Beyond the Pack

Chapter 4

Kendrick’s P.O.V. 

Well this is it. I’m finally back. It has been four years since I left. I got back just a few days ago and have been trapped inside the packhouse until my father and mother announce to the pack that I am back. 

“We need to say something to the pack. We can’t just allow him to walk around and let the rumors go rampant.” My mother, Luna Marie, says while pacing. We are all in my father’s office trying to figure out what to do about me.

My father, Alpha Harold, “You know that as soon as we say anything rumors are going to spread no matter what.”

Since my mother is a Luna, she is more in touch with the pack’s feelings. Sometimes this makes her tend to care too much what everyone thinks of us.

“You guys know I am in here, right?” I say that as more of a statement than a question. “Since I am going to be alpha in just a few days, I am going to make the decision.” 

They both look at me proud and annoyed at the same time. They knew I was right. The deal was as soon as I got back it was time to take my father’s place as Alpha of the Emerald Lake Pack. They both mean well they are just not used to having anyone make decisions for them since they are the alpha and luna. 

“You are right son,” my father stands up and walks over to me, “I will let your mother and the rest of the staff prepare the ceremony to make it official.” He then places a hand on my shoulder.

He was proud and happy to have his son back. You could tell in his voice and eyes. It must have been hard to have your son away learning how to be an alpha with your brother-in-law.

I nod my head and stand up to leave, “I wish to tell the pack via mind-link. We do not have to call for some big gathering or anything right now with no notice. I am back and that’s all they need to know. People have to work and the younger members are in school. We will all gather and I can meet my pack officially at the Alpha Ceremony where I can officially re-meet the pack.”

They both nodded in agreement, which I was expecting some rebuttal with my mom, so it was nice when she didn’t. I forgot being alpha in your own pack still has it’s perks. 

“Since today is Friday, I will start preparations to have the ceremony on Sunday. We will call an emergency holiday on Monday so everyone can participate and do not have to worry about going in to work or school,” my mother chimes in.

“Perfect, thanks Mom.” I am about to leave as I stop at the door and turn around to them, “I am planning on going out one last time before I am alpha tomorrow evening. I am going to have some time to bond with my beta and gamma so we need to let everyone know tomorrow morning.”

I am done being trapped in here. I have a lot of things to do before Sunday, and an important one is to get to know my Beta and Gamma. Normally as an alpha you get to pick your beta and gamma, but since I was shipped away a week after turning 18, I hadn’t picked them yet. Luckily, my father’s beta and gamma both have sons that have been learning from them. My father picked them to the next beta and gamma of our pack. 

“Okay son. I will mind-link the pack tomorrow morning.”

I said thank you to both of them, and left. I mind-linked my Beta and Gamma to meet me in my office.

A few moments later, I heard a knock at my office door. “Come in.” I say to them.

And there stood my second and third in command. 

They both come in and the shorter one speaks first, “We are humbled at the opportunity to serve the pack and you. My name is Owen, I am your Beta. And this is Geo he will be your Gamma. 

“Nice to meet you both, and thank you for coming here to meet me.” I say to both of them. I look back to Owen. I must have hung out with him before since we looked close in age. “Owen you look quite familiar.”

“When we were younger we hung out a few times. It must be from that. You graduated a year before me from Triad High.” Owen responded.

“Ahh that’s right of course. So sorry. I have had a lot going on the last four years, but it is glad to see you again.” We shook hands. Owen has brown hair, and was a shorter than Geo and I, probably a little taller than 6 feet tall, but he was strong. You could tell he was probably stronger than everyone but me. 

Then I turned to Geo.

“Alpha it is great to meet you, my name is Geo.” One of them said lowering his head slightly showing dominance. He has sandy-blonde hair, and was almost as tall as me sitting at about 6’2”. Couldn’t have been much older than 18 by his body shape. He looked athletic, but still a little scrawny.

“Pleasure to meet you.” I stuck out my hand and he gave a nice firm handshake, which proved to me he was a lot stronger than he looked. “How old are you Geo?”

He confidently said, “I am 19 years old Alpha. I know I am young, but I have been training for this position as young as I can remember. That and being mated grew me up a bit.” He said the last sentence with a grin.

“Congratulations on finding your mate. How long have you been mated?” I ask.

“We’ve been mated ever since I turned 18. She is a few months older than me, and in a few of my classes. We have been together ever since.”

I am pretty jealous he’s mated. I would love to finally have my mate. Some wolves are just luckier than others to have their mate’s someone they know. 

“Yeah yeah stop bragging in front of me and the Alpha,” Owen chuckles as he shoves Geo.

It’s nice they get along at least.

“Sorry guys. Didn’t mean to brag.” Geo apologizes.

I chuckle too and say, “It’s okay. If I had my mate, I would talk about her all the time.”

With that I then let them know how tomorrow night I would like to spend some more time with them. An alpha is only as good as his Beta and Gamma. They of course agreed.

“Don’t worry I will set it up. I know a couple new places to hit in the Triad.” Geo says.

Both Owen and I roll our eyes. I can tell that I am goin go get along with these two. Tomorrow night is exactly what I need. A little fun before the stress and all the responsibility of the pack falls on me and me alone.
