I needed a distraction, anything to take my mind off this mess. Reaching the kitchen, I found Matildah wiping the counters, humming softly to herself. Her peacefulness was a stark contrast to the storm raging inside me. “Matildah, could you tell Amy to come to my room later?” I asked, my voice more controlled than I felt. Matilda looked up, giving me a warm, motherly smile. “Of course, Luna. Is everything alright?” I nodded. “Yes.” She gave a small nod, going back to her cleaning. I left the kitchen and made my way back to the bedroom, once inside my room, I closed the door behind me and walked toward the walk-in closet, as if organizing my clothes would somehow help organize my thoughts.
