“He’s awake. He’s hungry, too.” Diana burst into tears of joy and laughed before she choked on a sob.
Neil was right in front of her in that waiting room, and he pulled her into a tight hug, and then Brad, Rodney, and Becky joined. She was surrounded by arms. She swiped at her cheeks.
“When do we get to see him?” It was Brad who asked.
“I don’t know. The doctor’s in with him now and asked me to step out. They’re examining him.”
“Well, how did he sound?” Brad squeezed her shoulders as she stepped back and took in the faces of her family: Becky, Rodney, Neil, and Andy, who was alone behind them.
“He sounded pissed. Said his head hurt. He asked if I would make him a pie.”
“Oh, way to go, Jed. First thing to ask when you wake up is for your wife to make you a pie,” Neil blurted, grinning
