Morning came bright and soft, just like it always did in our house. Light spilled through the curtains while birds called outside, and the faint scent of overnight rain still clung to the air. I stirred first, stretching slowly under the covers and feeling the familiar, comforting weight of Zaire beside me. I smiled to myself, my hand instinctively brushing my belly. Right on cue, the baby moved gently with a soft kick, making me let out a quiet laugh. Zaire shifted awake next, still sleepy but alert.
