I woke late, cuddled up to Sam. He must have snuck in last night while I was asleep. I smiled at the thought of this tall, muscular man unable to sleep without being near me and tip toeing into my room. I extracted myself from his arms as carefully as I could. He was still fast asleep. Once up I quickly brushed my teeth, threw on some jeans and a t-shirt and ran a brush through my hair. I shoved my books back into my backpack and tip toed across my room and out the door. Just as I was softly closing the door, Kyle came out of his room down the hall. He smiled at me but before he could speak I held up a finger to my lips, signalling for him to be quiet. I made my way down the stairs to the kitchen, Kyle just behind me. As I was hastily making a sandwich he spoke.
"Sleep well?"
"Yeah. I woke up to find Sam had snuck into my room last night." I couldn't keep the smirk from my face. I knew Kyle would tease him about it. "Anyway, I've gotta go, running late." Shoving my lunch into my bag.
"I can drive you." Kyle offered.
"No it's fine, I like the walk and we don't want Sam freaking out if he wakes up in an empty house. He's just a giant teddy bear isn't he?"
"Shhh, don't tell anyone, you'll ruin his reputation." He was smirking at me.
"See you late Kyle." I said half exasperated and half amused.
When I got to the school gates William was already there, waiting for me to one side, playing on his phone. He grinned like the cat that got the cream when he saw me.
"So?" He asked, a smirk plastered across his lips.
"So what?"
"How was last night with Sam?"
"We got home, he had work to finish and I had homework to do. I showered and went to bed early."
"Is that it?" He sounded disappointed.
"That's it. Can I ask you something?"
"Sure, shoot."
"You have a mate right?"
"Yeah, Cara. I think you two would be friends."
"Could you introduce us? I'm new to the whole having a mate thing and don't have anyone to talk to about it. Kyle said he could ask Sam's mum, but I'd rather talk with someone my own age."
"Yeah, sure. Who's Kyle?"
"Sam's Beta. We used to play as kids, though he's kind of like a big brother to me."
"I should probably know that already. Dad's started talking about preparing me for taking over. Anyway, I'll talk to Cara. I'm hopefully seeing her this weekend, her last exam is next week. Maybe the weekend after you two could meet in town."
"Thanks William, got to dash to class, see you later."

She disappeared into the crowed of students in the corridor. She always seemed to be rushing around. How may subjects was she taking? I shook my head before making my way to the library to finish off my Politics homework in my free period. I plugged in my earbuds to drown out the noise surrounding me as I sat down. The library itself was quiet but I could hear the teachers teaching in the surrounding classrooms. One of the downsides of having super natural hearing in the modern world.

The lunch bell rang and I made my way to my usual spot under the Silver Birch tree, only to find William was already sat there, leaning against the trunk, eyes closed, legs outstretched and an empty sandwich packet on the ground next to him. He looked peaceful. I cleared my throat loudly and tapped the bottom of one of his Vans. He woke with a start.
"Jeez Emily! Give me a heart attack why don't you." He said rubbing his eyes.
"Thought you would have heard me coming, what with the super hearing and all."
"I had a free period after my Politics lesson, so decided to have a nap."
"Well, you're in my spot."
"Fine, I'll move over. Might lie down actually." He said while scooting over.
"You do that William. How's the Maths going?" I pulled out my sandwich and sat down.
"Yeah, much better, thanks for your help yesterday. At least now it's only revision before the exams at the end of the week and next week."
We fell into a comfortable silence as I ate my sandwich and William lay down on the soft grass. Once I'd finished my lunch I pulled my sketch book out of my bag along with my pencils. I could hear William's gentle breathing, he'd fallen asleep again. I decided to sketch him.
Just as I finished sketching him the bell rang and he woke up. I quickly closed my sketch book and put away my pencils, shoving both back into my backpack.
"What have you got now?" William asked as we got up, making our way towards the building.
"Art, it's on the top floor so I'd better hurry. I'll see you later." I ran off towards the building leaving William outside. I climbed the stairs two at a time and arrived at the art classroom out of breath.

Emily ran off leaving me outside. I had to go see my P.E teacher to do the physical part of my exam. I quickly changed into my sport kit; some football shorts and an old t-shirt and made my way to the sports hall. The other guys from my class were already doing the exam drills.
"You're late Richardson." Yelled the teacher.
"Sorry sir, I got lost again." It wasn't true but he doesn't know that.
"Ten laps of the hall, then join everyone else."
"Yes sir." I started my laps, pacing myself so I din't raise any suspicions. I paused halfway through to pretend to catch my breath and when I was finished I joined the rest of the class while fake panting. Everyone took a quick break to grab some water. The exam drills weren't that difficult for me, what was hard was hiding my nonhuman stamina, speed, strength and flexibility.
Forty five minutes later we were finished. I had a really quick shower and chucked on my clothes before heading to the top floor to find the art classroom. I couldn't pick up Emily's scent due to all the other scents which were fresh and going all over the place but I did find her after a few minutes. She was alone in the room, her back to the door, headphones on, paintbrush in hand working on a large canvas. I leant against the door frame watching her put paint to canvas, listening to her hum along to her music. The picture was a grey wolf howling into the night sky. She turned around after a while and spotted me watching her. She slid her headphones to her neck, getting paint in her hair.
"How long have you been there?" She asked.
"About fifteen minutes." I moved into the room and sat on a nearby table.
"Oh. Well I'm just finishing up for the day. It has to dry overnight before I can carry on."
"It's good, really good."
"Thanks." She put her pallet down and brushed her hair away from her face, smearing paints across her cheek and forehead.
I smiled and sat quietly thinking while she bustled about cleaning her palette and brushes and moving her painting to a corner behind the teachers desk. She grabbed her backpack and headed towards the door. I followed her out.

We made our way out of the building without speaking. William seemed to be deep in thought and I didn't want to disturb him. We got to the school gates where he broke the silence.
"I'll see you tomorrow Emily. Get home safe and have a good evening."
"You too William, bye." He made his way into town and I went in the opposite direction, out of town.
Walking up the driveway towards the house I spotted Sam sat on the front steps, it appeared as though he was on the phone. I walked up to him quietly and squeezed his shoulder as I walked past him into the house. He looked up and smiled at me, holding my hand in place. He put his hand over the microphone and spoke.
"You might want to go take a shower Princess."
"Why?"
"You've been painting haven't you?"
"Yeah, how can you tell?"
He didn't say anything else, just smirked at me as he returned his attention to his phone call. I let out a sigh and walked into the house, ran up the stairs, dumped my backpack by my desk and walked into my bathroom. Looking in the mirror I saw grey and dark blue paint streaked across my face and through my hair. William was going to get it tomorrow. Why didn't he tell me I had paint all over my face? I started the shower, stripped off and jumped in, taking my time washing my hair and scrubbing the paint off my face. I stood under the spray of warm water to relax my tense muscles.
