Elk POV We turned to the teachers, awaiting instructions. Professor Glimmeria started speaking to students, this is the plan. Fairies—you will provide healing and support magic. Wolves—you will lead the first assault. Spirits—you will create illusions to confuse the monsters. Dragons and Vampires—you are the second assault team. Sirens—you will protect the fairies while they heal and provide support. While Professor Glimmeria explained the plan, Elder Phyrrus stepped aside to contact the headmaster. Azravel Pov I wasn't on school grounds. I was away on a business trip, attending a charity event. I owned several businesses, and the profits helped fund Eclipse Academy. While speaking with some guests, I suddenly received a telepathic call from Elder Phyrrus. Excusing myself, I walked to a quiet corner of the garden. Yes? What is it?,I said. Headmaster, there's a serious situation over here, said Elder Phyrrus. His voice sounded urgent. A sinking feeling settled in my chest. Talk quickly, I said. There's a monster stampede, and the protective barrier won't hold much longer, said Elder Phyrrus. My eyes widened. What? A monster stampede? Elder Phyrrus, are the students alright?, I said. Yes, but we—,said Elder Phyrrus. The telepathic link abruptly cut off. ELDER PHYRRUS! ELDER PHYRRUS! ELDER PHYRRUS!, I shouted in the link. No response. Damn it! I was several hours away. Would I even make it in time? Then I remembered. The freshmen camping trip... That meant... She was there. His heart stopped for a moment. His mate. His everything. Without another second of hesitation, he disappeared at full speed, praying everyone was safe... Especially her. Elk POV Everyone took their positions. I bit my finger, and a crimson blood whip manifested in my hand. The wolves extended their claws. The vampires summoned blood-forged weapons. The dragons ignited blazing flame weapons. The fairies gathered healing magic. The spirits prepared their illusion magic and soul weapon. The sirens summoned weapons of water. Everyone stood ready, waiting for the signal. Then— SHATTER! The protective barrier broke. The wolves shot forward like arrows released from a bow. The fairies and spirits immediately began casting spells while the sirens protected them. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, then slowly opened them. It was the dragons' and vampires' turn. I shot forward like a bullet. My whip cracked through the air. CRACK! Several skeletons shattered instantly. I charged through the horde, my whip dancing like a crimson ribbon. Every monster that crossed my path fell. The whip moved like a living serpent. It wrapped around an orc's neck... SNAP! Its head twisted completely around before its body collapsed. I continued moving like the eye of a hurricane— Calm... Yet deadly. Within seconds, I decapitated twenty goblins. Soon, I found myself standing atop a small mountain of monster corpses. The others were also cutting through the monsters, slowly reducing their overwhelming numbers. Nova: "Just a few more." I smiled. I guess we're finally making a dent. Suddenly... A white snowflake landed on my nose. “What…”,I said. I held out my hand. More snowflakes drifted into my palm. Nova: "Is... that snow?" "Why is it snowing here?" I said. The others noticed as well. It shouldn't be snowing in Area One…,said Professor Glimmeria. She muttered it quietly... But I still heard her. "If it shouldn't snow in Area One... then why is it?"I said. Nova: "I have a bad feeling about this." Then... The ground shook. THUD! THUMP! THUD! Heavy footsteps echoed throughout the forest. My heart filled with dread. Then... It emerged. A creature nearly twelve feet tall. Its arms hung unnaturally low. Its claws were four inches long and thick as knives. Its mouth stretched into a horrifying grin filled with jagged teeth. Massive antlers crowned its head. Lisa's lips trembled. A... a... a Wendigo…,said Lisa. Everyone froze. That's an Area Two monster! What is it doing in Area One?! Its glowing eyes locked onto me. Like a predator staring at its prey. A chill ran down my spine, as though someone had dumped ice water over me. The teachers were too busy protecting the students... And it looked like I had become its chosen target. Nova: "Why is it targeting you?" "I don't know"I said. I tightened my grip on my whip. But it doesn't matter. I slowly walked away from the main battlefield. The Wendigo followed. Nova: "Just like you predicted." I nodded. We stared at one another. Waiting. The Wendigo attacked first. Its massive claw swept toward me. I leaped backward, narrowly dodging it. It lunged again. My whip lashed out. CLASH! The strike knocked its claw away. The Wendigo snarled. Our attacks collided again and again. CLANG! CRACK! CLASH! The battle became intense. Fierce. Relentless. Ferocious. I was beginning to pant. I need to get closer. Taking a deep breath, I transformed my whip into twin crimson blood daggers. Then I charged. Like an arrow released from its bow. The Wendigo swung its claws. I ducked beneath them, jumped onto its arm, and sprinted up it while slashing repeatedly. I climbed toward its neck. The monster screamed in pain. Just as I was about to reach its throat— BAM! Its other claw swatted me away like an insect. The impact knocked the air from my lungs. I flew backward, crashing toward a tree. Suddenly... The necklace around my neck glowed. A purple barrier surrounded me. THUD! I slammed into the tree. The barrier absorbed most of the impact, but I still collapsed to my knees. I coughed into my palm. Looking down... Blood. Nova: "We can't win if we're holding back." "I know..."I said. But if I use my full power, I'll expose my secret. Nova: "You can't keep fighting like this." She was right. I sighed. Then I'll use all of my vampiric powers. Slowly, I stood. I wiped the blood from my hand onto my shorts. Closing my eyes, I took one final deep breath. Activate... Crimson Curse, I said. When I opened my eyes... They glowed like twin crimson gems. A dark aura surrounded my body. I cast another spell over my blades. Corrosion. I looked at the Wendigo. Then... I disappeared. I moved as fast as lightning. The Wendigo slashed toward me. I effortlessly dodged. Jumping onto its arm once again, I sprinted along it, carving deep wounds into its flesh. The monster screamed. With every cut... My blades spread corrosion through its body. At the same time... I absorbed its life force. Its free arm swung at me. I twisted gracefully through the air, avoiding every attack. Like a ballerina. Our battle became a deadly dance. One... That I was winning. Meanwhile... The other students had finally defeated the remaining monsters. Come on! We have to help Elk!, said Lisa. Cain grabbed her arm. We'll only get in her way, said Cain. He pointed toward me. "Look at her." Everyone watched in stunned silence. I moved like still water— Calm. Precise. Calculating. Every movement flowed into the next like a perfectly choreographed dance. A dance of crimson blades. Lisa stared in complete awe. So did everyone else. I looked less like a student... And more like a force of nature. I had no idea Elk was such a skilled fighter, said Professor Glimmeria. Neither did I,said Elder Phyrrus. I saw my opening. Without hesitation... I drove both daggers into the Wendigo's skull. CORRODE!,I shouted. A black aura erupted around the creature. Its body slowly began to decay. Then... It crumbled into dust. Silence fell. I let out a tired breath. Finally… I murmur. I had used too much of my power. My body felt unbearably heavy. My vision blurred. I began falling. ELK!,Lisa shouted. Lisa and Cain rushed toward me. But before either of them could reach me... A pair of strong arms caught me. I looked up weakly. Azravel. Azravel…, I murmured. Then everything went dark. Safe in his embrace, surrounded by his familiar scent, I let unconsciousness claim me.
