Elk POV Next Day The doctor said I was well enough to return to classes and my dorm, so I was finally back in my room. I'm so glad you're okay. The whole school has been buzzing about the incident, said Lisa. I smiled because I knew it was true. Some of the students who had been on the trip had left me multiple get-well gifts at the academy infirmary. So, what happened while I was unconscious?,I said. Lisa gave me a brief summary of everything that had happened—how Headmaster Azravel had saved me, how he teleported all of us back to the academy, how calmly he gave orders, and how worried he looked while checking on the injured students. He's a really good headmaster,I said. Lisa chuckled. More than good. He was amazing. But I got a strange vibe whenever he spoke to you or did something that concerned you, said Lisa. You're imagining it.I said. I guess so,said Lisa. I let out a quiet sigh of relief after successfully deflecting Lisa's suspicion. Suddenly, Lisa started bouncing excitedly as if she had remembered something important. Oh! While you were unconscious in the Headmaster's arms…,said Lisa. My eyes widened as I waited for her to finish. I tried to take you from him, but you were practically clinging to him and whimpering. You refused to let go,said Lisa. Wait... what?!.,I said. I was completely stunned by my own actions. My face immediately turned bright red with embarrassment. Lisa chuckled as she poked my cheek. Are you embarrassed now? she teased. Don't tease me! Who else saw?,I said. Just Cain, said Lisa. I groaned. That jerk is never going to let me live this down. Wait... where was Cain? I turned toward Lisa. As if she could read my mind, she answered before I even asked. He has a big research project with one of the professors, so he'll be busy for a while, said Lisa. I nodded. I hope he still remembers us,I said. Yeah. He owes us big time. Besides, he visited you in the infirmary, said Lisa. I smiled gratefully. Lisa suddenly leaned closer. So... did you feel the Headmaster's abs? she whispered teasingly. I threw my pillow at her. It hit her square in the face. I burst into laughter at Lisa's stunned expression. A second later, she started laughing too. Our laughter filled the room before it slowly faded. I'm going to take a shower. I still smell like infirmary herbs and medicine,I said. Lisa nodded. I grabbed a towel and a change of clothes before heading into the bathroom. I gently closed the door behind me. Turning on the faucet, the sound of running water echoed throughout the bathroom as the tub slowly filled. Nova: "You know they're never going to forget this. They'll tease you mercilessly." She chuckled. "I know. I'm never going to hear the end of it,"I said. Once the tub was full, I turned off the faucet. I removed the clothes I'd been wearing since leaving the infirmary and slowly sank into the warm bath. The soothing water relaxed my tense muscles. My pupils narrowed into slits, and my gills appeared. I let out a long, content sigh. Nova: "This is the life." "You said it,"I said. I submerged myself completely beneath the water and closed my eyes. I breathed slowly, completely relaxed. Elk... Elk... Elk... I could hear someone calling my name. Then I saw her. The mysterious woman from my dreams. Who are you?,I said. My name is Angelique, said Angelique. I quietly repeated her name. Wait... I can hear her this time. Her voice was soft and melodic. Elk, there is danger. The academy, the realms, and all the worlds are in danger, said Angelique. Danger? What danger?,I said. I don't have much time to explain. Find the gemstones before they fall into the wrong hands, said Angelique. Gemstones?,I said. I frowned in confusion. Yes. The gemstones that represent each race... before he finds them, said Angelique. Who is he?,I said. I have to go. Elk, the danger is closer than you think, said Angelique. Knock! Knock! Knock! The loud knocking shattered my dazed state. I jolted upright, gasping as I broke the surface of the water. Droplets ran down my hair and splashed into the tub, creating tiny ripples. I heard Lisa's voice through the bathroom door. Elk, are you okay? You've been in there for a long time, said Lisa. I'm fine! I just fell asleep,I said. I tried to keep my voice steady, but even I could hear the slight tremble in it. Are you sure?,said Lisa. Yeah. I'm fine,I said. I heard her footsteps retreat from the door. I sighed. Nova: "So... I'm guessing whoever caused the monster stampede is connected to the gemstones she mentioned." "Yeah... and whoever did it is really dangerous," I said. I sighed again. Nova: "Find the gemstones." She repeated Angelique's words. “Gemstones”…, I said. I groaned. Where am I even supposed to look? I don't even know what they look like. I let out another sigh. Climbing out of the tub, I dried myself off and changed into my pajamas. Taking a deep breath, I pushed the strange encounter to the back of my mind before opening the bathroom door. Lisa was lying on her bed, quietly reading a book. She looked up as I walked out. Finally!,said Lisa. Sorry,I said sheepishly. She simply sighed. I walked over to my bed and sat down, lost in thought. What's on your mind?,said Lisa. Nothing important, I said. Lisa raised an eyebrow, but I remained silent. It's okay if you don't want to tell me. Just know I'm here for you, said Lisa. She smiled warmly. Thank you,I said. I returned her smile. A warm feeling spread through my chest. I'm so lucky to have a friend like her. I lay back on my bed and stared at the ceiling. No matter how hard I tried, my mind kept replaying Angelique's warning. The danger is closer than you think.
