Days passed peacefully within the Alpha Castle.
Too peacefully.
Kael sat in the council chamber, frowning.
"When was the last time any of you spent time with Elara?"
Darius rubbed the back of his neck.
"I haven't seen her in four days."
Lucian sighed.
"For me... it's been five."
Riven groaned dramatically.
"A whole week."
Their eyes slowly turned toward Adrian.
He was comfortably seated on a couch with Elara beside him, quietly reading a book together.
Adrian looked up innocently.
"What?"
Kael folded his arms.
"You've been stealing all of her time."
"I have not."
"You have," the other four Alphas said in unison.
Elara tried to hide a laugh.
Adrian smiled.
"She enjoys my company."
Riven rolled his eyes.
"Oh, we noticed."
Lucian stepped forward.
"This cannot continue."
"The Blood Oath binds all five of us," Kael said firmly. "If we're going to protect Elara equally... then we must spend equal time with her."
After a long discussion, they reached an agreement.
Kael would have Mondays.
Darius would have Tuesdays.
Lucian would have Wednesdays.
Riven would have Thursdays.
Before anyone could speak again, Adrian grinned.
"Then I'll take Friday and Saturday."
He slipped an arm around Elara's shoulders and gently pulled her closer.
She laughed in surprise.
"That's two days," Darius protested.
Adrian shrugged.
"I nearly died protecting her. I think I've earned them."
"You absolutely have not," Kael replied.
The room erupted into arguments.
"One day each!"
"That's not fair!"
"Give Saturday back!"
Elara covered her mouth, trying not to laugh as five mighty Alpha Lords argued over who got to spend time with her.
For the first time in years, the castle echoed with something other than war.
It echoed with happiness.
And although none of the Alphas would admit it...
Every one of them was determined to make his day with Elara the happiest one of all.
