I looked at Jack's face, noticing a glint (tears?) in his eyes. "What happened?" I asked. As he told me everything, I wondered why I hadn't heard of this phase before. While Caerland is full of dark arall, there are few dark mages in Crow Hill. Powerful mages have no reason to live there, in the back of the woods. Crow Hill may be the biggest mining town in the North West of Caerland, but it still is a dark, cold, and small place.
