“You need to let me go, Nicholas," I implored. His grip tightened. "I won't, Wendy." "Please," I whispered desperately. "Just let me go." “No. Never.” Frustration bubbled up within me, and I resorted to a series of sharp slaps on his shoulder. "For God’s sake, Nicholas," I snapped. "Let go of me!” Nicholas, who had been holding me tightly against his chest with his face buried in my neck, irritatingly still muttered his refusal.
