Beyond the Pack

Chapter 8

Kendrick’s P.O.V.

Shit it’s her birthday, and she just turned 18. Of course she’s overwhelmed, her life is completely changing. Normally it is common for mated werewolves to move in together soon after they find each other. Mostly it’s because mated werewolves can’t stand to be away from each other, but I don’t want to freak her out or overwhelm her even more than she is. 

After we talked for a little bit more outside, it was starting to get late and cold. Since we were still in the Triad, we were both a ways from each of our packs. She told me that she’s apart of the Indigo Valley Pack, and a little about her family. I offered to drop her off at her house, which she accepted. I mind-linked Geo and caught him up on what was happening. He understood and said he was happy for me and not to worry because he’ll shift into his wolf and run home.

Once we got into the car, I let her tell the driver where her house was. I was happy that she let me drive her home this gave me a little more time with her tonight to come up with a plan. I wanted to spend as much time with her as possible, but since I am the Alpha of the Emerald Lake Pack, I can’t leave whenever I want to go hang out with her.

Just be upfront and tell her you want her to move in with you. I don’t want her that far away from me. I need her close. We need to protect her.

‘Okay yes I understand you want her, trust me Samson I want her living with me too. But I need to be delicate. I don’t want to ruin this. We finally have her.’

Samson needs to calm down. I understand why he’s so protective of her, but I can’t think properly if he keeps acting like that. He is right about being upfront with her though. I need to say something.

“Mae, I’m going to be honest with you.” She looked up at me with a slight confusion on her face. “I want to get to know you better, but this is going to be hard because I am going to be sworn in officially as Alpha of the Emerald Pack tomorrow evening. As you know, I am not going to be able to leave my pack as much as others do, so visiting you will be hard.”

She listens to me very intently and without skipping a beat she adds, “First of all congratulations on officially becoming alpha, I know you must be excited. Now about visiting…” She pauses after she says this. I don’t know why but I was so nervous to hear what she had to say. “I of course want to continue to get to know you more too, but I am not sure what to do.”

My heart sank. I tried to hide my disappointment but she obviously saw right through it. Why does this have to be so hard?

Finally I can’t keep Samson suppressed any longer, he’s now in control of me. He doesn’t shift because we have not mated yet and he won’t be able to communicate with her via mind-link, “I can’t lose you. I’ve been waiting and searching for you for four years. I am not going to let you go.”

I finally am able to gain control of him again, but what he said was already out there. ‘Great I completely scared her now.’ I thought to myself.

But to my surprise, when I look back over to her she was completely calm. She scooted over closer to me and put her hand on my hand. That instantly made me flinch because her touch was incredible. All she had to do was touch me and I was like a little pup again.

She says to me, “I see that I have met your wolf. What is his name?”

Mae might be only 18, but she is quite smart and must have some type of training to pick up on that. Still completely stunned by her composure I reply, “Samson. He’s a somewhat possessive and already very fond of you. I am sorry for his outburst and not being able to keep him suppressed.”

She waves her hand telling me that apology was not needed, “Well it’s a pleasure to meet you Samson. My wolf’s name is Grey and she is very excited to meet you as well.” She is something.

Samson was thrilled. He was howling in my head. He was acting like a happy puppy. I chuckle at him.

“What’s so funny?” Mae asks me.

“I have never seen him so happy. He’s literally howling he’s so happy.” She chuckles and blushes slightly again. I grip her hand a little harder and reply, “Thank you for that.” She just nods her head. We are still holding hands when we pull up to her house.

As much as I enjoyed that car ride with her, we still didn’t know what to do about each other yet. I get out of the car and open the door for her. As we walk to her door, I ask, “So how did you know that Samson was in control and not me?”

“Well I am training to be a warrior for my pack…” That explains her strong body. “And I don’t know it is just something that I’ve picked up on I guess. I’ve been training with many older werewolves over the years and whenever they get defensive or like they are going to lose, they smart off like that. Your eye color also changed slightly. It went from the brighter green to a darker green.

Wow she is very observant and smart. This is getting harder and harder for me to leave her here. I am becoming more and more attracted to her with everything she says.

“I better be careful then. Don’t want you beating me up for saying the wrong thing now that I know you are a warrior.” I tease her. Her and I both knew that it was practically impossible for anyone not a ranked member to challenge an alpha in strength.

“Well I am not a warrior yet. My parents aren’t and it is very hard in our pack to become something other than what your parents are. It has been my dream to become a warrior for as long as I can remember. My parents used to say that I was practicing different fighting styles as soon as I could walk.” I am mesmerized by the way she talks about becoming a warrior. She is so passionate and hardworking. It is very interesting to me that the Indigo Valley Pack doesn’t encourage other pack members to be other things within the pack. That is something that I am going to have to bring up to my father later.

“So how are you able to train if you pack doesn’t normally allow it?” I ask her, trying to gain some more information about this.

“Well I impressed Coach Cam enough that he convinced Alpha Eric to let me train. He only agreed to it if I also still helped in the kitchen with my mother.”

‘What a dick.’

“I can’t wait for you to show me what you can do?” I say to her. I couldn’t see her face, but I am sure she was smiling and blushing. 

We got to her door a little bit ago, but we were both enjoying each other so much that neither of us wanted to say anything to ruin it.

“Mae, I know we have a lot to figure out, and I don’t want to rush you at all. The timing isn’t great because of my Alpha Ceremony tomorrow, but I want you to know that I will wait as long as you need. I understand that you had a plan before I came into the picture tonight, but know that I will do anything for you because you are my mate. I have been waiting for you my whole life.” She doesn’t say anything, her silver eyes are just staring into mine. I’ve only known Mae for a couple hours, and I crave her. I want to learn everything about her. “Would you do me the honor of being my date for the ceremony tomorrow?” 

She got up on her tip toes and kissed my cheek. As soon as her lips touched my cheek, I felt the most incredible tingling sensation. It was insane. I had to do everything in my power to not just turn my head so her lips touch mine.

“I would love too, Alpha.” She says in my ear. 

God how am I going to wait to see her again until tomorrow evening.
