it, for an omega? The wolves behind us moved swiftly with concern, confusion, and deceit. Every single one of them stared at the omega in disbelief. My mate. I couldn’t accept it, so I grabbed her wrist once again. This time the mark burned deeper in my chest. Deeper like fire, I ignored it. “What’s your pack?” I asked, eyes blazing with curiosity. What kind of omega could she be, there was more to the story she wasn’t telling. “The eastern territories” she said helplessly. Wrong answer. Wolves from the east were masked as inferior. How can a harmless ordinary Omega be my fate, bonding with an Alpha? No. “Who are you?” I asked her again, patience running out. “I’ve told you before,” she said. “No, you only stated your name.. who are you?” I asked again. Her eyes formed a tired red, I could clearly see she was exhausted. But then again, did it matter? “She cursed the Alpha, sorcery” A loud chant from my pack was heard. Soon, it became an anthem. “Burn her, she’s a cursed omega” they continued. “Silence!” My wolf growled. It had wanted her, to protect her, to own her. I had only met this girl minutes ago, but my wolf had wanted to tear apart anyone who would dare hurt her. They all kept quiet, one by one. “My king” Darius stood, loyal to the bone. “Could you consider this one?” He pleaded. I understood the impact, I was just as bewildered at the fact too. I was twenty-eight years old, the strongest Alpha in my bloodline. My wolf had rejected countless fearful Luna capable of becoming my mate. But to her, an omega? Yet the more I resisted, the more it snarled with satisfaction. The young girl was standing in the snow. “Why were you running?” I asked, and I didn’t believe her illusion of just stumbling on my grounds. “I had no place to go..” she kept on lying. I was infuriated. “Listen!” My wolf bloomed, glowing viciously. “Lyria right?” I asked “Do you know who I am?” She clearly does. “If you do, know I have the power to save you from these wolves” I stepped closer to her, looking straight into her deep gold eyes. “Or, I could give my word, the outcome?” I patted her hair, gently feeding through her fears. “Your death” I completed, satisfied at her paced up breathing. “I ask Lyria again, why were you running?” I asked, and this time she would talk. “My king” she stumbled flat on the cold bare floor. “I was forced, I ran away” now we were getting concrete answers. “I couldn’t marry that psychic beta, they were after me I had to run” she spilled. They? “Who are they?” I asked. “My pack, I went against them,” she said. Understandable. I understood her demise, but it didn’t explain how we mated. The pain, the sharp pain I felt close to her. As much as I tried to deny it. “My wolf already saw her as mine” Wait. That scent, I had never perceived it before. The girl smelled wrong. At first, all I could smell was an omega- soft, addictive enough to attract lesser wolves. But underneath, Something lingered. Something ancient, powerful, and familiar. My wolf suddenly went inside me, strong enough to put me on edge. The beast inside of me feared nothing Not rival Alpha’s Not war Not death. Yet it now carefully listened to the scent coming from the trembling girl kneeling before me. Interesting. I stepped closer, wolves behind me stiffening at every step I took. Fear ruined wolves. Mercy buried kings. And weakness. It destroys kingdoms. That, I was taught from an early age. “You smell strange” I said to her. “Excuse me?” Confusion leaked into her mind. “I smell it too” Darius interrupted. “Smell what?” I asked him. “Not sure” he said. That irritated me, nothing had muffled my wolves before. Nothing. “I am just an omega,” she said, beating her chest. “Denial” I said. I circled her, steadily like a predator rounding his prey. I sniffed in one more time. “You don’t smell weak,” I said. My eyes rested on her torn collar, a small crest tarnished on it. A crested-shaped mark. Even more interesting. “Omega with a crest” a laughter erupted from my lips. All this was just too funny. “Has that always been on you?” I asked, pointing towards it. Her face changed, flashing with both pride and uncertainty. “Yes, I was born with it” she answered. The laughter on my face completely disappeared. Born with it. The whole pack howled with discernment. “Alpha” Darius called me out. I raised a hand surrounding them immediately. Impossible, the mark faded slightly But that was just malicious, I could still see it. Every heir of the North knew it, it was too powerful to dismiss. Even if most pretended the stories didn’t matter. “Lyria, do you know what that symbol means?” I asked, and she seemed unbothered by all this. Or maybe ignorant. “This, it’s just my birthmark, ” she said. “Cursed” one of the wolves muffled behind me. “Alpha, the blood moon Crest” Darius said. I silenced him from speaking more with my eyes. But she heard just enough. “What?” No one answered her. The forest fell silent. Not angry or restless. But alert, with all ten toes on the ground. I took years of training, controlling the beast inside of me. But for her, it let loose. Wild, impatient. “What exactly did your family tell you about this mark?” I asked again. “Nothing,” she said. Typical lie, and a poor one. “I’m expected to believe you got lost in the North, carrying this symbol?” I asked her. “I didn't know about the North until now,” she said. Fear leaked through her, but also stubbornness. Loud whispers circled from the pack. “The owner of that mark died centuries ago”
