This wasn't happening to me.
That's what I felt when Grandpa put a beautiful diamond necklace on my neck, my fluffy pink dress's V-shaped neckline accentuating its sparkling beauty.
"It was your Grandma's," he said. "While most of Grandma's jewelry is in the bank safe I transferred to you, I kept the magical ones at home. You never know what our government's latest harebrained idea will be."
Magical? I looked at the pretty necklace with new respect. Diamonds are good crystals for magic, although their price makes them impractical for most uses.
"It protects its wearer against mental magic," Grandpa said.
That would be handy… But then, them being diamonds, it's not like I could use the necklace daily.
So a fancy, expensive luxury. A waste of money.
