Azravel's POV I was inhaling her scent when a sudden force pushed me back. I stumbled a few steps. Elk's voice echoed, "S-Sorry! I didn't mean to. I... I... I have to go." She sounded scared and panicked, her words unfocused as she stammered. She didn't even look at me. Her head remained lowered, and before I could even reach out to touch her, she had already dashed away, leaving me standing there in a stupor. I sighed. Azravel murmured, "The brightest stones are always the hardest to obtain... Little Ruby." Elk's POV I burst into my dorm room, startling Lisa, who had been reading peacefully. Lisa shouted, WHAT THE HELL! Are you good? My eyes had already returned to normal, but my chest was rising and falling rapidly as if I had just run an entire marathon. I nodded. Lisa frowned. Girl, you're acting like you've seen a ghost. Sorry, I said. Natalia locked me in the classroom. Luckily, someone let me out. So I had to run because I didn't want you worrying about why I was so late. A lie by omission. Yes, she had locked me in the classroom, but that wasn't the real reason I was running. Lisa scoffed. That b***h. I should've known. At least you're okay. She patted my shoulder. Yeah,I replied. I'm going to bed early. I need some sleep after that. Sure. I changed into my pajamas—a tank top and shorts—finished my skincare routine, brushed my teeth, and climbed into bed. Sleep didn't come easily. My thoughts kept drifting back to him. It didn't help that Nova wouldn't stop yapping about how amazing he was. Ugh... I groaned. Eventually, sleep finally claimed me. A Few Days Later Azravel's POV Ever since the incident in the classroom a few days ago, I had been restless. Her frightened, stammering voice replayed over and over in my mind. Did I do something wrong? No... at least I couldn't think of anything. She had been avoiding me completely. She took the long route to class just to avoid passing my office, and the moment class ended, she went straight back to her dorm. It irritated me. Every instinct within me screamed to claim her... protect her... I cut the thought short with a sigh. Elk's POV Ever since the classroom incident, I'd been avoiding him. My routine was simple: attend class, head straight back to the dorms, and occasionally enjoy the smug look on my face whenever Natalia glared at me. Azravel had punished her by making her clean the girls' bathrooms for an entire week. It wasn't a harsh punishment, but socially, it was humiliating enough. Natalia kept glaring daggers at me. Lisa smirked. Serves her right. I chuckled. Yeah. Come on, let's go. We have class. I deliberately took the long route just to avoid passing Azravel's office. Lisa didn't notice. She was too busy chatting excitedly about some upcoming party. I barely listened. We entered the Combat Arena, where Professor Glimmeria's Weapon Mastery and Combat class was being held. Alright, students, settle down, Professor Glimmeria said.I'll take roll call, then class will begin. A few minutes later, she finished attendance and began explaining each species' fighting style. Vampires use blood weapons, allowing them to shape their own blood into weapons. Wolves typically fight using their sharp claws. Sirens use aqua weaponry, manipulating water into deadly weapons. Spirits wield soul weapons. Their weapons are intangible and cannot be touched unless the spirit chooses to make them solid. Fairies rarely use weapons, instead relying on nature magic such as vines and trees. And lastly, dragons use flame weaponry, shaping fire into any weapon they desire." She clapped her hands. We'll now have mock battles. The first two teams are: Team A: Elk, Lisa, and Cain. Team B: Natalia, Daisy, and Nate. You have five minutes to get to know your teammates. She then began assigning the remaining students to their own matches. Lisa grinned. Looks like we're teammates. Could this be my lucky day? I rolled my eyes playfully. Yeah, yeah I said. A boy with black hair and crimson eyes walked over. Typical vampire traits. He was fairly handsome. Hey, he said. I'm guessing you two are my teammates. I'm Cain. We all shook hands. I'm Lisa. I'm Elk. Hope we get along, Cain said. Me too. Nova suddenly spoke. Hey... Natalia looks like she's planning something. Stay alert. Hmm. Professor Glimmeria explained the rules. The battles are one-on-one. The team that wins two out of three rounds wins the match. Round One: Cain vs. Nate. Round Two: Lisa vs. Daisy. Round Three: Elk vs. Natalia. Nova groaned. Is our luck just terrible or what? I sighed. Looks like I'd have to fight Natalia. The first match began. Cain bit his thumb, and a blood sword materialized in his hand. Across from him, Nate created a flaming spear. Both assumed their stances. BEGIN! Professor Glimmeria shouted. The two exchanged fierce blows. The sounds of metal clashing echoed throughout the arena. Neither gained the upper hand. Finally, they both lunged for one last attack. Nate's spear rested against Cain's throat. Cain's sword rested against Nate's. It's a draw! Professor Glimmeria announced. Lisa's eyes sparkled. That was amazing! Yeah, I agreed. That was incredible. We walked over to Cain. Congratulations, Lisa said. You were astounding. Congrats, I added. Even though it was a draw, you were incredible. Cain smiled. Thanks,I said. Professor Glimmeria called out, Next, Lisa versus Daisy. Lisa stretched. Wish me luck. You got this, I said. Cain nodded. The second match began. Lisa wielded twin blood daggers while Daisy summoned two flaming swords. BEGIN! Lisa shot forward like an arrow released from its bow. The two clashed repeatedly, but it quickly became obvious that Lisa had the advantage. She fought like a storm. Daisy managed to catch Lisa off guard for a moment, but Lisa dodged effortlessly before placing one dagger at Daisy's vital point. The winner is Lisa! Cain and I cheered. Lisa smirked. Told you I was a badass. I rolled my eyes. A badass? I remember you crying over a cat video. SHUT UP! She blushed furiously. I laughed. Professor Glimmeria called, Lastly... Elk versus Natalia. I smiled confidently. You guys relax. I'll bring Team A to victory. Hell yeah! Lisa and Cain shouted. The deciding match began. I cut my palm with my nail, and a blood whip manifested in my hand. Natalia formed a flaming sword. She glared at me with pure hatred. Nova snorted. She's probably still angry about her punishment. She deserved it for locking us in the classroom. I silently agreed. BEGIN! My whip lashed forward with a thunderous CRACK! Natalia blocked it. CLANG! She came at me relentlessly, and I matched her attack for attack. The battle became fierce, ferocious, and unyielding. The sounds of CRACK! CLASH! CLANG! echoed across the arena. My whip struck again. This time, Natalia grabbed it and lunged toward me, her flaming sword aimed straight for my throat. Lisa gasped. I quickly used the whip's handle to deflect her sword. CLANG! Natalia froze in surprise. So did everyone else. No one had ever thought of using a whip's handle defensively. Taking advantage of her hesitation, I pivoted and kicked her clean out of the ring. Professor Glimmeria smiled slightly. The winner is Elk. She looked mildly impressed. Lisa and Cain erupted into cheers. "Oh my God!" Lisa shouted. You were amazing! I never would've thought of using a whip's handle like that. You're exaggerating, I said with a chuckle. Cain laughed. She's not exaggerating. You're just too humble. My back was turned to Natalia. I never saw her raise her hand. A blazing fireball shot toward me. Cain's eyes widened. ELK! LOOK OUT!
