Chapter 2

960 Words
Year 2003 “Jammie, come on. Don’t be scared.” You were up on the tree in the backyard. This is the first time that James was agreeing to climb up the tree. Before this, he always had an excuse not to climb it. But today, since Taylor wasn’t around to play with him, he got no excuse to give to you. “Just wait, okay. I’m not scared, I was just thinking of something.” He gave another lame excuse this time and you chuckled. “Hurry! You’re gonna miss the sunset.” Almost everyday you would be up in the tree to watch the sunset. You loved to see the sky changing its colors. You looked down below to see James slowly climbing up the tree and you could see him shaking a little and you got worried. “Jammie, it’s okay. Just look at me, don’t look down. You’re doing great.” Your voice somehow made him feel at ease and he quickly sped up his pace and finally he reached the branch where you’re at. “Wow....” That’s the only word that came out from his mouth when he saw the view in front of him. “That’s beautiful. I’ve never see anything like it. I mean I watched sunset before from the beach side, but it’s not the same.” You were happy that James thought the same thing as you that this view was amazing. “How you’d know about this? Is this where you’re at, everytime you disappear while we’re playing?” James was looking at you curious. “Well, I found this place where one day I was so upset with Tay and I just need somewhere to hide. I know that he would easily found me if I’m hiding at the closet or underneath a table, so I climbed myself up to this tree and this is what I found.” You’re still looking at the view, where James was looking at you instead. Since you were a baby, he always like to be close to you. He felt the need to protect you and he also like to look into your face. He found that your face was cute and pretty. Since he didn’t have any sister of his own, he treated you as his own sister. He was very excited to know that you would be in elementary school together with him and Taylor this coming school year. He couldn’t wait to show you around the school areas and places that you could hang out together. Basically, he felt ecstatic to have you in the same school. “Maggie.......Jammie.....where are you guys?” You both were looking at each other while holding your laugh because you didn’t want Taylor to know where you’re at. So the both of you kept silence for awhile until you didn’t hear his voice calling your names anymore. “Let’s go down before he shouts our name all across the hallway looking for us.” James chuckled and knew what you meant. Taylor could be very obnoxious about certain things. “Mmm.....Maggie” James was looking down from the tree and suddenly he scared to go down, more to he didn’t know how. He feared that he could fall down from the tree and he didn’t want that to happen especially not in front of Maggie. “What’s wrong?” You were confused since you couldn’t see his face at this time. You tried to scoot over along the branch and you tried to reach the branch across from you but you slip a little and James saw that and he quickly grabbed your arm. “Are you okay? Don’t scare me like that.” James was half yelling because it took him by surprise of what was happening before. “Jeez.....I’m fine, Jammie. Relax.” You rolled your eyes but James saw that. “Hey, don’t roll your eyes to me. You know that I’m older than you, right?” “So, what if I like to do that to you, rolling my eyes at you. What you’re gonna do about it?” You tried to tease him at this time. “Well, you’ll see little baby....” But before he could finish his sentence you cut him off. “Who you said little baby to? I’m not little baby anymore. You’re the one that like a baby with your chubby cheeks.” You teased him again because you knew that he didn’t like people to mention about his cheeks. Not that his cheeks were ugly, actually it’s quite adorable, but he didn’t like it since he wanted people to look at him as a boy, he’s eight years old now. He’s not a baby anymore, but he couldn’t help it that he still had those little chubby cheeks. “Come on, let’s hurry up. We need to go down before it’s getting dark in here.” One thing that James knew about you that you were always scared easily in dark places. So, he tried to go down as fast as he could with his shaking legs and all. In the end both of you managed to get down from the tree and quickly ran inside the house to find Taylor. “Please, keep that place a secret.” You plead to James with a puppy eyes. “I will as long as that place can be our secret place, not just you.” You were thinking for awhile since you actually wanted to have that place to yourself, but since it’s James that’s going to share that place with, you didn’t mind at all. “Okay, let’s pinky swear to that and seal it. Not even Tay can know about it.” You were holding out your pinky and so did James. Starting from that day, the place up in that tree became your favorite place along with him. The place where it bear witness of everything that would happen in your life because you would always run to there when you felt excited, happy, sad and needed to vent off or just to be at peace.
