Ava’s POV:
“LET ME OUT OF HERE!! AXEL!!!” I banged on the door in full rage mode. “You can’t keep me locked up in here forever!!” “Axel, I swear to god!!!” “AXEL!!!!”
It’s been 2 days since he locked me up in this room. It’s a nice room, but still … just no! I tried running away shortly after speaking to Tonya… and well…, he caught me red-handed. I was lucky he didn’t go through with his threat of tying me up and marking me on the spot. He was still pretty upset…, more like furious. In many ways, I feel super guilty about it and I know what I did was selfish, but I need to be free; free to be myself, now and always.
I huffed, plopping myself on the bed. “Stupid Man!” “I just want to go home…,” I mumbled softly as tears slowly rolled down my cheek. “I want my laptop. I want my phone and I want Ice cream. I want my mom to tell me everything’s going to be okay.” A small sob escaped my lips while I hugged a pillow tightly to my chest. I wiped my tears away when I heard a knock at the door. “Come in.”
“You must be Ava.” A tall handsome man came walking in with a tray full of food. He had blond hair and emerald green eyes. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Luna.” He bowed. “I’m Alpha Axel’s, Beta. My name’s Ace.”
“I suppose your not going to help me escape.” I looked at the window longingly.
He frowned. “Sorry Luna. Axel would have my head on a spike.”
“Axel…”, I muttered.
“You’ll go bald if you keep stressing over things you can’t control,” he said jokingly.
I looked up at him surprised. I didn’t expect him to make a joke at a time like this. “Axel would probably be bald in no time then.” We both laughed.
“I’m surprised he’s not bald already with all the trouble you’ve been causing him.” He sat down near the bed setting the tray of food on the desk.
“It’s his own doing.”
“Where are you from?”
“A different world.” I smiled.
“Fine, don’t tell me. I’ll just guess.” He said, thinking I was being stubborn. “The vampire kingdom maybe? No. How about the witches kingdom?... No? I knew it was a boat, in the Mermaid Ocean!”
“No. It’s good to know that vampires, witches and mermaids exist though.” I smiled. “I lived on a farm with my family. I was raised believing your kind was a myth. A completely human society.” I explained.
“I haven’t heard of such a place. Tell me about your family.”
“My mom is a sweetheart. My dad died when I was young, but my mom ended up marrying again, to my stepfather. He’s a pretty okay guy. I have two younger brothers. Leon is 17 and Brisk is 5. My older sister, Ayah, is 24. My siblings and I are super close. Well… we were. I miss them so much.”
“Were?”
“It’s nothing…,” I looked out the window. “I slept in, until 3 in the afternoon that day. My mom had to threaten to have my brothers flip my mattress if I didn’t get up but knowing Leon, I bet he would’ve splashed cold water on me.” I chuckled.
“Sounds like your brother and I would get along.” He grinned.
“Maybe…” “He’s a bit of a smarty pants and his dance moves are proof of that.” I laughed. “When he would dance, I’d pretend I didn’t know him if there were people around. It was so embarrassing.”
“Hahaha, I’d like to see that.”
“Ayah, my older sister, was always pulling pranks on me. I saw this girl one time, who had the most beautiful tan skin and I wanted to be like her. So, I asked my sister how I could get tan. She told me to put mayo all over my body and then sit out in the sun for hours.”
“What’s Mayo?” He asked, confused.
“It’s a creme that you put in a sandwich that if left out in the sun a long time, it ends up smelling really bad. It also doesn’t help your skin tan. I sat out for weeks in the sun before my ma finally told me that what I was doing, wasn’t a thing. I smelled so bad.” I laughed, remembering that horrid smell. “I’ve only been talking about myself. What about you? Do you have a mate?”
He laughed. “It’s okay, Luna. I do have a mate. Alpha Jason’s sister, Bethany, is my mate. She’s truly wonderful. I can’t stand Jason or most of her family, but she isn't like them. I think you guys will get along great.” He blushed like a little boy in love.
“If she’s anything like you, I’m sure we will get along great.” I said as someone else knocked on the door. “Come in.”
“Ava?” Tonya walked in holding some sort of deep blue velvet fabric. “Beta Ace.” She bowed.
“Tonya, what is it?” I asked.
“Alpha Axel, asked me to get you ready for this evening.” She explained as Ace growled.
“Address her properly!” He scolded Tonya.
“I’m sorry...” Tonya began.
“Ace stop it.” I said sternly. “Tonya is my friend. She can address me however she wants,” I explained.
“So, I can call you Luna? And bow?” Her face peaked up.
“No. No, you may not. It’s Ava to you. And my friends don’t bow to me.” I explained, shutting down her odd amount of happiness by calling me Luna.
“Oh, dear.” Ace, face palmed himself. “You are to be queen, so it’s important people address you appropriately. In private is one thing, but I insist in public for you to be addressed by your status.” He tried compromising.
“Fine.” I agreed, knowing that both Ace and Axel would give me a hard time on the subject. I also didn’t want to put Tonya in a difficult position, so I agreed.
“Thank you, Ava.” She smiled. “You’ll make a wonderful Luna.”
“I guess that’s my cue to leave.” Ace said, making me giggle. “Have fun lady’s.”
“Yes, the torture begins.” We all laughed as Ace exited the room.
“I’m so excited about dressing you up!!” Tonya said, bouncing up and down.
“Hahaha, this is definitely something I didn’t miss.” I walked over, grabbing the dress from Tonya.
It was beautiful. It had a gorgeous golden western floral embroidery pattern around the edges of the neckline that scooped down, holding my breast tightly together. The Sleeves also, had gold embroidery but only where it cuffed around just above my elbow. The dress gripping around my waist flowed all the way to the ground and passed my feet like a wave of dark blue in the depths of the ocean.
Tonya began applying makeup to my face, swirling a makeup brush into a small container of red power. She lightly applied a small rose tint to my cheeks. She gave me smoky eye shadow to make my golden green eyes pop, following with eyeliner and mascara. Lastly, she used matted ruby red lipstick.
Brushing through my long red wavy hair, Tonya was careful to untangle any knots. She intricately started to place strands of my hair in a pattern of a waterfall braid, letting my hair fall to my shoulder blades while carefully curling the tips.
After a few hours of torture, she exclaimed, “You are stunning!”, taking a step back, staring at me, up and down. “Give me a spin!” She clapped bubbly, as I circled around, holding the front of the dress up just above my ankles.
“Thank you,” I chuckled. “Do you know where I am going this evening?”
“The Alpha’s and the Luna’s will be attending a dinner hosted by King Jason. It’s also kind of your unofficial introduction.” She explained, fidgeting with her hands a little worried. “Ava, you should be careful. The politics of this world are harsh to outsiders.”
“Tonya, don’t worry. I got this.” I smiled as Axel walked into the room, stopping dead in his tracks, staring at me in Awe.
“Wow, your gorgeous…” He muttered under his breath as Tonya quickly scurried away, leaving him and I alone. “I’m glad to see you in a better mood.”
I smiled, and without a word walked up to him casually before using all my force to throw a full fisted punch to his left cheek. He stumbled back surprised and then stepped forward, slowly turning to rage. He grabbed my wrists and held them above my head, slamming my body against the wall. “Let me go.” I glared. Honestly, it's his fault for locking me up for 2 days.
“That is the last time you raise your hand to me.” He said coldly as his eyes started to turn black. “Do not forget your place.”
“MY PLACE!?!” I scoffed, disgusted with him. “Who do you think you are to tell me what I can and can’t do?! You locked me up for 2 DAYS! You don’t own me!”
“I am the Alpha King of All Alpha’s! YOU ARE MINE!” He roared, squeezing my wrists tighter. “I WILL MARK YOU IF YOU KEEP DEFYING ME!” He threatened.
“Don’t. You. Dare!”
“I’m being extremely patient with you. Most mates mark each other within seconds of meeting, but I have been trying to give you time. If you keep testing me, I won’t give you any more time.” He said in a deadly voice. “We’re running late already. You better behave yourself.” He said, releasing me.
“Then don’t piss me off.” I smiled, sticking my tongue out at him while quickly escaping the room before he could get angry with me, where I was happily greeted by his Beta, Ace.
“What did you do?” He said, staring back at a very pissed off Alpha, making me chuckle a little.
“Nothing he didn’t deserve.” I said passively, turning my head to the side as Axel walked up.
“Take my arm.” He commanded. I did as he requested and placed my hand gently on his bicep as he escorted me to the dining room. “Ace, see that preparations are made for us to leave, back to our territory after tonight’s events.” He ordered.
“Yes, Alpha.” Ace bowed, leaving.
“Wait, what?!” “I’m not going with you, am I?”
“Yes.”
“No, you can’t just force me to come along with you!”
“These are your choices. One, you can choose to leave with me, or I’ll throw you over my shoulders and drag you back with me.”
“This isn’t over.” I whispered as we entered the dining room. Everyone stood up and bowed respectfully.
“Thank you everyone.” Axel began speaking. “As you all know, I have found my mate and Luna, Ava Small. Please do your best to make sure she feels welcome.” He said, introducing me.
“Hi.” I said awkwardly. To be honest, I was a bit nervous. I was even squeezing Axel's arm for dear life, afraid I would faint from the spotlight. I hated to rely on him, let alone admit it, but I felt rather comfortable around him. I even trusted him to some degree.
“It’s an honor, Luna,” King Jason greeted. I had never spoken to him before, but I would see him around since he is the king of the New Moon castle. “This is my mistress, Rava.” He introduced.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Luna.” She smiled, not recognizing me.
“We’ve already met,” I said flatly.
“We have?” She said, confused. “I don’t think I would’ve forgotten such a rare beauty.”
“I’m the ugly hag that should’ve crawled back up into the b***h that gave birth to me and died.” I smiled as her face went pale. I know I didn’t have to publicly humiliate her, but I couldn’t help but give her a taste of her own medicine. She’s horrid to the help. This should teach her a lesson to think twice before judging a book by its cover.
“WHAT!?!” Axel roared. “She said that to you?!”
“It’s okay sweetheart. She didn’t realize who she was speaking to.” I smiled, planting a kiss on his cheek, causing him to stiffen up. “Plus, I forgive Mistress Rava.” I smiled innocently.
“Thank you, Luna.” She said rather forcibly.
“If it’s alright with Ava, I will overlook it.” Axel said, guiding me to my seat at the table.
“You are quite a beauty. Even among these women, you stand out.” An older gentleman, possibly in his late 50’s or early 60’s, spoke. “I’m King Derrick of the Blood Moon Pack.” “You would’ve done nicely in my harem.” He looked me up and down with his disgusting eyes as Axel growled.
“Hahaha, I highly doubt that.” I half joked, placing my hand lightly on Axel's hand, calming him down. Skin to skin contact seemed to calm him down considerably. I understood that I was being tested by everyone present with only Axel on my side, so I was going to need to show these kids that I was not one to be messed with. Axel also seemed to understand that this was something I needed to do on my own.
“You gave us quite a surprise the other day. We thought Omega’s went extinct centuries ago.” Another king spoke. I figured they would go there; trying to point my rank in their political power chain. They’re trying to dominate me, by saying I’m the weakest among them. “A sad breed, really.”
“And yet, even as an Omega, she overpowered you Jeremy.” A young boy with scruffy dirty blond hair said, surprising me. King Jeremy coughed and glared at the boy intently, sending daggers at him.
“And what might your name be?” I smiled gently.
“…Tom…” He blushed shyly. “Tom Black of the Snow Moon Pack.”
“How old are you?” I asked.
“13, but I’ll be 14 in 3 months.”
“I see. You seem very wise for your age.” I praised, making him turn beet red.
“Thank you, Luna…” He mumbled.
“And here, I thought Tom wasn’t interested in girls.” Jason laughed. “Careful Tom, Axel might kill you.” He joked while Axel glared daggers at Tom, who was completely embarrassed.
“Ignore him Tom.” I glared at Jason. “I have a feeling we are going to become good friends.”
“Why don’t you tell us where your from?” A gorgeous woman with curly brown hair asked, sitting next to Jeremy.
“She was a kitchen maid,” Rava said, grinning.
“Oh, I see.” The woman said suddenly, wearing a disgusted look. “Even with lowly origins, I’m sure you have some redeeming qualities.”
“Kayla,” Axel threatened.
“It’s okay, Axel. Their welcome to say what they want.” I smiled innocently. “Kayla, is it?”
“Yes.” She nodded.
“Rava is right. I worked as a kitchen maid for the castle of New Moon, but as for my origins, she knows nothing. And my redeeming qualities are that I am, my own woman, a force of nature. I don’t need someone to kiss my feet. I don’t need someone to tell me what to wear. And I don’t need someone to tell me Who To BE.” I said with a strong voice and all the confidence in the world. I glanced at Axel, to see him looking at me with adoration, as if he was proud to be seen with me. It made my cheeks burn.
“Rava, Kayla, this is My Luna and You WILL Respect Her.” Axel commanded with an overbearing amount of pressure that even I could feel.
“Forgive us, Luna.” They said in unison, submitting to Axel's Alpha. I nodded, accepting their apology.
“Luna, I’d like to introduce myself and my mate.” A man that looked to be in his thirties with brown hair and grey blueish eyes asked. “I’m Alpha Lucas of the Daylight Pack and this is my mate, Cheryl.” He said lovingly. She was stunning, dark skinned with plush lips and straight black hair that fell to her shoulders. Unlike the others, she genuinely had kind brown eyes that peaked with curiosity.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you both.” I smiled. “Is there something you wanted to ask Cheryl?” I asked, making her blush.
“Umm… your hair is so red. Are your family members as beautiful as you?” She asked shyly, making me laugh.
“They are, but I’m the only one with red hair. You know your quite the beauty yourself.” I commented.
“Thank you.” She hid a little behind Lucas’s arm. She’s so cute.
“Cheryl, I think we’re going to be great friends.” I smiled warmly, surprising her and Lucas.
The rest of the dinner consisted of small chit-chat and a few insults either mainly from Kayla, Derrick, Jeremy, or Jason. But for the most part, I really quite enjoyed meeting Cheryl, Lucas, and Tom. The other Alphas also introduced themselves and their mates or mistresses. Many of them were either respectful or wary of my presence, though very few were actually rude. I have a feeling that if Axel wasn’t here, things would’ve gone very differently.
