Ava’s POV:
The coach came to an abrupt stop, shaking me awake. “What is it?” I asked while he seemed to zone out as if he was paying attention to something else, when suddenly we began to hear growls. My heart started to pound, staring wide-eyed at Axel for an answer of any kind.
“Stay in here. You’ll be safe.” He ordered with a worried look. “I’ll be right back.” He said, leaving the coach where the growls only got louder and nastier. I could hear crashing, thudding, snapping, and crackling along with yelping, snarling, and more growling. There were wolf screams that made my heart drop. I couldn’t help but be scared for him.
The coach door was being flung open by a man that I didn’t recognize. His canines were out, black eyes, and claws extended. As his cold eyes fell on me, he snarled, reaching out, making me react and kick him in the face as hard as I could. He grabbed my leg, sinking his claws into my skin as I let out a gut-felt scream while he tried to drag me out. I reached out for anything to grab from being taken out of the coach, kicking him, as I felt the skin on my leg being torn deeper apart shooting pain through my entire body, making me lose my grip. I was swiftly thrown out of the coach.
To be honest, I was a little relieved because he finally released the painful grip he had on my leg when he sent me flying to the ground. Glancing around, we were surrounded by several wolves battling to the death. Blood was everywhere. The man stalked me along with 3 other wolves snarling as they slowly approached me.
My heart raced and before I could process anything, I was up and running further into a forest area away from the road in the opposite direction of Axel being chased down by wolves. I just needed to buy some time until Axel could get to me. The wolves were playing with me, their food, as I ran on a limp leg that was slowing me down considerably. They were taking their sweet ass time chasing me as if to make the hunt more exciting.
Eventually, I realized they were leading me somewhere, but every time I tried to change direction, they would force me back in the same direction. This is bad. As the trees began to clear I noticed I was running straight for a cliff. They were trying to back me into a corner, those sick f***s. s**t, I don’t have anywhere to go, but down. I turned around looking at the wolves as the man from before let out a poisonous laugh.
“You were fast little one, but not fast enough.” He stalked me as he approached closer.
“I should thank you.” I said, casually glaring at the man while my heart continued to thunder.
“Oh, and why’s that?” He asked, surprised by my cool and calm composure that I forced myself to show on the outside.
“My bloody leg hurts like a bitch.” I said sarcastically, making the man laugh.
“No wonder you’re his Luna. To bad, we can’t allow you to live, or I would claim you for myself.” He launched himself forward midway, turning into his wolf as he lunged toward me.
“Axel!!!!” I screamed. Then, all of a sudden, Axel had the man’s limping body in his jaw, flinging it to the ground. What just happened? Axel placed his giant wolf in front of me, blocking my view completely. Damn this massive wolf. The others are not even half his size.
Right when it looked like we were going to make it out alive, a beautiful white-haired beauty with blood-red eyes stepped forward from the shadows. I doubt she could see me because I could barely see her.
Axel’s POV:
Smelling my mate's blood, I raced through the forest after my mate as my heart thundered. ‘Moon Goddess please let our mate be alive.’ I prayed, pushing myself faster and faster.
‘If you had let me mark her, we would know if she’s still alive.’ Hades whimpered.
‘Do you want her to hate us?’ I thought sarcastically.
‘… We have to save her.’
Finally, I could see Ava and a man talking, surrounded by wolves, but still too far away to actually hear anything. Right as I made it to the clearing the man had turned into his wolf and lunged for Ava.
“Axel!!!!” Ava screamed. I leaped forward, plunging my teeth into his neck mid jump, snapping his neck like a ragged doll as I flung his now limp body to the ground. Using my giant wolf body, I stanced myself in a protective manner, blocking Ava from the rogues view. There were now 8 more rogues surrounding us. This is bad. Normally, 10 wolves wouldn’t be a problem for me, but… I can’t protect Ava and fight 10 wolves at the same time.
‘Ace?’ I mind-linked.
‘Yes, Alpha.’
‘You guys almost done over there?’
‘We still have our hands full. The rogues keep coming in waves.’
‘As soon as you can, get to the forest until you get to a cliff. You should be able to see me and Ava.’ I ordered.
‘Yes, Alpha.’
I growled fiercely, using my Alpha power to make the rogues submit when a witch came forward from the shadows. I could feel her intense power as I looked into her glowing red eyes. The rogues all stepped outside in a show of respect for her.
‘This is really, really bad!’ Hades growled.
‘Ace, GET HERE NOW!’ I ordered mind-linking him.
‘Yes, Alpha.’
“King Axel, what a surprise meeting you here?” The witch grinned.
“Witch!” I snarled. “Why are you here? Are you controlling the rogues?”
“It’s not in my nature to control people.” She scoffed, offended.
“WHY ARE YOU HERE?” I said in a deadly cold voice. My eyes turned black.
“Heard you found a Luna and that you were coming this way with only a few guards.” She said as my eyes grew big. “Looks like someone has a snake in his mists.” She cackled.
“Who?!” I ordered.
“Seems like your new Luna has made a few enemies.” She grinned maliciously.
“Your lying.” I seethed.
“Aren’t you going to introduce me to your Luna?” She asked innocently. “Or are you going to continue to hide her?” She said bored.
“STAY AWAY FROM HER!” I threatened.
“So overprotective.” She raised her hands all dramatically. “Is she really that weak?”
“Your fight is with me!”
“Did I hear right that she’s an Omega?” She teased.
“Your fight is WITH ME!” I repeated.
She sighed. “It doesn’t matter because killing you would be a huge win for our queen.”
“I have no quarrel with Sonja.” I said, confused, referring to the queen of witches.
“Hahaha, that old hag. I wouldn’t do s**t for that bitch.” She wiped a tear away from laughing so hard. “For the rogue queen, we would do anything.” Her eyes flashed a shade of blood.
