Chapter 4

1230 Words
“Are you serious about this, Diego?” His cousin, Alexander slammed his fists against the table as he glared down at Diego who was seated behind his desk looking seriously unbothered by the fact that his older cousin was throwing a tantrum before him presently. “You want me to let that man go after he took files of properties worth over a hundred million worth of assets?” “And whose fault is it in the first place, Alexander Santiago?” Diego lifted his gaze, meeting Alexander's coldly. “If you complain about my decision one last time, I'll have you pay every dime for your insolence.” “Tch. I'm sorry.” Alex spat, frustrated. He had heard from his men who were with Diego that he got the man's daughter and now he was planning on doing what? Canceling her debt?! He just couldn't believe it. “Why are you here? If that's the only reason, f**k off.” Diego snarled, turning his attention back to the papers he was going through. “I got the information you wanted on the Chelsea shares and once we give him everything I've prepared, we'll be able to secure a means to launder through him.” Alexander explained, sitting nonchalantly before Diego who didn't even bat an eyelid. “Okay.” He replied. “Also, aunt Miana should be arriving around now.” Alexander said with a bright smile and at the same time, the phone on Alexander's desk rang out. “I told you to take care of her, Alexander.” Alexander quickly raised his hands in his defense to prevent his cousin's wrath. “She threatened to kill me. You should know your mother better than anyone else in this situation.” “Madam is here to see you, Don.” The person on the other side of the phone said as calmly as she could and the door was sung open, leaving a woman standing on the other side. Her golden brown hair with a few streaks of white was beautifully swept to the side while she was dressed in a beautiful red gown, kissing her curves which was much sharp for a woman of her age. She still had her black coat draped over her shoulders which was one thing that Diego knew about his mother's fashion. There was always a coat to match but right now, he didn't care. “I told you to stay out of my business, mother.” “How long do you intend on rotting here faking all this, Diego. It isn't technically fake since everyone knows about our family and all your companies so instead of sitting in one of these entertainment companies, why don't you extend the Santiago borders out of this confined place.” His mother's silk and refined voice filled his ears as she made her way to one of the couches in the room, comfortably sitting. “You could get yourself a woman whose family is willing to merge their territory with yours–” “The least thing I appreciate is your noisiness mother. So instead of coming all the way here for that, why don't you stop bugging me.” He said through gritted teeth, glaring at Alexander who was smiling nervously. “Yo, aunt Miana!” “Alexander.” she acknowledged before turning to her son who was back to acting like there was no one present in the room. “Diego, I heard about the trouble Alexander caused so have you made an example from that man?” “I'm not planning on doing that.” “What?” She looked stunned but at the same time irritated. “He did something against the Santiago family so the only right thing is for him to be beheaded. Your father would have never let this slip if it happened during his reign.” “That's why there's a lot of them trying to do it during mine and I think I've made an example out of people enough. Those who try it again are just daring and I doubt there's been anyone who has tried it since the first month I got into power. And it is now my business to handle, mother. So stop meddling and just go drink some wine with Aunt Miranda and her friends.” “How can you talk to your mother this way, Diego? You didn't just refuse to give that man a proper punishment even though you can easily find him, you also kept his daughter? What exactly do you want to use her for if you're no longer interested in the father?” She tilted her head to the side in curiosity. This was the least attitude she expected from him who did everything according to his own rules and made sure anyone who defies him suffers. Diego didn't say a word and focused on what was in front of him, ignoring his mother completely and she seemed totally pissed about this. “I am talking to you, Diego Santiago. I want you at the family dinner this weekend and I'll be introducing you to one who could potentially be your future bride. I want to see the Santiago territory expand two times the amount your father made it expand during my lifetime. Do you understand me, Diego?” “If you're done, please leave. Same goes for you. Alexander Santiago.” “But what about the money and the girl, Diego? She should at least be able to pay back the money if we can't find Lance.” Alexander said, having a concerned look but all he got was a glare. “I expect her to lure him out of hiding anyway.” Diego replied calmly, swiveling his chair to turn away from the two intruders in his room. “I wonder what she's doing right now?” He thought, a smile dancing on his lips as his tongue flicked over the bruise from her bite earlier in the morning but he wasn't complaining. Back in Diego's mansion, She had just stepped out of the shower when she saw her phone vibrating. She walked over to the name which put her in this situation flash across her screen. “What do you want from me this time?” She asked, her tone harsh and firm. “Don't talk to me however you want now young lady. I have to leave the country and you will help me with it. Understood. I should be back soon so I'll contact you where to send me all the money I'll be needing.” Her father's voice came with a low hiss. “What do you think I am? A money dispensing machine? Do you have even a hint of conscience, father? I am here trying to do everything I can to live a free life while you keep bounding me in this shackles. What did I ever do to you to deserve this from you?” She snapped, tears streaming down her cheeks but she knew it wouldn't solve anything no matter what. “Do you think I care, Theodore Isabella? Just get as much money as you can from anywhere, I don't care. Meet who I'll be sending to Hike street tomorrow with everything.” Without another word, he hung up, leaving her trembling there.
