I woke up the next day, I didn't sleep well that night. Even after I was done crying. The whooshing of the rain made me use the blankets to cover my head alongside with the pillow.
I couldn't fall asleep until midnight, when the rain finally settles into a drizzle.
Fog was all over my window I'm the morning . I couldn't see the sky's at all; it was like a cage. I could fell the phobia in my spirit creeping up one
I went downstairs to greet my dad good morning. He kissed me on the forehead as I sat on the dining chair. He made breakfast this morning. We ate and chatted for a while. He wished me good luck at school as he was already on his way to work. I thanked him for the wishes, then he left for his police station as he already took that as his wife and family.
After he left I sat on the table and examined the kitchen. I said to myself " nothing changed". My mother had painted the cabinets 19 years ago in an attempt to bring light to the house. Over the small fire place in the adjourning handkerchief sized family room was a row or pictures. First was a weeding pic of Charles and my mom in Los Angeles and a picture of me at the precession of my school pictures. " Those pictures were embarrassing to look at " I said to myself. I would tell Charles to change the position of these pictures or he can put them somewhere else.
I realized something real quick. I asked myself. " has dad not gotten over mom?" I felt uncomfortable by this thought. After all these years the pain of mom's death was still in his heart. I shook my head.
Going to school early wasn't my thing, But I couldn't stay in the house anymore so I decided to pick up my jacket as I went out in the rain.
I went outside in the drizzling rain to where my trosport truck car was parked. I stood still in the rain beside my car with my mind full of admonishment. I loved the car more.
I got inside my car, it was dry and nicer. I knew Charles would clean it up, but the seat and steering still smells of alcohol and gas. I inserted the key into the ignition and to my greatest surprise, it started just immediately with a loud noise which fainted slowly and decreased in pitch . I drove off to school!!!
Finding the school wasn't a difficult task for me actually, dad's description made it more easier for me I speed up on the runway. Only the sign Beaumont High School made me stop. Wow!!! I said to myself "so what I have heard and saw so far where true" The buildings were so much taller than I expected. There were so many trees and shrubs in the school compound. I could now feel the institution. I wasn't surprised at the rest of what I saw because I already searched on tbe school.
I parked my car where I could easily get reach of it. I stepped unwilling out of the car and walked down a little. I took a deep breath and opened the office door. The office was a nice office, a little waiting area with padded folding chairs, a big clock ticking loudly. I met a man he was wearing a Blue t-shirt, he looked up at me. " How may I help you?"
Good day, "I'm Elena Scot" I told him as I saw awareness in his eyes like he has been expecting me. "You must be Charles's daughter right? welcome". he took me in to sit.
He went through some files on his desk then he found what he was looking for." I have your information here and everything that would help you concerning the school" I took that from him. "Here is a map it will help you identify places you need to get to". He took me to my classes, he also told me the best route to take on the map he gave to me. lastly, he smiled at me and said "Have a nice time at our school". Then I nodded convincingly and he left.
I went back to my car. Then other students were starting to arrive. I drove round the school. I was glad to see that most of the students car were older like mine .I scoffed. I looked at the map in my car and I was trying to put it in my head. I was expecting to see cars like Benz and the likes, but what I saw was otherwise. I kept on trying to memorize the map that was given to me by Mr.Robertson , because I wouldn't have to walk around with it all day. I took all my stuffs in my bag and went along with the students. I stopped to take a huge breath",I can do this" I said to myself. I exhaled and kept my face back into my hoodie. As I walked to the sidewalk, crowded with teenagers, all that was on my mind was if I stood out among everyone. I went to my classroom, this was the part were my heart raced because I would be noticed quickly.
The classroom wasn't wider than I expected. I could see students hanging their coats on a hook so I joined them to do the same. I saw two girls; a blonde, and the other was pale with brown hair.
I took the slip which was given to me by Mr.Robertson to the teacher to sign it. The teachers name was Mr.gills. He was a fat man with bald hair. He sent me to an empty seat at the back without any formal introduction to my classmates. My seat was right at the back, so no one could easily glance at me. But, somehow they do which kept me paranoid. The teacher instructed us to read some of the books which was given to us. So, I began to read till I read everything. The memories of my mom when I was 4 came back to my head. I was lost in my thoughts, then the teacher called my name which. brought me back to reality. "Elena Scot!!!" "sir" I replied. with my heart racing, the stare which I have been trying to avoid later occured that day.
The bell rang, oops. A boy with red-hair came to talk to me.
"you're Elena Scot, aren't you?" He looked at me like he needed help.
"yeah" I answered him politely.
Everyone closer to me turned to look at me.
"Where's your next class?" he asked.
Um, I forgot coincidentally so I checked my desk and saw it was Biology so I responded.
"Biology" with Mr. Clinton.
"I'm headed towards building 8, I could show you the way.. I can be so much helpful" "I'm Bryan" He added that to his statement.
I smiled tentatively, "thanks"
I took my jacket and went out into the rain. It should be an everyday rain now in Beaumont I said to myself. I could remember when I used to love the sun but now the rain ."gosh, life's complicated". On our way, several people at our back were trying to eavesdrop to our conversation.
"So why did you choose to come to BHS?" A short form for Beaumont High School. He asked.
"Well I came back to live with my dad because initially I stayed with my aunt at fawn creek so he already got me registered here and I have no other options" I said.
"Ohkay" He wondered
"What about your mom" He asked
This question brought a sudden shock to my heart as I developed difficult in breathing.
I told him "she passed away when I was almost 5"
He told me that he was so sorry for bringing such memories back to me.
Finally we got to my class. Bryan walked me to the door. He was happy.
"good luck" he said to me as he opened the door wide so I could get into the class
I smiled at him vaguely and he said "we could have some other classes together today" He sounded hopefully.
