Chapter 21 : The Obsession

546 Words
The week passed in a blur, but for Elena, every moment felt heavy caught between the life she had built with Daniel and the fire she had ignited with Adrian. She told herself it had been a mistake, something she would never repeat. Yet every time she closed her eyes at night, she remembered the way Adrian’s voice had lowered when he whispered her name, the way his touch had claimed her like she belonged to him. And worse she longed for it again. Adrian wasn’t any better. In his office, he was ruthless, his staff cowering at every clipped order. But behind closed doors, his thoughts circled back to one person: Elena Carter. He had tried to focus on numbers, contracts, mergers things that usually fueled him. But instead, he found himself staring at the curve of her neck during meetings, the way her fingers danced nervously across her notepad, the faint scent of her perfume lingering in the elevator long after she left. It was maddening. By Thursday night, he snapped. “Elena,” his deep voice cut through the silence of the office as she typed at her desk, long past hours. She jumped slightly, looking up. “Yes, Mr. Blackwell?” The formality stung him, but it only fueled his hunger. He stepped closer, his presence towering, his eyes locking onto hers with unyielding intensity. “Stop pretending,” he said quietly, though his voice carried an edge that made her breath catch. “Pretending?” she echoed, her fingers frozen above the keyboard. “That nothing happened. That you don’t think about it every second like I do.” He leaned down, his hand pressing against the desk beside her, caging her in. “You burn for me, Elena. Don’t deny it.” Her heart slammed against her ribs. Heat flushed her cheeks, but she forced her voice steady. “This… this can’t continue. I have Daniel” “Daniel,” Adrian spat the name like it was poison. His jaw clenched, his eyes dark. “Does he touch you the way I do? Does he make you tremble just by looking at you?” Her lips parted, but no words came out. Adrian’s hand slid to her wrist, his grip firm but not painful, his thumb brushing over her pulse. “You belong to me now. And the more you try to fight it, the deeper I’ll pull you in.” “Adrian…” His name slipped from her lips, half warning, half plea. “Say it again,” he growled, his forehead nearly touching hers. “Say my name when you can’t breathe, when you can’t think, when you can’t stop wanting me.” Elena’s body betrayed her. Her knees weakened, her pulse raced, and despite every rational thought screaming at her to push him away, she whispered, “Adrian…” His eyes closed for a moment, as if savoring the sound. When they opened again, the hunger in them nearly devoured her. “I’ll have you again, Elena. Soon. And nothing not your guilt, not your fiancé, not even your fear will keep me from you.” Her breath caught in her throat, a mix of dread and anticipation. Because deep down, she already knew He was right.
