Chapter 19 : Aftermath

548 Words
The night stretched endlessly, heavy with the echoes of what had just happened. Elena lay on the sofa, her chest still rising and falling in uneven breaths, her skin flushed with lingering heat. The city lights outside flickered like silent witnesses, but she couldn’t bring herself to look at them. Not when shame clawed so violently at her chest. Adrian sat beside her, his shirt unbuttoned, his dark hair mussed in a way she had never seen before. For once, the mask of the untouchable CEO was gone. His eyes were softer, though still burning, as they lingered on her. “You’re quiet,” he murmured, his voice husky, lower than usual. Elena swallowed hard, pulling the edge of the throw blanket closer around herself. She couldn’t meet his gaze. “I shouldn’t have let this happen.” His jaw tightened. “Do you regret it?” Her silence was answer enough. Or maybe it wasn’t. She didn’t even know herself. Every part of her body was still alive with the memory of his touch, yet her mind screamed that she had betrayed Daniel. “Elena,” Adrian said, reaching out, his fingers brushing against hers. The touch sent a shock of warmth through her, undoing her fragile defenses. “Don’t lie to me. Not here. Not after this.” Her eyes darted to him then, brimming with confusion and guilt. “I can’t do this, Adrian. I have a fiancé. I have a life—” “You have a man who doesn’t see you the way I do,” Adrian cut in sharply, his voice hardening. His hand cupped her jaw, forcing her to meet his gaze. “Do you think he could ever set you on fire like this? Do you think he could ever make you feel alive?” Her breath hitched. He was too close again, too persuasive. His words sank deep, pulling at the cracks in her heart. “Stop it,” she whispered, though her body betrayed her, leaning slightly into his touch. “Don’t make me choose.” Adrian’s thumb traced her bottom lip, his eyes dark and possessive. “I won’t let you go, Elena. Not after tonight.” The weight of his words crashed into her, equal parts intoxicating and terrifying. He wasn’t just a mistake she could erase—he was a storm she had willingly stepped into, and there would be no leaving unscathed. She tore her gaze away, standing abruptly, wrapping the blanket tighter around herself. “I need to go.” Adrian rose instantly, towering over her, his presence suffocating yet addictive. “Not like this,” he said firmly. “Not with you thinking this was something you should regret.” Her voice trembled. “It is something I should regret.” But her tears betrayed her. Adrian stepped forward, his hand catching hers, pulling her gently but firmly back into his orbit. His forehead rested against hers, his voice low, dangerous, raw. “Then regret it tomorrow. But tonight, remember that you’re mine.” Her heart pounded painfully, torn between two truths: the comfort of Daniel’s love and the wildfire of Adrian’s desire. And as Adrian’s lips brushed against hers again, Elena knew the worst of it all She was already addicted.
