Frantically, Joe raced to Burger World, panting and gasping and driving himself onward. His head still thundered from the hangover, and his eyes were sore and burning. Halfway to the restaurant, he got a horrible cramp in his right side and had to clutch the painful stitch and grit his teeth to keep going. It was sunny and warm outside, a pleasant day, and many people walked along the sidewalks, going about their business. Some of them stared curiously at Joe as he whipped by in his garish outfit, but Joe was too involved in his desperate race to notice or care. He finally reached the restaurant and plunged through the doors, stumbling breathlessly inside.
